- The Ultimate Enemy is arguably the best Danny Phantom TV movie specials, and also presents one of the greatest Nickelodeon villains to date: Future Danny/Dark Danny/Dan Phantom, an amalgamation of Danny and Vlad Plasmius' ghost halves, an evil force that decimates most of the world, leaving Amity Park protected from the outside world. Between his arsenal of abilities, like the iconic ghostly wail, dark origins and great meaning behind the character, let's gush about this villain in the name of Halloween!

It’s funny how this whole Ultimate Enemy is also a representation of how bad standardized tests are
They are of the devil, aren't they?
Can you blame Danny for cheating? Yeah ghost powers may be cheating but the system cheated him a long time ago.
They are the true evil
@@Samrules888 So True
Yeah idk how this show didnt last more than 3 years then again it was a spoof of dcsome and marvel
Dark Danny has to have the darkest origin story of all of Nickelodeon characters.
Danny’s entire family and friends were killed. He lost everything because of one childish mistake he made. Was forced to move in with a guy that tried to kill him. Was so depressed he wanted to stop feeling, so he had Vlad tear his humanity away so he wouldn’t have to anymore. Only to be burned to death by your ghostly other half.
I mean... DANG
Yes its awesome. Now i need to ask....Was his human half the real him or was the ghost half the real him? Ghost Danny and Human Danny have their own minds when separated so which one has the real Danny's mind?
Or even just two different halves of the same person? I think that when Vlad had taken out his ghost half, he had taken out human Danny's guilt along with it.
@Bloodhound. So the ghost half and human half have different halves of his personality but what about his actual consciousness and awareness?
@Bloodhound. Maybe Ghost Danny has part of his personality but a completely different consciousness and awareness. So basically Danny Phantom might have died as a human and Dark Danny might not be Danny at all.
@Bloodhound. Danny Phantom might not be Danny Fenton even if they have the same memories, personality, and body.
I think the reason why Dark Danny is such a good villain is the fact he kills. He killed Danny, he killed Valerie, you can't really kill ghosts but he literally had the entire Ghost Zone afraid of him. He knows Vlad was still alive but he couldn't be bothered to kill him off. He knew who Clockwork was. The only reason why he even let the cast live is because of his weird perception of time travel.
Basically he was a real threat and a enemy to be taken seriously.
Dude I literally watched this movie 2 days ago and Dark Danny literally explained why he hasn’t killed Vlad.
It’s because he can’t find him. He closed himself off and covered the Ghost Portal entrance with this big af football 😂
Dark Danny also said that once he finds him he’s going too.
Also I feel like everyone is sleeping on the fact that Fright Knight serves Dark Danny. Like Imma need some more context bc damn. But to be fair that was mentioned in the 1st 5 mins of the show and easily forgotten 😭
@Alex Smith. Movie? But im pretty sure i watched it as an episode. Danny Phantom never had any movies as far as i know. Just games and 30 minute episodes.
Dan didn’t kill Valerie. Danny saved her
@@zombiedemon1762 lol the ultimate enemy episode then. I still think of it as a movie it’s like 45 mins?
Actually according to Vlad Danny wanted to get rid of his human emotions, not the ghost powers. He wanted to stop feeling the grief. I wonder if that was an allegory for suicidal thoughts
I think its also an analogy that to stop feeling is to kill the human soul
@DVJFan he tried to get rid of his human half. Stay as just ghost
I was gonna make a joke on how he got his wish but that would be kinda morbid
To be honest, there are some plotholes in Vlads story about Dark Danny.
And I don´t say the writers didn´t think it through, but there are some things which are off about it.
It even starts when Danny comes through the portal. Vlad wasn´t even a single bit suprised about seeing young Danny and he immediately told him what happend.
What if Vlad knew he would come, what if Clockwork talked to him first, what if Vlad did what he can do best, he lied?
@@arrenshepperd6146 Vlad didn’t react with surprise because he thought Danny was Dan. “Come to kick a defenseless old man while he’s down?”
