- Even with maxed out padded armor, a 2-star troll is a tough fight! They hit pretty hard 👊🏼 It also doesn't help if you're fighting a 2-star troll in a tight space, which is what happened when I ran into my first one. Will I survive??

The first troll cave I found had a two star troll. He’s still in that cave to this day.

I think the troll in the beginning is even harder: you have that first bow with a low bow skill, weak arrows, weak food and won't have a chance if you try to block their attacks

i found no boss harder than trolls. Even my wolves die fast :D
Truth
using arrows with the troll at the beginning makes it really easy. just find a open plains and fire away
I always prefer the smaller shield and the chance to parry/stun the target over the tower shield -but in this instance, it worked really well to absorb 98% of damage every time.
Parry is something you learn later in Valheim. Game changer. Just block when you're about to get hit and easy knockback/stun.

I remember first seeing a 2-star troll roaming around in the forest. It was also the very first time I'd seen a troll carrying a tree trunk, so I just unequipped every armor piece I had, activated Eikthyr's power and just booked it in the other direction. lmao

The very first time I saw a troll in the game not knowing they existed I definitely spaghetti legged the fuck outta there and was terrified of the black forest.
@@brodylockwood14 First time in the Black Forest, I was mining some copper when a rock just came flying from behind and nearly gave me a heart attack. Turned around and saw this massive blue half-naked thing and started sprinting into the other direction. Sad thing was, greydwarfs got me as I was exiting the Black Forest. Took me two hours of hunting to get myself some proper food and armor just to muster up the courage to go back there. I still get nervous in the Black Forest even with padded armor. lmao
I laughed when i saw it bc it looked funny but then it hit me… i spawned back half the map away 💀
That uppercut to the troll's gooch after you retreated again was a cheap shot 😭

2 star seekers are terrifying. No way to run, you just gotta go into beast mode and hope you can take them out before anything else shows up
@@ringofasho7721 My first sighting of a 2star seeker was on my portal-less save. I was hiding for the night in a small base I made out of a ribcage when I got antsy and decided to explore a little. I came across a ruin I thought I'd already cleared when a 2star seeker and 2 of his cohorts saw me. I was new enough to the Mistlands I was terrified to encounter anything let alone my first 2star seeker. It came flying at me and I felt like this might be my first death in ages when suddenly it fell short into some water. Recognizing this was a limited time offer I started blasting it with my Dragr Fang. I was mostly ignoring the other two seekers, sidestepping them a bit, but taking a few hits. Ultimately killed the 2star seeker before it fully left the water and managed to clean up the remaining seekers. My heart was racing after that one!
That was fun! I can relate and appreciate with the second-guessing and “calculating risk” part of the video whole-heartedly. That tower shield held up nicely though! Good job!!

I remember my first 2 star troll. I already knew how to fight them well enough since they're virtually identical to common ones, i relied on dodging more than blocking. It still took a bloody long tkme to bring down lol, and i think half the forest got torn down during the encouter, but it was so satisfying after I beat it XD

On my first time walking into the dark forest I found a troll cave thinking it would just be a bigger burial chamber. When I saw my first troll I thought: "Huh.. maybe I can kill him one hit with my flintstone dagger when sneaking up on him..". I ended running back to my tombstone several times.. 🐳
Flint dagger on regular troll while sneak and unnoticed should take away a big chunk of the trolls health though

Good job! I think that Trolls and a mid + late game enemy have the same wind up animation for their attacks, so getting used to parrying their attacks (essentially blocking just before they would hit you) Is a good strategy for not getting dunked on later in game. (Atthough you can't parry w a tower shield, good job otherwise mate!)
@undeadreader23 Funnily enough, this very video is the reason my tower shield has been banished to a storage chest for all eternity lol. The carapace buckler is the shield for me 💪

me who uses silver round shield with fang spear: ha-ha, time for the troll hunt
stamina management is important, with your gear you could permablock it, gotta stop attacking between blocks for a bit to recover stamina :)
I was thinking this too. This is the last thing I see people learn tho, after patterns and terrain.
@cailewendon5541Souls is so damn boring. I can't last long due to sheer boredom and logging off. Never could get into it. My brothers both love the Souls games. I've even watched them play way further than I ever bothered to, and it still just looked boring as hell. To each their own though.

I still think the soldiers are easy. Even a 2 star soldier isn't scary to me unless I'm pinned in a dungeon. Those 2 star regular seekers are scary no matter where you fight em

blackmetal dagger with cancelling: sub 10 solo kill. My first 2* encounter was me and 2 or 3 others with draugr fangs and needle arrows killing it in 5 seconds, but we had high skills and the forest wasn't exactly dense in that place.

Nice fight. You should practice the parry. It will knock him off balance and allow you a few nice shots each time. With the same gear you can treat him to an early retirement!
Bro I just logged in for the first time, exploring and my curiousity lead me to the first black forest exploration, guess what? A troll with 2 stars below it's name, with a basic bow and no armor i keep hitting and running like shit without knowing it was a true beast until i got one shot-ed :D
A lot of preparation needed to took him down using basic bow and basic armor. That was a nice fight tho

I was happily crafting once, and a 2 star troll from the Black Forest wondered into the meadows, sees me and gets aggro. He killed my boars. Rip pigsley and fromage.

