Good good tool but can be dangerous be careful around those Banks until you get really used to it. I remember my daddy cutting down hay with one of those and also mowing around the pond and the ditch Banks on the way in and out the lane. That would make some nice hay for you.

As a retired farmer/ diesel mechanic I can relate to rebuilding things. I sold the farm and bought a thirty year old home on a couple of acres and the estate. Old house, old lawn tractor, old rototiller and the list of work goes on. But I'm thankful at my age I can stay busy and active as I believe I have a few years on you. And I'm impressed with the old FARMALL CUB. At one time I had a FARMALL H that you started it on gas and after it warmed up you switched it over to kerosene. The old girl was built in 1943 the year I was born and she still doing work on the farm in the early 90s.

I feel your pain with buying used implements. My son and I went to a big auction in Michigan last weekend. He bought 2 cultivator sets, 2 side dresser sets, a big crate of side dresser parts and an under belly disc. He has a super a and I have a super av. The under belly disc ended up being for a cub as far as we can tell. I thought about you right away but he says “ I guess I’ll have to buy a cub now”. 😂

Yea, once you get a new cutting bar, it will make a world of difference. Growing up in the 60's on our farm we had a farmall cub and my Dad used it for mowing hay for our horses. I did most of the mowing with it and talk about having a great time, whew I loved that old tractor and watching the hay fall as the sickle bar layed it over so easily. Spent many many hours on that machine and loved every minute of it. The only caveat was waiting till it was dry enough to cut, which meant usually starting after noon, of course it was hotter then, but when you're having fun it did not matter, mow till sundown and call it a day.

Mr Danny I live in southeastern NC and about 4 miles from me is a old equipment/junkyard and I didn't realize until last week just how many things "farmall" there are on that yard. I'm going to be going back through there this weekend and if they're open I'm going to stop in and get their best contact information and do my best to get it to you. I don't know if it will be of any value personally to you but just in case I know it won't hurt and the possibility of having another resource is worth it. In my opinion anyway. I am so enjoying the progress you are sharing with not only having a great working tractor but you are well on the way of having a new working system in place for the betterment of the homesteading experience and life! Much love to you and Mrs. Wanda. I hope y'all have a great weekend ahead and God bless.

Just learned about your channel from Kevin at Living Traditions Hmstd. This is a great video and would have been an encouragement to me back in the mid 90's when I was buying old equipment to use with my Case VAC. I bought a 3pt. 7' Ford sickle mower that was in pretty good shape but I had to learn how to make it cut to its full capability. For the next 11or12 yrs, that rig and I cut lots of fescue hay. Wife and I square baled it and hauled it mostly ourselves those yrs. until about 2007, I bought a round baler. Keeping the sections sharp is just part of the equation. You also have to keep the guards adjusted so that there is not too much gap between the bottom gaurd plate and the section. In fact, you actually want to section to rub that plate. I pulled into a new client's place to cut his hay once and he just grinned and shook his head. He said, "that will never cut this hay, it's too thick." I had great satisfaction in having him complement me after a couple of rounds on how well it was cutting. Miss those times. It was not fast, but I could do a lot of thinking and meditating while going round and round a 5, 7, or 10 acre field with that rig. Still have all the old equipment, just sitting and rusting. No one wants stuff like this anymore.

Love the restored tractor! As to the fish, have you considered putting a "bug zapper" on the dock - over the water, with the bottom tray of the bug zapper taken off? That way the zapped bugs fall straight into the water as fresh bugs for the fish (free food!). They do that a lot at the lakes around us. Plus the fish hang around your dock more. Also if they make a polarizing lens for your video camera, it cut the reflections off the water so you can show the fish better.

That pulley system must of cost a whole lot as you could tell you were trying to justify the high cost of it! Don't know if you were trying to convince yourself or us! Lol! Hope you get a whole lot of enjoyment out of it Danny and that it makes it easier on you!

If you are lucky enough to find a used one of those pulleys, they usually sell for no less than $100.

Now you're talking my language Mr Danny! I love this old vintage equipment! You need a circular wood saw mounted on it to saw your firewood, I have a Dearborn to go on my 8n and a homemade saw I plan to do a video on later this fall. Great video, nice work on the sickle bar mower!