15 years later and i STILL remember the sound of that "ghost wail". damn this show was too good for its time.
Man, I can't believe it's been that long already.
We grow up too fast.
Of all the powers Danny had the ghost wail was the one I wanted more than anything
Dark Danny is the manifestation of heroes losing themselves in power, corruption, and pure evil.
Like how Superman cracked and became the ultimate villain
Hal Jordan is more ultimate, destroying time itself and all.
He's like a superhero's worst nightmare. As a superhero, imagine seeing yourself become worse than even your worst foes.
@Bloodhound. Imagine that your reflection is actually your evil future self telling you that [ YOU ARE ONLY ONE SICK TRAGEDY AWAY FROM TURNING INTO HIM OR HER. ] and every day you look in a mirror you tell your evil future self that will never happen but then it does even after you promise to yourself and everyone else it will never happened. I would love to see that as a cartoon and screw every possible happy ending because too many stories have a happy ending.
I want a story about a hero who stops the ultimate villain but then the villain tells the hero ( You poor little boy. Please don't be a hero. You are only one sick tragedy away from turning into me. I cannot let you turn into me ).
Dark Danny is underrated...
**SEVERELY UNDERRATED!**
With that Majestic Voice!
His appearance is the best episode of Danny Phantom and you cant change my mind

Yes! I feel the same the voice just gives me chills
YES
If Danny phantom had og teen titans energy it would have been even better than it already was, dark danny would have been more amazing
In the early 90s the Titans did do a storyline like this. It was awful.
Danny Vs Raven who would win?
@@kingraplhmativo5178 oooooo
@@kingraplhmativo5178 probably raven, though danny could at least put up a good fight
Nah that would have been awful man.
I heard of a really dark theory once that Future Danny possibly didn't even kill his human half, instead opting to completely take over his mind in order to use his body to blend into crowds more easier to wipe them out from within, explains why when Jazz used the peeler, it literally stripped Danny's body from Future Danny instead of forcing Future Danny into defaulting back into his "ghost form". This really takes on a whole new meaning with Vlad's comment on his human half, "Some things, my boy, are better left unsaid."
oof
@@ahmadnajwan1846 definitely
Makes sense to me
Damn, that's dark...I LOVE IT!!!
But why didn't the human half age too?
Literally
“Either die as a hero or live enough to become the villain”
But with a few and im joking about the few part, but a few twisted and honestly depressing parts
the opposite makes sense too
“Live long enough to see yourself become the villain”
Technically in danny's case, he died a hero, but lived long enough to reject his hero self, and let it become the villain.
The injustice video game.
Dark Danny Phantom
So evil that the Masters of reality commanded a god to to break their rules and destroy him
The observers are masters of reality? I thought they were just ghosts created by Clockwork to help him somehow.
@@zombiedemon1762 It's stated in the movie that The Observers are Clockwork's employers. Whether or not they're Gods of reality isn't stated, though I personally find that to be unlikely.
@SoRandom31. Thanks. Its been too long since the last time i watched Ultimate Enemy.
The most terrifying part of Dark Danny is the monotone he maintains throughout the episode at least Freiza takes joy in his mass slaughters Dark Danny destroyed the world and was bored while doing it it’s a very unique kind of terror to know that he’s going to kill you and everyone you love and your destruction will mean absolutely nothing to him leaving your last thought as Why? an answer we never receive
Facts
Yeah he scares me
I honestly think he would answer because i can whos gonna stop me he kinda gave that vibe off when he came to destroy ammity in the future after he got his wail
@@45alko he likely would answer if anyone survives long enough to ask he just doesn’t care enough to keep secrets when they don’t concern his continued existence which throughout the episode is the only thing he does seem to care about
Throughout the episode Dark Danny muses to himself that he SHOULD being feeing things. He should be nostalgic over seeing Sam and Tucker again but he can't summon up any feelings for them except in what he calls his "Weaker moments". He notes that he probably should treat Vallarie's defeat as special considering the history they share but says "I don't work that way.” I think he just CAN'T feel anything or at the very least he only has shreds of feelings after loosing his humanity. Ghosts have obsessions and his creation came about from Danny wanting his grief to go away so that lead to his obsession being to purge himself of feelings and empathy. If so than the things he does are to test that because literal murder is definitely something his original self would have feelings about
Also maybe he didn't actually KILL his original human self, but essentially LOBOTOMIZED him very graphically then possessed his brainless corpse. *Lobotomized in a way where his vital brain functions would still well function.*
This would then explain why he was able to turn into a younger version of danny, cause his ghostly form was keeping said corpse suspended. And that the fenton peeler quite literally peeled away the corpse.