That's just brutal you're hitting that guy right in the junk with a spiked mace. Although I found a trick of going into the cave with a bow and arrow fully drawn releasing as soon as you get in and retreating and repeat

Yeah me and my friend came across a 2 star troll on a hillside of the black forest leading into a swamp. An abomination appeared as we were leaving after getting the iron we wanted and we ran to the direction of the troll. My friend was convinced the abomination would win but nope, the troll won. So we just use the guy to kill foes we dont want to deal with now XD
I think the fight wouldve been easier if you used Frostner, that freeze effect does wonders
when i first started playing valheim i didnt know what star levels were. i didnt even know to look for the,. the first troll i ever found was right next to the medows and it was a 2 star troll. i didnt find out until my friend came over and saw me fighting it with my wooden bow and flint spear. and im glad to say, i killed that troll. and made troll armor out of its flesh.

That would be possibly the worst place you could die
Next time, equip your helmet instead of your headlamp. That dvergr circlet gives almost no armor, you'll notice it when he does hit you.

Yeaaaaa I remember my first encounter with a 1 star troll Bow only lmao needless to say, that was a nice 30 minute fight leaving and re-entering the cave for health reasons

did you know that you can solo any troll with any spear and no armor (deer hide is a good start tho).
If its unarmed then:
let him attack and run up to him for 3 hits with the spear, but beware that he can also use the ground slam right after a normal swipe attack, in that case you'd want to back off and let him attack with the swipe again. I would also advise to run back and jump instead of rolling if you're not experienced.
As for the trunk wielding trolls:
Same thing but you get to attack only once or maybe twice if lucky. The attacks are more deadly and have a longer reach, so you can just throw the spear and pick it up when he is finishing the attack animation.
This was my troll hunting guide that also works in Troll Caves.

on a modded server you can even fight 4 and 5 star trolls! i'll never forget the time i saw a buddy of mine fly down a mountain and assassinate a 4 star troll like a falling kill in old AC games.

for me. i used small shield and dagger using troll set for easier approach.
and make sure to always parry or dodge because blocking is not an option for me

This is why I prefer using a round shield. Being able to parry would've trivialized this fight. Also, gitting gud at roll timing and better stamina management would've saved some health as well.
I always built a camp in front of troll caves and cleared them with a bow.
This makes me feel better for getting wrecked about 12 times by a 2-star draugr in a crypt

I just fought a 2 star draugr archer in a crypt, and a single arrow took down ~2/3 of my health with upgraded iron armor and good food. Those things are no joke lol

Parrying with a non tower shield can give you a much higher block stat than you should have, yes it takes timing, but the pay off is incredible, parry a troll and secondary upswing your mace and even on a two star, you'll 2-3 shot him.
Bonemass Buff and a parry shield in future feels it'd be better.
So a two star troll is like a seeker soldier level of hp

Your mistake was using the stinky ass tower shield instead of a buckler, parrying these trolls gets the job done in seconds
I don't remember the first time I found a 2 stars troll, but I do remember the last... It was a rainy day in the ocean, the fog was so dense I could not even see my own feet, and I was fighting a giant snake. I took my bow out and started shooting without looking at where my ship was going, which, obviously, ended with my ship crashing. I felt safe because the snake couldn't reach my ship until I heard a roar, a massive roar. For a moment, I panicked because the fog was way too dense to see a thing, but I quickly recognized the roar of a troll and felt safe again. I ate a bit of meat just in case and jumped out of my ship to defend it, and oh boy, was I not ready for what was coming. The moment I left my base with my ship, I just recently crafted a two-handed spear (I do not know the name in english) and I was still leveling my skill with it, which meant a didn't do much damage with it. Now, back to the ship, I was looking for the troll, thinking it was going to be easy, and I could finally level up my skill, but the moment I took two steps into solid ground, I saw it, a two stars troll, looking at me in the eyes and already getting ready to carsh my head with a tree. I panicked and ate the best food I had, but before I could even open my inventory, it was too late. He killed in a single blow. I killed thousands of trolls, but this one, this one was going to be tough. Thaknfully, I died near my base, so it was easy for me to get my stuff back, but I was worried about my ship. It was defenseless agains a troll, so I ate stamina food and started running back. The 70 seconds it took me to get to my stuff felt like an eternity. When I reached my grave, I grabbed my stuff and equipped everything, alongside some health food. When I was done, I looked for my ship and saw the troll destroying the ship and everything around it. I used the bonemass power and took advantage of the healing and damage reduction of the grave to kill the troll as quickly as possible. But it wasn't enough. He completely ignored me as I tickled his back with the spear while he was beating my ship, until he took so much damage he decided to go for me. After a tough battle in the forest using everything I could in my advantage, the troll was slain. I felt refreshed until I remembered my ship about to collapse, I turned around and looked for wood to craft a workbench, but it was too late. When I arrived to my ship, it was still standing, but then a little grey prick destroyed it in front of my eyes. For a moment, I felt despair, but then I remembered it was empty since I just left my base and rebuilt the ship with no trouble xd

I rolled one down with light armor and spear. Once you get the hang of dodging them slams, its rather easy.
I'm 800 hours into this game and have only ever encountered 2 star trolls on 4 occasions. Of these, 2 I engaged and killed, including 1 on a hardcore run for some reason...

The actual odds of a 2 start clubbed troll IN A CAVE! I'm a little jealous, a lot impressed, and next time; use the small black metal shield. Trolls are crazy easy parries, even at 2 star I think it'd be the best option if you are good at parry fighting them.
