  • On May 31st, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison took over the ongoing prosecution of Derek Chauvin and three other former Minneapolis police officers for their roles in the death of George Floyd. Soon after, Hasan made a passionate plea to Keith Ellison to fight for justice in the case - and it turns out that Keith was listening. Watch as Hasan sits down with Ellison to discuss the case, his decision to file new and increased charges against all four officers in the murder, and the underlying systemic racism within the criminal justice system in America. Hasan also examines the impact of recent protests around the country, Ellison's personal encounters with police brutality as a black man, and his views on the rising calls to abolish policing altogether.

    "If you are a black person in America you are not allowed to be flawed."
    This is why people like to bring up whatever flaws that the people's names we chant as a reason that the movement will not work. I've seen that in the Michael Brown case and the Eric Garner case. Every hero I watched in movies and TV and read in comics had flaws. But in the end they were honored for their efforts and sacrifices. To be flawed is to be human.

      @E Lee It's not the numbers alone that show the imbalance. It's the PERCENTAGE that shows incongruous circumstances. It's not hard to see nor is it to understand how race has played a role in the overwhelming differences in the percentage of Blacks who are, impoverished, disenfranchised, imprisoned, and uneducated. This has been going on since the first African set foot on America's soil, and it continues today. To act like one cannot see it shows a brazen attempt to disguise one's insensitivity that is clearly born with racist undertones. It's a shame we create a world like this for all of our children to inherit over and over again. It's time to stop... This among many other atrocities will eventually spell mankind's demise. We should be better than that... We COULD be better than that!✌

      @E Lee 😂😂😂😂😂 Your remarks will only do service to prove my point FOR me. You are simply being insensitive for no good reason other than bolstering your likely over inflated ego. Again, you have just proven my point FOR me.😜

    • @KingKoopa1
      @KingKoopa1 Před 3 lety

      @E Lee Not exactly... I'm of the opinion that you are likely a pompous a$s who is only here to spout insensitive remarks along racial lines in an attempt to inflate your already bulbous ego to an even larger size. I personally don't have any strong feelings about Keith ELLISON. The cops who participated in the completely botched arrest of George Floyd will have a price to pay. Frankly I think Mr. Floyd's unfortunate turn of events was directly linked to his derelict of character, and his having been under the influence of hard amphetamines and fentanyl that day in question. However the actions of the officers wasn't excusable none the less. So, really I have nothing to explain, and neither do you. I'm just not going to let you hide your racist beliefs behind a bunch of silly statistics that you are reading in such an insensitive and accusatory way. You are simply looking for an excuse to point the finger at Black people, damming an entire racial group of people based on some stats that again, you are not in a position of fully understanding how to read. Nobody has any reason to even acknowledge your judgement of this or any other particular situation concerning race relations... Your ego trip is not of interest to me. Nor is your judgement of Black people. You are not being a productive point of conversation. Reform is necessary.✌😎

      I'm very sorry you felt that way. It's awful to have your first thoughts aiming to justify a criminal's actions. What you described is the dictionary definition of victim blaming. This is how people react to/talk about victims of rape and sexual assault too. It's not the victim's fault. It never is. There is nothing they should have to do or not do to avoid being killed/raped/assaulted. Attackers are the ones who should've acted differently in all of those cases.
      This way of thinking has been instilled into us, into our societies and cultures by the corrupt people in power aiming to protect and justify actions of criminals on their side. We need to recognize that and do everything we can to get out of that mindset.

    • @alhemicarka
      @alhemicarka Před 3 lety +13

      @@jon5397 a good start would be to, every time you catch yourself thinking something along the lines of "if they did that the bad thing wouldn't have happened to them" remind yourself that you're blaming an innocent person. Remind yourself to stop that line of thought, and remember who the real bad guy is, whose actions actually caused harm. It's similar to what a lot of white people do to combat subconscious racism - we're teaching ourselves that the prejudice we hold is largely a product of propaganda we had no control over consuming, so we do our best to intercept those trashy beliefs whenever they surface and root them out, listen to POC and support them. The same should be applied to victims of aforementioned crimes, or their families and loved ones, in case of the victim's death.
      There are a lot of articles online better (and more qualified) than me at explaining what victim blaming is and how to combat it, and while most of them revolve around rape and sexual assault victims, the same is applicable to any sort of victim. This is a good one: www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2016/10/the-psychology-of-victim-blaming/502661/

    As a Muslim, there was nothing offensive with the 'Dua' (Prayer), it was rather cutely honest, we all often ask for silly things in our Dua. One wonders if someone heard my prayer, how funny they'd find it. It was just a nice way to begin.
    As for the interview, Patriot Act has proved to maintain its integrity by not suspending content (there could've been many excuses like a lack of audience & everything), instead they respected the core of the show and positively exploited the current political climate and made the best possible use of helping & guiding people. Which shows that even though they insist that comedy is their priority & news comes later; their real priority is what matters in real time & that is the show's premise -- of a good and relevant journalistic service.

My sister and I are mixed and (silly as this sounds) we had to do *extraordinary* things to have our white grandparents acknowledge us and mention us to others when they would brag on our white cousins all the time for the👏🏽most👏🏽menial👏🏽 of things. The year I graduated high school and started college was the same year my older sister graduated with her bachelor’s and started her master’s program for college. We collectively got one sentence in our family’s Xmas letter while our white cousins who “continuing their career at Olive Garden...” and one who had actually dropped outta college to runaway with her bf and live 1/2way across the country...they and they’re younger bro who was in grade school each got a paragraph to themselves. They got lauded and acknowledged for something most people would see as mediocre, while we were side swept and barely mentioned. We NEED you to read this, Hassan, and the others here. I appreciate everything that's said here and done. I've never commented on a CZcams Video before and I don't plan to keep doing it unless it's extremely necessary for me. Killing of George Floyed took the United States and the rest of the world by storm. It brought in a lot of issues we face as the general public when the pressure builds between the lawmakers and us. This was not just a pressing issue on racism, but also a case, as we know it, a case of police brutality. That's where I want to take what I'm trying to say. Police Department in a state called Tamil Nadu in India, sexually assaulted and killed a father and son for keeping their store open for half an hour longer than the cerfew limit. Most issues that happen in the South of India stays in the South. It never gets out. But hopefully, things are brightening up and people are becoming aware of what is happening. I want Hassan to acknowledge this and bring to international attention the things that happen in India.
    Along with this, the day before this happened, a school boy was assaulted by police in front of his parents for petty issues regarding vehicle handling. I hope this does not go down the comments. I don't do things for likes, but I need them now so this reaches the top so people be aware and we get justice for the father and the son killed trying to feed their family.