That's really disturbing, but awesome way of explaining that
I was almost hoping you were exaggerating, but I just saw a moment clip near the end of the video, where Dan Phantom actually leaves his younger human body to go commit whatever mischief he was doing there. Making it, omg damn you’re right.
Damn, that's messed up and makes perfect sense. I can see why that would be 'better left unsaid'.
And that also explains why he grows up despite him being full ghost
@@Norinia pretty sure that was Dark Danny just making g one of his clones in an invisible fodm to go take care of Jas. But who knows
Funny enough, The Ultimate Enemy wasn't written by Hartman alone while on the other side Phantom Planet was written by only Hartman.

Now that Dark Danny exists outside of time, he doesn't need to hold back anymore. If he DID come back, he'd be damn near unstoppable.
Yes and i would love to watch it happen. Dark Danny would then become the new main character evil protagonist forever. When Good Danny is killed Dark Danny becomes the new main character.
I wish past vlad met his future self. Would’ve been great character development.
You know what’s makes dark Danny much more scarier is that in the end he still exists, he’s still there which means Danny can still become him.
That's freaking haunting..
Don't forget that Dark Danny now exists outside of time, meaning he'll still exist no matter what Danny does.
There is a fan made comic on deviantart where future vlad lives with past vlad
@@twilightsparklevlogs2747 ...you could say Danny is...haunted.
Bad dum tiss.
There are fanfics were this is the Main theme, Danny's fear to become Dan.
What ultimately makes "The Ultimate Enemy" so great is that it's essentially a metaphor for all the angst and anxieties of a typical teenager. When you're Danny's age, the future _is_ inherently scary and full of uncertainty. Not knowing what your life will be like as an adult, not knowing if you're gonna turn out fine in the end, not even being sure if you'll be able to recognize yourself...
The idea that your adult self might be a completely different person from your current, kid self is _terrifying_ , so much so that this episode portrayed it as turning into a monstrous supervillain that embodies all of your worst traits.
"The Ultimate Enemy" works so well because it connected with its audience on a deep, emotional level.
This series was truly stopped to early and needed more time to evolve and it sucks that will never see how

They need to have human babies that are naturally born with their own ghost powers.
Honestly I use to have nightmares of this short movie. He was so scary as a kid and super cool. I wish we saw more of him he was so cool and that short movie was also left open ended too
It seemed like they were gonna do a return of future danny. I wish the show wasn’t cancelled
Actually it's confirmed that Danny wanted to remove his emotions and removing his ghost half was either an unexpected side effect or Vlad trying to eliminate Phantom once and for all. The heroic Phantom from that one episode separated Danny's PERSONALITY, not his emotions.
yeah I was gonna say the same thing. Dan Phantom even says to Sam and Tucker that if he had even an ounce of Humanity left meeting them again would be nostalgic or heartwarming. while when Danny used the Ghost Catcher it's an even split of all of Danny not a Ghost Version who lacked his Humanity.
The real ultimate enemy is the depression we developed along the way.
I'm depressed just realizing this aired already over 15 years ago when I was still in 5th Grade.

To be fair, the Avatar franchise had some VERY GOOD villains.
