One of the best episodes in DB history. Goku and Krillin’s fight is peak anime choreography and Roshi’s philosophy was genuinely well written. It blows my mind people think Dragon Ball “has no story or character development”

This episode is why I love OG Dragonball so much. The choreography, the wisdom, the music, the build ups before fights, sunset setting and ofc the talented acting.
Also no energy beams, just straight martial arts.

I know how amazing this fight was but can we talk about the incredible words of wisdom from Master Roshi? This goes beyond the anime itself and truly can reach the hearts of many who drown themselves in their pride and blind themselves to the value in humility. As a Christian these lines from Master Roshi hit close to home and relate so much to what Jesus himself preached as well. Amazing stuff. Dragon ball will always be a gem.
Roshi is simply GOAT'ed.
And Goku vs Krillin with the DB intro theme in the background is one of the (many) best sequences in the entire franchise.
Oh, it stopped just when it was getting good. Please do more double episodes, two in a row is just the right amount.
You can really tell in this episode.. Goku has really grown.. His whole demeanor reminds me of Z Goku

I LOVE this fight, its one of the best in any DB series. It really makes you see Krillin's death on Namek differently, and helps you feel Goku's anguish over thinking he'd never see him again. They were vastly different in power by then but DBZ doesn't show much of Krillin and Goku's friendship. After witnessing this and all their history it makes you feel it so much more.

How sick would have been if roshi would of entered the tournament of power as Jacki Chun instead and goku continued believing that they weren't the same person
Not really that sick if you consider that the symbolism here is to indicate that Jackie Chun is no longer needed because Goku doesnt need his master or rather Roshi/JC to be the thing keeping him forward. He needed a challenge to hold him back from being a champion and to make him a great martial artist. But now Jackie Chun is no longer needed since he has many challengers that isnt him and he has now already dedicated himself to martial arts.
@justindeliwe8065 yea maybe but if you don't look at that at all and consider it is in roshis nature to do random things and just for fun to take Jacki Chun out of retirement for himself and not for goku. Plus it would add comedy to goku still not realizing its master roshi in disguise when it's obvious to everyone else

Yah the English dub took out all the insert songs that make moments like this just that much more memorable.
Goku Vs Krillin. Kind of a shame that Goku grew way too strong for Krillin’s own good later on because I liked seeing them battle each other the way they did in OG Dragon Ball.
Honestly even here Goku is a step above Krillin. Yeah it looks close but only because of Goku's bad habbit of holding back to test his opponents

Most characters have psychic abilities can read minds see the future or past ect. Just one thing that gets overlooked rewritten or censored in this English dub due to religious reasons.

Roshi would've lost to Tien. He was holding back a few trump cards. But Roshi knew losing to Tien would've fed his ego. That's my headcanon as to why Roshi disqualified himself.

I think it's because he is passing the tourch on to Goku. As well as teaching Tien some humility, he knows that this battle is between the new generation.
Nah, Roshi still had his super buff transformation up his sleave. It's never really stated how much stronger he gets in that full power form, but it does increase his strength enough to destroy the moon with a kamehameha. Tien doesn't show any feats that are on par with that at any point in og dragonball, so it is likely Roshi would have won the match if he felt he needed to.
@@christianlopez707ore like Tien than Goku because really Goku was too youngfor it(meaning he lacked the experience of a martial artist). And Tien was a good student in the Crane School its just that Shen had tainited Tien's mindset.

Krillin and Goku were so close in power back then. Its a pity that Saiyans get so overpowered after that no earthling manages to match them.
By the next tournament it’s not even close and goku wasn’t even saiyan yet
@@joshuaguevara1309 Goku was a Saiyan. He just didnt know it yet and yes due to his Saiyan abilities to Zenkai Boost he started surpassing every Earthling.

Obviously, but the point is that Jackie Chun served a purpose that is not anymore valid since Goku and Krillin have dedicated themselves to martial arts and they are being challenged by other things that arent Roshi now in this tournament their rival is the Crane School in which they must prove their skill so Jackie Chun was no longer needed in this era anymore.
