  • Know Your Horse Episode 1 Segment 1 (English)
    We'll look at physical build, temperament, speed, and skill. You might be surprised by some of the top picks--some horses seem wild and reckless on the outside, but they're actually sweet, reliable horses. I'll be making some videos later on focused solely on certain breeds, where I go into detail about why they're great for different kinds of riders. This video is the first of many in a category called "Top 3 Breeds".

    I was surprised not to see the Morgan horse in top 3 for a beginner.

      Yeah! I definitely debated about including Morgans--they're such sturdy, lovable horses. I'd probably place them near Paint horses on the overall rankings, but I chose Paints over Morgans to include in the video because Paints are such quick learners :)

    Liked the video and the host. Am 55 years of age. Had twenty hrs of riding lessons when 30. Would love to. Should I? Kinda dangerous? My first training horse was a retired dressage horse, Colorado by name. He felt what I thought. If I as much as gently touched him with my finger tips, he moved. I can still smell him. I don't know what it is, but around animals life is whole. 25 years have gone by, he's certainly dead, 18 years old then, but I still remember and miss him.

    Koń wielkopolski are amazing, very smart and very calm horses, but I'm not sure if it might be a little hard to find them (I live in poland and I've found they're very common here but I'm not sure about other countries)

    • @knowyourhorse8128
      @knowyourhorse8128  Před 3 lety +2

      Yeah, they're incredible! I think you're right, they're definitely most common in Poland...I've never heard of them being common elsewhere.

    As a former 4H horse club leader. Arabians are the last horse I would suggest for a beginner. And most Paints are not a lot different than a quarter horse. The only injury to a rider and horse ln my club was an Arabian spooking.

    yes, my arabian is very good at giving lessons, but he is not confined to a stall, and ridden regularly

    As a kid my dad was a harness racing trainer. What do you think of standardbreds?

  • @onyx9917
    @onyx9917 Před rokem

    How about Thoroughbreds? I see them get an bad rep a lot of the time, but the ones I’ve met have been all heart (though the fresh off the track ones are a handful). My first horse is a 5 year old ottb mare… Storm cat lines as a bonus (if you know you know 😂) and she’s great and trustworthy under saddle

    What about friesian horses

    • @knowyourhorse8128
      @knowyourhorse8128  Před 3 lety

      Friesian horses are AMAZING. I think they're absolutely gorgeous, but I've found they're not as common as other horses and tend to be used mainly for dressage or eventing. I've also found that since they can range from 13-17 hands high, a lot of beginners might find them a little tall! :)

    I love Arabians. I had one years ago but im not a rider and he had a bad habit, maybe my fault, of flinging his head back and headbutting me in my forehead, shit hurt after my dumb ass took it a couple times but I learned to sit up strait and shoulders back. I miss my horses.

  • @fishygirl3548
    @fishygirl3548 Před rokem +2

    Having an Arabian as first horse is not a good idea. My one is the most spooky horse I know. I love him, and love Arabians but they should not be on this list

    • @tinest6485
      @tinest6485 Před rokem +2

      Right. Arabians are the most skittish horses, I don't know what she means by saying a bomb could go off and they wouldn't flinch lol