True but like he said that series is in a league of its own take that series away and Dark Danny is easily one of the best cartoon villains hands down
I liked the OG dai li in tlab
comparing any other nickelodeon show to avatar is like comparing a Disney channel original movie to john wick. yes, they are essentially both the same thing but the amount of nuance missed in the comparison could fill 17 Olympic sized swimming pools, or approximately one water bottle carried around by a varsity football player.
I really like how the villains in seasons 3 and 4 of Legend of Korra showed the consequences of changes in the world. Zaheer was empowered to act on his beliefs because of how Korra had to defeat Unalaq, and Kuvira filled a power vacuum caused by Zaheer.
But they were Pathetic in power
I have such a huge crush on Dan Phantom. Despite being an evil bastard, I can't help but to admire his confidence and snarkiness. Plus, I love the voice of Eric Roberts! Wish the show would have utilized the character more.
On the other hand, that confidence and snarky attitude are what make him so scary.
No offense, but I think that Future Timmy is more attractive.✔✔✔✔
When Dark Danny is explained in the show and Vlad says
"Something's my boy are better left unsaid. "
Very Dark
@shaquille mccrayThis is why we don't cheat because well get ripped in half and turn into villains
I think dark Danny doesn’t have a final form,he just can morph into whatever he wants, like young Danny, since he doesn’t have a human half that he has to turn into
Exactly. As we know,Danny has the powers of every ghost and there was a ghost without a face in base form that could turn into anything.I think the normal Dark Danny form with the white fire hair is probably the form that is the most close to being his true form.

Considering how Vlad had a habit of going into the ghost Zone finding powerful ghosts to do his bidding and how Dark Dan wasn't stupid to let those things turn on him like Vlad, I'm assuming he's learned some powers from the Ghost Zone Heavy hitters. Like plant manipulation weather manipulation and whatever OP stuff he thought he can wreck the world with
Sounds pretty reasonable. Phantom was just a complete god when it came to his powers.
If the rumors about the Danny phantom revival are true I want Dark Danny to return, I actually want him as the main villain.
He should have red ice. Because his ghost sense is red.
Considering what Butch Hartman(a.k.a Bitch Fartman)has done recently...sad to say, but I'm not so sure Nick would revive DP given Butch's infamy.

yo, let me tell you. The Fanfictions that have Dark Danny/Dan as some kind of antagonist are some of the best I've read! They go into the PTSD that comes with knowing that you're one wrong move from becoming the villain. I personally love when the characters suffer, and so reading about a Danny who's continuing to grow, especially more ghostly, and seeing parallels between him and Dan which causes him to close in on himself are so good!

now, i did not watch danny phantom, but the very idea of the protagonist becoming the antagonist in the future is super cool and should be used more in cartoons. honestly, having a preview of what the protagonist could be, the amazing power he could obtain but also the moral choices and the effect of those choices and powers on said protagonistis just amazing.
I mean TECHNICALLY, Future Danny Phantom is not Danny or even Dan...
Since that ghost KILLED danny.
He was the ghost DNA from Danny Phantom, merging with the ghost DNA from Vlad.
So I personally would have called him Phantom Plasmius. The Merging of the ghost parts from Danny Phantom and Vlad Plasmius, both in name and DNA.
Your absolutely right but the main personality is Danny right down from the way he talks so take that into consideration and the fact that evil Danny constantly calls himself Danny almost like he resents and represses the vlad side entirely he rarely does a single thing vlad would do despite being basically both of them
Lemme correct you, Dan Plasmius
He still hated vlad and would not associate himself with him even in name he just used the power granted by both forms. A clean slate more so but couldnt let go of what he was before hence holding on to apart of his old self. He even liked the idea that people would ne devistated hearing "I was Danny Fenton, see whats happened to me. Despare for I am your end."
It’s crazy how this just came out a few hours ago and I was looking at future Danny videos
Synopsis of Future Danny: "Long ago, Earth and the Phantom Zone lived in harmony. Then everything changed the Fire Danny attacked. Only the past Danny, master of all four Danny elements could stop him. But when the timeline needed him the most, he vanished."
