The Original New York Slice: The Pizza Show
Vložit
- čas přidán 15. 06. 2024
- New York is the birthplace of many things, but for today's purposes, we're sticking to pizza. Frank starts with a quick history lesson from Scott Wiener, the owner of Scott's Pizza Tours. Then, we hit the streets to see and taste the history for ourselves. The best thing about the city's pizza scene is that it's relatively young, so you can still eat slices from the ovens of the people that started it all and put New York pizza on the map.
We meet the granddaughters of the man that literally brought pizza over from Naples, and even see the ovens that he used. Then, we hit all the best slices from Greenwich Village to Soho, and finish in Brooklyn at Luigi's Pizza, a place untouched by time.

God dammit its Scott Wiener again, last time I saw him he whipped out a pizza thermometer and said the pizza was too hot.
The one dollar pizza lol
Lol!
AFTER he requested a well done slice. JFC!
Just thinkin the same damn thing lol
Same😂
"Can I get a well done slice?"
"It's too hot."
fucken jerkoff lol "professional pizza enthusiast"
He used it to measure when to bite
Tell him to go suck toast
Yeah, that dude sucks, haha!
I need to find that clip
Scott looks like the type of guy that whips out a thermometer and asks a pizza to be well done instead of asking " I want a slice"

He kinda looks like that obnoxious guy from the meat shows. I couldn't really remember his name or the name of the show l. Both wearing glasses & self-proclaimed to be an culinary experts in terms of steaks & pizza.
Yo Scott is they type of guy to complain about a dollar slice
Also the type of guy that spends 4 years of his life wandering into pizzerias ordering various things off the menu, wondering if they even should be called pizzas.

I love this show. I’ve watched it many times. My 9 year old daughter and I have watched this at midnight when she couldn’t sleep and she came down stairs. We were craving pizza so hard that I made some make shift pizza with bagels, spaghetti sauce and cheese just to satiate that craving. It will forever be a moment in time that we will both cherish.
The production is top notch but Frank Pinello is what makes this show such a gem. He is so genuine and knowledgeable that you can’t help but be enthralled by the journey. Thank you for all that had a hand in making this.
The owner of Luigi's has a terrific attitude. I wish to have a similar mindset about work.
his sisters look at him like hes crazy tho
Had to pause this video.. and go buy a pizza .. and come back and watch it , while eating my pizza .. shit is amazing lol
Tim Kruse lol think im a do that to

I usually keep ingredients for pizza in my house so I got the oven heating up, just made a 4 personal size pizza's on naan bread, gonna cook them up and watch another episode! impossible to not eat when you watch these.

How do places like Domino's even have business in New York? I mean seriously.

This is not just an ode to pizza, but an ode to a way of running businesses that's dying out. Seeing all these places run by siblings who have inherited it from older generations is just beautiful. I used to work in a bookshop run by three sisters, the third generation of the family. The family had been selling books in the city for over a century. It closed down back in 2018, and two of the three main bookshops in town are big chains. The old unit is still empty, and anytime I pass by it breaks my heart a little.
These businesses thrived in areas that are middle to high density, with mixed-use zoning. How the grid layout cities were built before WW2 ended.
Basically, suburban sprawl and Euclidian zoning killed off mom and pop businesses, because only malls and big box stores can survive in that sort of environment.
Frank is the man, very intuitive, and is incredibly humble when learning about all the unique aspects that these specific places have. I hope That he checks these comments at least once because I have never heard a negative comment about him.
This just reminds me of better simpler times pre covid. Miss the vibrancy Of people doing what they love with people they love.
People will do this again. Trust me!
Luigi's pizza looked the best. That crust. Omg

I live up the block and can assure you, it's amazing.
I visited a friend a while back and he took me to Luigi's. Everyone was super friendly and I got a fresh mozzarella slice, best pizza I've ever had. Four years later, I haven't found anything that good. I still dream about that slice, man. Makes me sad to live on the west coast.
I'm a fucking idiot, when I visited New York I didn't have a single slice of pizza anywhere.
49th it's either the pizza or hotdog, a New York thing.
Did you at least have a convo with a street rat?
49th I did and it was overrated. I've had great pizza all over the u.s.. Its not exclusive to ny.
49th that's true
49th I had pizzs in NY ... it was the worst.... and they were so proud of it.
It’s great to see and learn the history of where pizza came from, and the family that made it all happen.
Im home from college and watching this with a slice and a beer is reminding me of why I love this city so much, and how it’ll always be my home
"It's not work for me, I come here and I hang out." I hope I can say that about my job one day

The man till this day. Still charges 2.50 a slices even during pandemic times! It amazing the quality of food he serves at that price!
Guy made a good point at 19:04 People think we live better now, but actually back in the 1950s, the average blue collar worker could pay out a brand new house with two years of work. Nowadays, even white collar people need to pay off their student loans first before even starting to think about a house.
That’s why I️ prefer the green collar workers.
ARVIN, you think the average black or Latino person lived better in the 1950’s than now in the United States?
Yeah, sure, but the job creators weren't living as well then as now...

@@vanmoody No joke, the Lombardi's outpost in Philadelphia closed so it could move, but it was blocked by the state and they cited the owner's ties to Brescio who was recognized as a mafia capo. Of course he said he knew nothing about it, but the fact he also claimed to know nothing of Brescio's ties sounds suspect. With the regulators saying there was overwhelming evidence of trafficking and criminal activity at every turn involving them and that the storefront was a means of gaining a foothold in PA, it's really tough to doubt it.
