  • Ash Creek is the site of the most recent recorded meteorite fall in the United States (February 15, 2009) with a daytime fireball recorded on camera. In this episode, Geoff and Steve will follow clues provided by the locals to uncover the mysterious rocks of this fall.
    -
For thousands of years, meteorites have slammed into the Earth's surface carrying an invaluable record of the origins of our solar system. But finding meteorites on Earth, some buried over centuries by thick layers of dirt and sediment, is no easy task.
Meteorite hunters Steve Arnold and Geoff Notkin travel to some of the most remote locations around the world to explore the scientific and financial value of meteorites. Featuring treks in Chile, Sweden, Australia, the US, Mexico, and more, these meteorite men meet with top scientists, geologists, astronomers, and meteorite experts to reveal a deeper understanding of how meteorites have helped to build our solar system and shape our planet.

Best place to find a meteorite at home is in your rain gutter. As a roof tiler, I've found a few that hit a roof and rolled off into the gutter. The gutter is a sortof concentrator for the large surface area of a roof.

You do know they have a good value and the market is in real demand of them..Colllect them then sell the to the "Meteor Men" They are in Utah Arizona and are passion backed by science and 2 really genuine guys. Valuation is based on science, rarity, size, material and from which meteor it came from You could have a real rarity that it is not only valuable from the list above. An unknown or historically related one may be worth even more and adds to that, so it may allow us to progress scientifically or contain unknown science.

Don't be fooled into thinking all meteorites are magnetic. That's only the iron nickel ones. Standout features are, but not exclusive to: a burnt crust, pitting in the surface that looks like Swiss cheese, a glossy melted appearance, and a Rusty colour.

    YOUR COMMENT:
    * "If it falls on "private land" we compensate the land owner a percentage of the meteorite (aka when sold)."
    * I hope you mean that "you'll compensate the land owner a percentage of the value of the meteroire IF you do all the work finding it"..... because the LANDOWNER OWNS ALL OF THE METEORITE IF IT FALLS ON HIS/HER PROPERTY.... NOT YOU!
    * Is that what you mean?
    * I hope so..... just because you guys are "The Meteorite Men".... doesn't mean you "own" everything when you're travelling around the world!
    * We love what you do and love your show but let's set the legal parameters right now.
    * I'm sure you work out a GREAT COMMISSION for the landowner (ie: 80% or more) and you're very honest and ethical.

I lived on mad river mountain Ohio can't remember exact date but it was 2010 - 2012 I lived in a trailer park well as my mom dad and me were going along the road a meteorite hit right across from the parking lot of mad river mountain ski resort and the impact shook the ground and it felt like a earthquake my mom had to stop because of the shaking made it hard to drive safe so going up the hill it was on the passenger side it was not far from the road and dirt hit the car I remember that officials blocked off area and never let anyone near it which was scary not to mention people where in white plastic suits and held something in there hands and took it took some of the dirt and turned the soil

Ten years ago some Chicago cops scammed an old lady that had one crash in her roof in the city.. "We will help you and take this scary space thing and dispose of it properly, Mame" (hee-hee) Old Lady.."Oh, thank you nice policemen!!" Her grandkids found out and it took them weeks to get the rock back before the cops sold it. Scammers and suckers everywhere.

Do you know they are meteorites, usually you can check yourself. Meteorites are never porous, they are heavier than you would expect, and have a black crust on them. Test them with a magnet.

if you truly have a meteorite with a fossil it it you would be the most famous and richest person. That would be proof of life beyond earth. I would be highly skeptical that it is a meterorite with a fossil inside. Good lucks to you and I hope it turns out to be real, you'd have hit a lottery jackpot with it.

If by chance this is the only one with its unique looks and its quite heavy rock for the size of the stone, it's one of two possible rocks that it could be, 1)meteorite rock. Or 2)volcanic rock.If by chance this is the thing that has been able too get your attention of knowing what to see it's beautiful and unique looks up close on the inspection with there own keen eyesight, so please love for any opportunity of thoughts on this heavy rock I've been holding on to,thanks for the help if you get to read this message I'm going to give you all my fellow people's, yours J.F....
