I have just won an auction for many German stamps I didn’t have yet on Catawiki for 37 euros (excluding shipping and the fee you pay Catawiki) It also includes some covers, which I’m also excited for. I don’t think it’ll have any really valuable stamps (otherwise more people would’ve bid on it) but it was certainly a steal for me as now I’ll be completing many of the more common German empire sets.

Saar was a region of Germany that was administered by France after WW I. It was returned to German authority in 1935.

Inflation stamps are worth more used than mint - mint most go for less than a dollar.......because there were so many of them......

many of the early copies u have could be different printings as well as sets. the perfs and wtrmrks will determine which sets they belong to.some are highly collectible but most are common unless u go for post mark collecting

I've been a collector of many things over the last 30 yrs. I'll be honest, all those stamps are even more common than the junk wax sports card era. They printed far more stamps than baseball cards if that tells you anything, man. If you like stamps, cool. But don't collect thinking you're going to hit it big. You have a better chance of winning the lottery, ok? Hope this helps

I am having a horrible time trying to figure out my German stamps. I bought a worldwide collection and have no idea what I am looking at, I am totally a U.S collector but couldn't pass up the deal on this book I have. Thanks for making your videos they have helped me from my start about a year ago.

Thanks for the heads up! Yeah German stamps can be weird to me because they can be more valuable when they are used opposed to when they are mint!

@@mallardstamps Yeah people like to trace them back to the exact date, and where they where send from , the ones with full stamps and certain towns/citie's are very collectible, and have high value.

The 2.50 Mark stamps (Michel cat. nr. 115) are not worth between 30-50 (€??).
There are 6 color variations of which one is rare and goes for 250 € used. The rest go between 3 and 17 €.
The overprint at 4:50 goes mint for 8 €, unused for 2.60 € and used for 110 €(!!).
I could really advice you to get yourself the Michel special catalogue because there are a lot of stamps which in your book are in the wrong place.
And with a lot of these German stamps take care of watermarks.
      They deside if a stamp is worth 1 € or 1000 € !!!

@@robinred1851 Those prices you give are catalogue prices. Real values are about 10-20% of those.

Pardon my ignorance, being a relative newbie, why so many copies of the same stamp?

    • @mallardstamps
      @mallardstamps  Před 3 lety

As I go through big collections I organize them and sometimes I find a lot of the same stamp! It’s not that I really like a particular stamp it’s just random!

Hindenburg stamps are worth under a dollar as well......they are very common, the ones with the black boarder were issued when Hindenburg died. They are not worth much either unfortunately.

intresting..but what a shame when you just stack them up.
Rater then check out the dates and places they have been cancelled. Found one on my birthday Europe has the day first and then the months . ( 1889 ) ok not my birthyear !
Also the town had changed its name and belongs to Poland now
Callies = Kalies . Several such city can be found like Strassburg ( German) on the west side of the river Rein . Now it is French ( Elsass)
Strassbourg. Or Koenigsberg is still in Russian hands ( Kalingrad!)
Much can be learned about such stamps and not only be greedy and hope they fetch lots of money ( mostly do not 😉)

The "20 Tausend on 200" double print seems interesting but unfortunately is not. The bigger 20 is the original print, the smaller 20 is a fake-print. This must somebody have done privately. The Michel catalogue also says nothing about it.
With the Zeppelin stamps be carefull, here exist an awful lot of fakes.
I could really help you to take a look which stamps are worth something but I guess you are from England or so, so you are just to far away.