I always thought that Evil Danny had possessed the human half, since he was able to revert to human form when he wanted to. But he was absolutely the ultimate enemy because he was the combined power of both the hero and main villain together and also because he single-handedly wrecked both the human and ghost worlds. Everyone feared this guy.
I can't be sure that Evil Danny just possessed his human self considering that Vlad simply said how some things can't be said or are left unsaid, and Evil Danny himself said he *sacrificed* his human self so, yeah, there's some clues of what he really did.
Now, I know people will say "Duh the GBA game!" But there was a commercial where Dark Danny wanted everyone to call him Dan?
8 Likes so the commercial did exist, right?
@@blazingsonic I don't remember-
I really liked your headcanon-explanation for Danny's "evil" and fusion with Vlad. Perhaps that would explain why their fusion seemed to identify more as Danny than just as a fusion? I mean, Danny's grief, pain, and self-hatred was fresh. Granted, Vlad was able to keep his alive for a solid twenty years, but Danny is younger and arguably more vulnerable and volatile since everybody he cared about just literally went up in flames. Just wondering because it definitely seemed like Dan identified himself more as simply an older Danny rather than a fusion, always referring to himself as such (aside from it just being more dramatic and relevant to the plot). Of course, it could just be that Danny absorbed Vlad rather than a simple 50/50 fusion. I think I remember wondering if that was the case due to Vlad having been unconscious when it happened.
Yeah but still there are things that are kinda off about the whole story, which raise way more questions.
1. As you said, why does Dark Danny identify himself as Danny but not as Vlad. In the show he always calls Danny "me", but when he talks about Vlad he calls him "my idiot cheesehead archenemy". With that he basicly says he has no memories about Vlads live, which doesn´t make much sense.
2. When Danny comes to future Vlads place, Vlad instantly realizes that this is Danny from the past, other then all the others he met. We asumed that the future ghosts realized it, but we can´t tell. Also why is Vlads Portal even open, like he awaited Danny there.
3. But I think the most important question is, why are Clockwork and those Watch-Ghosts only after Danny and not for Vlad too. I mean Vlad is already a villain, it was him who ripped out Dannys Ghosthalf and as we said Dark Danny is a fusion out of Vlad and Danny. Dark Danny can´t be without Vlad.
I'm still triggered by them having that contest to "create the ultimate villain for the movie" and it just had options for cookie cutter villains and then the actual villain was just evil Danny.
Dark Danny, the one that Thanos ripped off. I'm not mixing it up, Dark Danny says the "I'm inevitable" line first.
Who wants a head Canon?
Danny, and I guess Vlad, have a various different powers because of the way he got his powers in the first place.
Form shifting, frost powers, various ectoplasmic abilities, hell even a minor version of technomancy like Technis, it all stems from the whole of the ghost zone being forced threw him.
It could even explain why Danny seems to have more powers than Vlad sometimes.. In him is a piece of many if not every other ghost.
Also sad reminder.... Clockwork's voice actor died a while back :(
I also think why he's the best villain, he actually won. If clockwork didn't step in, Dan would've won
If Clockwork hasn’t stepped in to begin with Dan would have only been a dark thought, a potential.
@@jbcatz5 yeah. Clockwork was simulations the reason for Dan's existence and the reason he didn't come to be. The Observers jumped the gun

That ghostly wail really did give me chills when I was a kid
I think Thanos stole "I'm inevitable" from Future Danny.
In my head the phantom half of danny was a half entity and wanted to be entirely ghost which is why he ripped out the ghost half of vlad. He was then corrupted by the dark energy from plasmius.
I always assumed that the fire powers came from Vlad...
Right. Like if Danny have ice Vlad would be fire. Didn't he also has laser vision? I honestly don't remember its been years.
@@chawaynepollard5623 No vald never had that power.

