A guilt free beater as well! I'd cringe/cry messing up a real one. Their is a reason I only bring my expensive EDCs out if such are neck knives: hard to loose. Alway easy to have. Saved me from a real hellish situation 1 time. was a crkt bowie minimalist. Have a special bond with such. Got it for 20-25 bucks, a deal since amazon has em for 35, official website even more.
Feel like a fool when I passed up their M16 which was priced for 19.99. I came back to the store and it was gone. Repeated so for almost half a year. Occasionally have looked to see if Dicks sporting goods ever got it back in. Since 2019... I haven’t seen it.
They curbed gun sales, you cannot buy em where I live. Same principle goes for knives to a lesser degree. Especially since the guy behind the gun counter was who would help you actually get the knife. Zero employees are at the back of the warehouse, they practically don’t know if they exist, Aren’t helpful. Probably doesn’t help my Dick's has a 2/5 on yelp.

I just got 4 mini bug outs and 2 full size bug outs from wish and they are fuckin nice. They are razor sharp great action on all but one mini but that was only because the pivot screw was too tight. They showed up 7 or 8 days after I got them. Can't imagine what an additional 190 bucks would do for me. They were 11 bucks a piece. I got others too, an Osborne and a griptillian and a mini griptillian and they are REALLY solid knives. The bug outs have some flex to the plastic but are razor sharp and I don't care if I drop it, lose it or ruin it. I gave a few away to coworkers. The grips and Osborne are really nice. Especially for 20 a piece! I will say owning these does make me want one or two real ones one day, but they will just sit at home. I don't have money like that yet where I can use and wear out a 200+ dollar knife. Only issue I really have is that two of the boxes, inside them, they stank like mold real bad! Only two out of 10 or so total. Knives were fine though.

It's 440hc, the heat treats are good on about 90% of them. If the heat treat is good 440HC will hold up about 85% edge retention of S30. S30v is a great steel and one of my fav but a good solid 440hc is decent steel and touches up om a strop excellent once you get a good solid bevel on it and likes 19 degrees per side very well. Get you a nice 19 degree convex edge and the edge will hold well and a couple strops on a 1 micron diamond treated strop and your right back to hair whittling... 440hc don't like going below 1 micron so don't run it on a half micron or 0.1 micron diamond treated strop or the edge will roll on you.. Keep it finished on a 3 micron or 1 micron finish and you have a pretty solid beater knife that the edge will do what you need it to and a few swipes on the strop at the end of the day and you always have a razor in your pocket

Its not 440c tho bc China much more likely to use 8cr13mov or 9cr18mov, D2, Chinese steels instead of 440c. 440c is the American equivalent to 9cr.
I would bet its 8cr on the cheap ones and 9cr on the high end ones and D2 in the middle.

    • @BazilW
      @BazilW Před 2 lety +2

This is exactly what I always say and people don't understand. People think that because it cost so little they must cut covers somewhere but that's not always true. The truth is it really didn't cost much to manufacture many products at scale. Benchmade can manufacture a knife at cost for maybe 30 to 50 dollars in raw materials then add a few dollars for labor and packaging materials and then sell it for $400 and we accept that because we don't know the true cost of manufacture. These Chinese clones reveal to us the true cost of manufacture. Of course it costs more to produce here in the US but still the price is hiked up to create maximum profit and the illusion that it is worth that much. That iphone that cost $1000 probably cost$100 - $200 to manufacture at volume. This is just the way it is for all products. People are always looking for reasons why the knife is so inexpensive, the truth is, this mass produced knives and other products should really cost

I wish some affordable Knives were offered. I'm not saying 35 bucks of course, but like 100 bucks. 100-130 for a basic bitch variation would be cool.
They had a pardue going for 100 on their website years ago, feel so bad I didn’t pull the trigger. I really dislike the artificial scarcity they create. ( I know you can get a BM 1 piece dagger for like 130 bucks but most would like something more.)
How many of us beg for a rerelease of the Model 42? I'd actually consider 400 bucks like it once was, (but I'm sure it would cost more because of "special anniversary "limited" run custom swag, gucci supreme ball bearings.")
Only Bali offered on their website is one which isn’t what most want and is 200 bucks more than the 42.
(I'm gonna buy a Kershaw lucha or Boker Plus Large Bali, 130 bucks vs 90 bucks. Appreciate advice, help :3)
The old website I eagle eyed as a 12 y/o was so superior to the "modern" one we have currently. The UI is worse. Far less product diversity. The Model 42 was my grail blade as a kid, over a decade ago. While 400 seems wild when I could get 2 Microtechs in place of such ( I believe Microtech has superior quality control compared to BM, or so I hear. How Micros are the same as always while BMs have dropped quality wise while keeping a cool kid club price tag.

Honestly in that 2 month wait time you should be able to figure out a way to save some money and buy the real thing, I think you’ll have a much better experience with the real deal, these fakes are tarnishing benchmades name because not everyone realizes there fakes

Could spend a month saving up the extra cash to buy the real thing and you'll have a great knife + make a CEO happy. Or wait a month and get 4 great knives and still have enough left over to take the women out to dinner. But its always great to support American companies when you can. The problem is foreign companies have such a big lead over the US counterparts.

There are clones yea and I have met some just as good but I won’t agree with you on this one. You get what you pay for but then again I don’t agree with benchmades price on bugouts.

That iphone that cost $1000 probably cost $100 - $200 to manufacture at volume. This is just the way it is for all products. People are always looking for reasons why the knife is so inexpensive, the truth is, this is what mass produced knives and other products actually cost. Not what we think they should cost

I’ve bought real Microtecs and Benchmades and these knockoffs from DHgate are pretty close replicas. You would have to know the knives very well to tell the difference. The latest I bought a clone Combat Troodon and everyone thinks I spent 1,300 on this thing it’s that close to the original.

The really great thing about these fakes, (aside from having really cool pot-metal blades, and being made with slave labor.) is the fact that if anything goe’s wrong with it, you can just send it to the Chinese Benchmade factory, and they will make everything OK. But really, what could go wrong when we all know the Chinese people’s reputation for quality and workmanship?
