This is a pretty rare 1981KTM250. Very nice bike with Fox piggyback shocks. Very difficult to find in this condition because they were imported in limited amounts.
Fifteen minutes before the start of a Two Day Enduro in North Queensland Australia, l saw a dude turn the back knobby on one of these into a slick, by gassing it on a tarmac road. As a motocrosser, it was the first time I'd ever seen a ' fast tyre change ' from a proEnduro rider. He completed the tyre/tube change in the same space of time it would have taken me to get the tools out !
Old Fox piggyback reservoir spring-shox! I made quite a few of those shocks when I worked at Fox back in the day. We built the shocks on a production line like Henry Ford built cars!
i had one of these in about 1986 or 87...…...it was really fast in a straight line but didn't like to turn or stop...…..I ended up giving it to a friend so he could ride with me on my "new" 1982 YZ250...……...still have a bunch of old yz's, a bultaco and a 77 PE250.
I think I rode a '78 PE250 once in '84, probably 13 years old. This guy's channel is killing me. All this old MX and enduro stuff is a garage of dreams. I had an 84 KTM 125 MX.... memories.
Robert Thurman nice, the PE is a very capable machine with plenty of power for what the suspension allows. I did the Virginia City Grand Prix on it a few years back and it held up fine.......4 plus hours on that twin shocker through rocks and hills and dust.
Love the fin rattle as its revved up, had a 420 for a while then they brought out the 495, I just had to have one. Bought an Ex works bike off a guy who swapped to enduro from moto X, Stupid fast and near bullet proof. I even had a set of rims with road rubber on, it was insane to ride but so much fun.
@@kingdebary Indeed they were, I only sold the 495 2 yrs ago as I wasn't using it enough. Not as clean as your beautiful bikes but very clean. I still miss that noise and the smell of 2 stroke oil, it will stay with me for ever.
@@kingdebary Now that is a very good idea, even if it will torment me, it will be worth it to hear one zinging again, glorious noise those big 2 strokes used to make.
That will be very difficult my friend. The 79 KTM 420 and the 1981 KTM 250 and KTM 495 are the most sought-after models. I sold 81 KTM 250 for 3800. To find a nice 1981 KTM 495 I would say anywhere from 5500 to 6500
I need help I have a 1981 ktm 250 also that I'm rebuilding but i need the rear shocks could you please tell me what size are yours or like possibly send me pictures so I know what to get please and thanks that would be great
Beautiful.Loved these bikes, the 420 to. Simple, quick and reliable. And very pretty.👍

Nice! I had a 1978 KTM 400 that looked a lot like that. It had Simmons forks and Fox Air Shocks. The fines were as wide as the engine case!
I have a restored 78 KTM 400 video on this channel if you search for it
@@kingdebary ok thanks
nice bike! sounds sweet. I rode the 80 420 which was a beast!
Great job on the bike brings back great memories
thank you
Man, congratulations for your awesome collection. Greetings from northern Brazil.

I love those shocks. I have them on my 81 KTM495 and I have them on my 79 Honda Mugen ME360
That’s a badass bike right there

Nice bike! When people tell you KTM stands for kick twenty minutes, they haven't seen your bike.
More like they don't what their talking about lol
I had a KTM 390 GS from this same era, same shocks:FAST.
The exhaust is a wild design. Just tucked away nicely.
This was one of my favorite models
@@kingdebary I think they're just as cool as todays bikes.
@@Biker65 I agree, maybe even cooler
Why do someone dislike ur vids. I think they are so good that they miss like button.
They're jealous that he has so many beautiful bikes

you do the correct way to start a 250/500cc engine. The piston will be in top dead center before the start.
Wow that thing has fox shocks
they came with Fox shocks for only that one year!
Io ho avuto ktm sum e ancillotti 👍❤️grandi motori spettacolari ciao

Nice
Why the exhaust sounde like something screaming ?
great Video. We rebuild a GS 82 as you can see on our channel.

im looking to buy one of these or the 425/490 version, what can I expect to pay for one in similar condition?

Hi. Nice work on all of your bikes. Who made the pipe, I need one.
I'm not sure . it came with the bike. have you tried Geoff Morris concepts
kingdebary thank you for the info. He does make one.
excellent

Anyone know where I could get an exhaust pipe for one of these? Just picked up a 1980 ktm 250 and can’t find a pipe anywhere
Geoff Morris Concepts makes them.
I’m restoring one of these right now do you know anywhere I could find a seat
just keep an eye on eBay. You may be able to find a seat base and seat foam at DC Plastics.