Dark Danny's voice still does it for me to this day
Crazy cuz i was just thinking of him earlier today
I think a return of Dark Danny would have been interresting considering it is mentioned that he is no longer part of the timeline or Danny's true future self. Keep in mind that Dark Danny never tried to kill younger Danny because it would destroy him as well, but if he did ever make a return he would no longer have to be worried about not killing Danny. So that would make the rematch a lot more intense.
Damn...this was an amazing video!
I loved Dan as a villain so much his design his voice. He just had this super supreme villain aura about him. I liked also no matter how much Danny fought back and resisted Dan was pushing to let things happen essentially making it so inevitably Danny would become him anyway. I always wanted him to return especially with that could he escape ending. If they brought Dan back I would've liked if he became like devils advocate or the devil on Danny's shoulder pushing and putting Danny in situations to sway him to give up on morals and feelings and accept Dan is who he's always meant to become. (But seriously. If that episode had that much more mature explanation of the descent into madness, The Ultimate Enemy would be my favorite DP episode, ever. As it is, it's just good with some unfortunate flaws.)
I really wanted a return of Dark Danny; it would have been an awesome finale. The only things I liked about Phantom Planet was the kiss, the reveal, Danny being recognized as a hero, and Jack being done with Vlad. Also, If there ever is a sequel/reboot, I hope they do it without Butch Hartman and have Steve Marmel instead. I know DP ended due to money issues, but Butch had a tendency of destroying his own shows. Steve Marmel was the reason the show was so great earlier on.
Marmel was a conservative nutter though, and his views heavily tained DP and FOP, particularly with how the show portrayed non-Americans, gender roles, and in the case of Sam, activism. I'd rather Steven Silver who did the original character designs and showran Kim Possible to great success.
I always took it as Danny's Ghost self resented the fact Danny wanted to abandon him. So he took it upon himself to make himself stronger to show that his choice was wrong and when he fused with Vlad's ghost the two ghost who are full of resentment, hate and anger merge together into one being that is full of rage and resentment with Danny Phantom being the dominant personality because he suffered the most tradgey, losing his family and friends and being abandoned by his human half. So in his anger his killed his human self and fell into his madness
The ego, the sarcasm, the sadistic personality he had it all.

Inclusive the box ghost(the most comic of the recurrent villains) have it's moment to be a serious treat, when stole the Pandora's box.
You know something you have to admire about D. Danny is how intelligent he is. Unlike so many other villains throughout fiction he takes the time to deal with every potential threat no matter how minor. Danny he imprisons in the future, Jazz he knocks out several times until the right time came thus pinning her to exploding sauce, and last but not least the fentons and his former friends pinned almost immediately. He loses because of a single belief that his future was set in stone. He didn’t account for the idea that his past could take such a radical shift without interference. He never believed that his past self could change the future by himself.
This whole episode, but especially the "I still exist! That means *you* still turn into *me*!" line imprinted on middle school me in ways that only my therapist is qualified to unpack
I’m FURIOUS that the fire powers wasn’t a thing, HIS HAIR IS FIRE!!!

He does have fire powers during his introduction he produced walls of green fires 🔥 when he broke into the fenton lab
@@stevenelbert8989 I think that may have been more for dramatic effect. Do you have any other examples.
Are we overlooking Future Dannys time powers, where he sent Danny to the future.
I mean, he was already in the future, he just has the ability to open a portal to the Ghost Zone.
...Which is still pretty sick, seeing as he may be the only one to open a portal like that without tech (other than Wulf)
The Recurring villains in the future:
Johnny 13 is wheelchair bound, and Kitty supports him as husband and wife.
Skullker and Technus are fused as one.
The Fright Knight serves Dark Danny, a better master than Pariah Dark.
The Box Ghost is ripped and he has a daughter.
Ember McLain, well let’s just say, the years have not been kind to her.
Whatever happened to Sidney Pointdexter, Desiree, Walker, Nocturne, Penelope Spectra, Bertrand, Youngblood, Princess Dora the Dragon?
