How does this give new york any leverage? Ducks dont have to trade zegras to his preferred team. He has 2 years left on the current deal and then he is an rfa. He also doesn't have any no trade clauses
I mean at the end of the day does it matter what Zegras wants? He's still in RFA territory. Obviously the Ducks would probably prefer something over nothing, but at the end of the day Verbeek can call Zegras - tell him to stay home until he hits UFA.

Comes down to if he wants future $$$ or to play for the Rangers. As I said Verbeek probably wants assets but can also tell Zegras to pound sand.

When you talk about the leverage of NYR, what about the leverage MTL had over Dubois... who ended up in LA.
As a hab fan, the talent of Zegras was appealing, the attitude, it's another story, I wouldn't empty my team to get him, I'm fine if NYR gets him.

The issue the Rangers had during the conference final was players like Zbanajad and Panarin backed away from the physical play at cost to their team. So they’re looking at trading for people that will play the physical game against teams like Florida so Zegras wouldn’t fit their model for what they’re looking for right now I would think.

I feel like Zeev is going to go third overall. He's the best defenseman in the draft and Anaheim needs a defenseman. He's also from Laguna Niguel, CA. Which is 30 minutes from Anaheim. Then Detroit trades for Gibson and Zegras.
To Detroit - Gibson (30% Salary Retained), Zegras // To Anaheim - Husso, Holl, Berggren, Shai Buium, 2024 2nd

@@user-ed6nt1ml6p Zegras is a great center because of his ability to play with more available ice and operate east-west with deception, he's a facilitator and a master at backing off defenders to buy time for others. And he was adequate on the defensive end last year
Yes! Absolutely for Rangers. Zegras should help breakdown opposition game play and help to control the style. Point being that his skill can keep opposition on their heels, which allows Rangers to maximize their skill game. I was trying not to punish myself thinking about it early in the season but wow this would be hot!

Zegras has a very high offensive ceiling but he had his down year. The Ducks should keep him and let him get back to form. Most who don't watch Ducks games have no idea Zegras has been working on his two way game with some noticeable improvements the last month of the season. He also scored seven points in the final ten games of the season. He's going to have a much improved season next year with at least 60 points and maybe even inch his way up to seventy points. Best to keep him and if after next year it still isn't working out in Anaheim trade him when his value is higher.
Health permitting, Z's putting up 75-80 points next year.

Kane is good/great and I'd love to have him on the Red Wings because his play style works with a mostly slow team. The NY Rangers have a lot of speed and Kane would just slow them down.

Zegras has very little say in what happens to him at this point in his career. Honestly nobody cares where he wants to go. Verbeek might try and do the nice thing, but doesn't have to and probably won't because he is a better general manager than that. Also, he would be dumb to go to New York. He will be drowned in that line up and won't get premium ice time.
