    I did these! Only I used hairspray to cover the glitter after it didn't soak off well. After that was dry and smooth, I covered them in black chalk paint. Tied buffalo check ribbon around their necks for scarves. Glued yardsticks to the back which I also painted with black chalk paint. Put them in mason jars filled with floral foam and then covered those in burlap with buffalo check ribbon. Wish I could upload a pic CB they came out great. Such a fun craft. Meghan is so inspiring. Yours look awesome!!!

    I want to make a few of these too and I have some buffalo check wrapping paper. I really don't want to scrap off the glitter on the antlers nor do I want to remove them. Do you think that if I put brown craft paper on first and then put my wrapping paper on top of that would work? Do you think that way you wouldn't get the bumps from the glitter? Thanks.

    • @WhimsyWonderland
      @WhimsyWonderland  Před 4 lety

      Sorry it took so long to reply. I've been dealing with some medical issues. I hope you haven't given up on me. I have been thinking about ways to skip the scraping process. The best way that I can think of is to cover the glitter with a coat or 2 of Mod Podge. This would help smooth out the surface. You can even sand lightly between the mod Podge coats to get it even smoother. Just be sure that it's completely dry first. I wish I could try it and experiment for you, but I only got the 3 deer and my Dollar Tree has not gotten any more back in. Good luck. Please let me know what you decide to do and how it turns out. Oh, about the craft paper idea, I'm not sure how that would work. That's adding one more layer of paper and therefore adding one more opportunity for bubbles to form in the paper. If it were me, I would not add kraft paper.

    • @mem2094
      @mem2094 Před 4 lety +1

      @@WhimsyWonderland I put three layers of Mod Podge on and let that dry overnight. I took a scraper and scraped off all of the glitter. The glitter came off in little sheets and it wasn't hard to do but it took a little bit of work. I used red/black buffalo check wrapping paper and Mod Podged that to the reindeer. I got wrinkles and air bubbles but it still looks good. Some of my edges tore a bit so I took black paint and painted around the edges and let some paint get on the paper so it looks a little distressed. I'm still working on it so I'm not done yet but so far I like the way it is turning out. Thanks for the Mod Podge idea, it worked.

      @WhimsyWonderland  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah, I usually don't leave things this unfinished. But due to the time crunch I was under at the time, and no ideas on how to finish it quickly, I just let it go this tie. If I were selling them in my booth, I would probably Mod Podge paper to the back too.

    • @WhimsyWonderland
      @WhimsyWonderland  Před 4 lety

      @@leannel1381 yeah. I have Mod Podged felt before. It soaks up so much glue that it takes a very long time to dry. I would reccommend the Kraft paper from Dollar Tree. The kind that is brown and found in the packing/shipping section of Dollar Tree. It's heavier that wrapping paper and would probably have a better chance of not ripping as you cover the stick.

    Do you realise you’ve just added to the oceans sea life deaths? Not a good idea to wash glitter off, most glitters added to products are not biodegradable, so it gets washed out into the ocean!! It’s highly poisonous to sea life! The best thing to do is don’t buy items with glitter on them or just paint over the top of the glitter, it may not look all smooth and shiny, but you’ll have a clear conscience. You can also get information from local councils regarding glitter dumps!
    Remember to always be mindful of what we can damage by our thoughtless actions...