Dread Danny, what would've been a cool twist is if they had his evil version remain a constant in the future and everytime Danny gets a new ability or whatever it grows his future self. Essentially building his own ultimate enemy that he can't avoid until the final showdown whilst keeping the trigger to his mental break a secret since everyone who knows what it was is basically dead and the ghost of time can't exactly interfere in any way now can he.
0:04 Been spending most his lives living in a Specter's Paradise.
Ooo his name is *_Dan_* Phantom now, he's so mature and real bro he's gone through hard times
But legit this episode was hella dark
Should have had Future Danny come back for Phantom Planet. Hell of a way to resolve that one; Dan Pnantom is eager to pick up where he left off, but the problem is the whole planet's about to be wiped out. Him included, because there's no way he's stopping that ghost rock.
Crazy, I was binge watching clips from this special earlier today and now The Round Table uploads a video about one of my favorite specials in cartoon history.
I seriously wish the series ended with Future Danny as the final antagonist, whether it be the special being put off until that point or even his return. I also felt like Present Vlad never meeting him was such a missed opportunity. His reaction to his and Danny’s fused ghosts being both that powerful and that evil would’ve been priceless, I’m sure.
Danny phantom needs a reboot edit: this is one of the best specials in history second edit: dan phantom was inevitable
Be careful what you wish for. There’s a chance it would end up similar to the TTG and Powerpuff girls reboots.
"The Phantom" that woulda been my name for him. he gets knocked out of his form by Jazz and reverts to his adult form
Jazz: Danny... is that you
Future Danny: Nah.... I'm just a phantom of what I used to be.
Like he doesn't even have a name anymore he's just called "The Phantom." The spookiest thing I could imagine man
Dasmius Phantom might be cool. Just mix Danny with Plasmius to get Dasmius.
I think Dan phantom is probably the best name. It's a little goofy sounding. But it encapsulates what he is pretty well
I was not expecting that gangster's paradise meme in the beginning and just because I was so caught off guard by it I have to give this video a like. Also Future Danny is just awesome as hell
So I just found out today that this was not the series finale like I’ve thought for over a decade
I always thought Danny Phantom had so much potential. I wish they would’ve just took the show away from Butch Hartman and take it as seriously as they took Avatar, focusing more on lore and characters rather than putting comedy first. Still, Dark Danny was absolutely incredible and I vividly remember watching The Ultimate Enemy every single time it played on tv.
0:05 for that "ghosta's paradise" wail reset button from Dark Danny.
100%! what a great deep dive on Future Danny! THANK YOU for pointing out that it wasnt just 'vlads evil side totally corrupting danny' like the special made it sound, but rather *danny's grief,* coupled with vlad's own hardships and agtagonistic nature, that got us Future Danny. it really was such an amazing season finale! actually dealing with intense things, like real grief, real villiany, real guilt and self loathing; as future danny killed his human half. just. seriously. so different (from most of nick (save 4 avatar)) -- love it!
Since he existed outside of time at the end let’s call him Dark Phantom.
I will say this I would love to see Dark Danny apper in the 5 years later web comic from the ink tank
His hair is on fire, it goes through his nose kinda like steam from a dragon, and Danny’s is through his breath, which represents cold. Cool setup
5:50 this scene right here of Danny be visibly terrified is so raw but also so amazing this show had so much going for it back then
The reason I think that Danny turned out that way when he was ripped in half like that was because, unlike the separation in another episode where the ghost catcher (forget what it's called but believe that is it) splits his ghost and human halves, he is undergoing a surgery where he literally is being ripped apart with half of himself being ripped. It wasn't a clean separation like the one in the above mentioned episode. It could also be that Danny was in a much darker place than he was in that episode. He was feeling powerless, unable to save his friends, and blaming himself, so it could be that the ghost half became all of those emotions unfiltered and sought power to stop it from happening, hence fusing with Vlad's ghost as his first action. This could explain why he became corrupted by Vlad's evil so easily as well as killed his human half, as he blamed himself for everything and sought power so much that the power overwhelmed him easily once he got it. The third theory is that each split will result in different versions of Danny being created. It could be as simple as Danny got lucky on the other split and just got turned into a lazy teenager and a heroic ghost, instead of a weak human and a powerful vengeful ghost.
