The only reason that Wilt Chamberlain is not on a “Mount Rushmore“ of basketball is that he has his own damn mountain
HARD TRUTH!!!
yeah playing vs plumbers.. imagine taking Giannis or Shaq and sending him to Wilts era.. the level of competition was night and day.. Giannis would average 70 points on them boys.
No, it's because even with all that inherent talent, and the clear advantage of being the 2nd 7footer drafted in history, he only performed with selfish intentions. Which is why as a guy that's supposed to be this "dominant" force he didn't win shit as a #1. He didn't win until he played behind arguably better players like Jerry West.
@1dpick1you mean those "real men" who couldn't even dribble with their off-hands? Throwing flatfooted 35 foot shots looking like my grade school son?getting 10 turnovers per team before anyone could make a shot?😂
@1dpick1 you know damn well the players before the 80s were trash af.
Dr. J easily. He changed the entire trajectory of the NBA.
Nope. Connie Hawkins, Elgin Baylor came before Doc. He stole his style from them.

True story
Doctor J brought the streets balling to the main stream.
Changing the game is that means ushering a new era of the game new way the position is played or the business of the game. Those are good picks.
Magic and Larry started the modern-day game as we know it. Their style of play, character, charisma, marketability, and rivalry was the start of the NBA being as popular and profitable as it is today. Others came along later and added to the flare of the sport. FACTS‼️‼️‼️
The disrespect of Earvin Magic Johnson and Larry Bird… the NBA was on tape delay before those 2 entered the league
Yea they forgot to add A.I. to that list. He changed the way guards play period.
AI for sure I'd say more so than steph
@@sirslickthecooliverson didn't change the game at all
How? I’ll disagree. Awesome player but there were scoring pg’s before AI. IT, Tim harderway just two off the dome.
THE ONLY THING A.I. CHANGED WAS SCORING PG'S PLAYING OFF THE BALL, AND HE BROUGHT HIP HOP TO THE NBA AND GAVE US TODAY'S CULTURE!
A.I changed the culture more than the game
Charles Barkley changed the game too believe it or not. He was so dominant at backing down in the post that they implemented the 5 second rule.
Thank you for saying that
Completely forgot about that...good catch !
He was 6’4 battling with 7 footers. HOW? 🔥
Not to mention he was the original small ball experiment

A lot of players through history changed the game
Wilt and Magic definitely changed the game
But the game was in a primitive state. Lebron is Magic 2.0 without even copying Magic
@quickup7530 Wilt yes. Magic? No. 80s was in no way in a primitive state and Magic is the one player to get the near undisputed tag for best PG. Magic was the first of his kind and had an epic 13 season run (1979 to 92). There was literally no one like Magic prior.
I've always felt Lebron is a modern Magic so I agree there. But Magic changed the game on a way that Lebron didn't.
No
Kareem Changed the game… they changed rules for him… what did Wilt change other then just being better then 6’ plumbers?
@@BadWolve yeah. It's like when people give so much praise to Russell. He dominated with the literal best and stacked team in the league in a time when there were like 8 teams. I don't like doing the plumbers comparison tho' because it's not really accurate, especially to the point that Reddick was trying to make when he said it. But I do think both Wilt and Russell dominated in a league where they didn't have equals.
I do think that Wilt would be akin to Giannis and Wemby and would ball out in today's league. Russell wouldn't tho'.
How about the two guys who SAVED the game!! Magic and Larry. IMO the logo should be those two guys jumping it up.
That’s actually not a bad logo lol
That's a damn good point.
Nah
No other basketball player been as famous as Jordan.. so logo he would be the first in line

@@certifiedmusiicgreat question before the 80s the game was on a tape delay so it wasn’t live after the NBA with Magic vs Larry Rivalry the NBA became mainstream so without them there would be no NBA honestly
@@certifiedmusiicBy the way Magic Johnson is 6’9 nobody had ever seen anyone handle the ball at his height and speed so he was kinda like LeBron with😢the hops and won 5 championships.. that lead to big PGs like Penny Hardaway and Grant Hill and Scottie Pippin and Tony Kucoch oh and LeBron James
“Lifted up the game” and “changed the game” are two different things kid
6’9 point guard. He paved the way for bigs to be able to handle the ball today. We don’t see LeBron the way he is today without Magic.
yes you would have!🤦🏽♀️
Yes you would. That's not how things work
... to some extent or another there were players developing in that mold already. Players like Charlie Scott. It's simply that taller players were thought to be best used closer to the basket. So they didn't let them ball handle from an early age. The development of some ball handling by 6'4" to 6'7" players was stunted by this thinking.