Also, I think part of the reason Dark Danny never pulled anything else out of his pocket is because he never needed it. Danny pulls out all of these powers in situations where he is FORCED to progress or lose/die. He gains the wail when the future ghosts are about to kill him, he gains his ice powers (easily the best shift in the series in season 3) to combat undergrowth, and even a little bit of weather powers to combat Vortex late in the series. I think it is also due in part to them fusing that they didn't develop new powers. Danny is ever changing as the series progresses, gaining and learning, while Vlad is stagnant, unchanging, stuck in the past. Vlad believes he has full mastery of his powers and is arrogant in maintaining that belief, to the point of ignoring contradicting evidence. It is seen in the special that Dark Danny is arrogant almost to the point of overconfidence, so it is easily likely that the arrogance of Vlad's ghost half in having believed it knows all of its powers and, thus, there aren't anymore, came into Dark Danny as a side effect of their merging, slowing down the rate of progression Danny's powers from his ghost half as a result, thus, Dark Danny learns ghostly wail 10 years later than he was supposed to INSTEAD of Danny learning it 10 years prior to when he should have learned it.
Best name for the fusion : Vlanny
Or Danny +Vlad = Danad or shortened to Dad... DAD!!!
😂😂😂😂
I once found a fan fic were Dan somewhat became a father figure to Danny, after his family kicked him out.
The fic was awesome, if you ignore the typos and grammar errors.
@@NothingOfNoteToSeeHere this got my interest 😂
@@wintercrescent2396 I do not know it's name, only that Dan came into Dannys time and faked himself a new identity. I think he called himself Dante. the last name something flame related. dunno what it was.
@@NothingOfNoteToSeeHere I will search like my life depends on it I wanna read it 😂
i forgot about this series and now have the mighty need to rewatch it
I like you're explanation for why Danny's ghost half became Dan Phantom but while it isn't explained well the show does give a reason for that as well. When Danny was split from his ghost the first time he saw his ghost as the hero part of himself and his human half as the only part of him that could truly relax. So he shoved all his heroic tendencies and self sacrificing behavior into his ghost half while leaving behind the parts of himself that were lazy and unproductive which is why when it split from him it was so gung-ho about being heroic while he lost his ability to care about other people and focus on tasks other than relaxing.
In Ultimate Enemy Danny lost the ability to feel anything but sadness after watching everyone he loved die. To cope he shoved all of his hurt and sorrow into his ghost before begging Vlad to get rid of what he couldn't. Vlad, who had a greater understanding of ghosts but a lesser understanding of Danny thought that ghosts couldn't feel intense emotions like humans could so he tried to remove Danny's ghost half so that at least a part of him could stop hurting. Unfortunately all the pain his human half forced on him caused Dan Phantom to fly into a rage which he directed towards the thing he dispised the most, Vlad Plasmius, Vlad's ghost half. He used the gauntlets to rip out Vlads ghost before attempting to overshadow it as revenge. Which is where the second part comes in.
Vlad is an impure ghost. Due to the way he became a ghost being the first portal accident he was hit with unstable ecto energy which warped his mind and drove him partially insane(while Danny's accident filled him with the stable ecto energy that keeps the portal open). When Danny's ghost half tried to overshadow Plasmius the unstable ecto energy corrupted him and drove his already damaged mind into true insanity, and thus, Dan Phantom was born.
This isn't a perfect theory by far but it functions without breaking the rules set out by the show or contradictions anything(like yours does) and can be improved into something proper. Feel free to comment asking for clarification on parts that don't make sense, adding parts that I missed, or providing helpful criticisms(don't just say 'no' and think that means something). Thanks for reading my wall of text.
TL;DR: Events from cannon do kinda explain Dan Phantom better than the video says they did.