Nice to see a comment or 2 that reflects what your average fan might feel, like exactly the facts you spit on "MAGIC" & "Legend Larry", newer NBA fans & players possibly have no idea the huge amount of positive spin The Bird, "Magic" Celtic/Laker rivalry had in taking the NBA brand,NBA player contracts from then to today! Those legendary NBA Championship games of the 1980's with that legendary Boston vs Los Angeles,Lakers vs Celtics,"Magic" Johnson vs Larry 🐦 rivalry were electric, Americans and fans around the world that personally witnessed those times via TV or whatever, were lucky to be there. They did that before he got drafted.
Allen Iverson , Wilt both had new rules added because of them. Iverson brought a whole new type of style and dominated at 6 ft.
Wilt had rules added due to his height. The addition of the 3-point line and European style players meant those rules would be added regardless. And tall players were less common in Wilt's days. Yet overseas an increasing amount of tall players were arriving
Steph Curry changed how individual people play. Not ever changing NBA rules. Traveling is legal in many cases today thanks to James Harden.
@@quickup7530 Steph is a product of the rules added to not allow defense to touch the defender. In 90s rules Steph would lose alot of shot attempts and be forced to pass and cause his PPG to reduce alot. Also he wouldnt be able to penetrate as easy either.

Wilt Chamberlain also had poor play during the playoffs vs regular season. He only had 2 rings, he had to chase his last one. Wilt regular season points was 30.1 and playoffs went down to 24.4 ppg.
Nice you didn't mention his rebounds went up in playoffs and leading the league in assists in 1967 playoffs, when he won his first championship.
Wilt played the majority of playoff games when he reduced scoring and focussed on passing the ball and rebounding/defense in his later years. You are missing any context.
Take a look at the stats for the first 6 playoffs Wilt played, maybe it will change your mind.
When Wilt scored high, people say he was selfish and a ballhog, when he passed the ball and focussed on defense/rebounding, he had "poor play". Still fascinating.
He only have 2 rings because the 60s Celtics had up to 9 HoF players (1963) in their roster. Period. McGee has 3 rings with 3 different franchises. Is he better than Hakeem? Teams win championships, not individuals.
Sorry, you are wrong.
From 1973-2019 players were measured with shoes, Wilt and his competition were measured barefoot.
Difference in average height of starting centers 1963 compared to 2021 is less than a half inch. No other player in NBA history faced more HoF players on his position than Wilt did.
Physical attributes are part of players greatness. Nobody would discredit Jordan for his 48" vert or having the biggest hands in the league. Nobody discredits Shaq for having 330 lbs.
Wilt scored 48 points or more (62 max) on Bill Russell in the '62 season 8 times. No competition? The 1962 Celtics had 7 HoF players in their roster.
Even Wilt would been the tallest player in his era (he wasn't): If being taller than other players gives you so much advantage, I wonder why Manute Bol (7'7") averaged 2.7 ppg for career. You still need skill to score 40 ppg avg for 515(!) consecutive games (#2 in that category goes to Elgin Baylor, 33 games).
Wilt changed the game more than anyone. Literally. GOAT.
Wilt was there before change existed
Nah the guy who invented the game is goat Naismith 😅

They literally reshaped the court because of Wilt.
And thats " REAL TALK" #13
I wasn’t old enough to understand the game at the time but after talking to old sports guys who followed the NBA for as long as I was born (‘81). Magic and Bird have to be on there. Basketball was even viewed live before those guys let alone the showmanship they brought to the game.
Magic
6'9 point guard that played all positions and won finals MVP.
Byrd

Steph now taking it to another level.
Magic Johnson the big point guard
No way yall didn’t mention Wilt who had so many rules change because of him and holds 90+ records, and redefined what it mean to be a literal Superman.
