Y’all are talking about Rapsody without knowing how Rapsody actually moves. She doesn’t care about “blowing up”. Her view of success is like Vince Staples, they just want to make music they want, how they want, and if it sounds the way they want. SUCCESS!
Gotta review her in a different light, don’t compare to the shit that’s poppin!
I know yesterday was a holiday but my Mondays felt off without a rap roundtable show. Hopefully mase is back outside.
It ain’t hard to tell is a music classic. Beyond hiphop to be honest.
Rapsody is one the best emcees in hiphop; period! Male or female!
I like that y’all reserve the right to change your minds… art can be objectively critiqued, but how you connect to it is subjective. Peace!
Illmatic is the manual respect the architect. Why do we accept the coparates to tell us the best rapper and albums. We should stand for the culture they are rapping it.
Cin take on the rapsody album is insane! The album is absolutely incredible and emotional. Also wayne DID NOT out shine her. Album of the year so far not evem close competitor Atleast 4.5 mics after 5 full listens. So cohesive and conceptual. Lastly its not 22 songs. Theres 4 interludes so its really 18 songs and 3 songs are around 2 minutes each. A hour long album is not long. Did u listen to it Cin or did u LISTEN TO IT? LOL
Great episode fellas, hope everything good with Mase
Blue Print took the commercial Hustler into another level
i absolutely ❤ the Rapsody album! very surprised that Cin didn’t love it, and i’m surprised that Deeni loved it so much.
Ain’t no best hip hop album of all time. There are to many banging hip hop albums to declare one the greatest.
GKMC is not better than Illmatic like I said in the live chat it’s not even better than Reasonable Doubt or Doggystyle it’s a great modern day rap album I will give it that but to put it in front of many classic rap albums is absurd
But it is a classic….. a newer classic but classic none the less
Nostalgia is a mfer if GKMC came out in the 90s you guys would lap it tf up.
@@jordandavis3867Sing about me is the best song on GKMC in my opinion, and it has a lyric reference to an iconic quotable from NY State of Mind (sleep is the cousin of death). There are no lyrics on GKMD that have transcended and resonate in the culture like illmatic. The lyrics on illmatic were instantly legendary. I remember listening to The World Is Yours before illmatic was released in April 1994 and still feel the same now as I did then. Nas's pen is different. There is nothing on GKMC that is on the level of the second verse of Memory Lane, or the third verse of One Love. That being said, Kendrick is the best of his era when it comes to executing conceptual records. Though we really should be asking why Lupe's Tetsuo & Youth or Drogas Wave which were in the era of To Pimp A Butterfly and Damn, are not in the conversation.
@@bolder2009 Illmatic has dreadful production...we not doing this. Illmatic is reverred for Nas' lyricism the songs in itself are not that great. It was Written is Sonically a much better album. If Illmatic was produced in Compton in the 2010s it would be GKMC.
Giggle boys 😅Jarv is setting the record straight. The Rap Roundtable is organic , you just can’t copy & paste these guys.
Artistically, good kid mad city is a concept album, neither Illmatic or blueprint was made that way, so if you’re looking at it from a purely artistic level, then yes, it’s better than blueprint, Illmatic is more of a tossup
I love Kendrick but ain't nothing topping ILLMATIC period i don't care who comes along threw every generation 💯
New Yorkers and East Coasters are SICK about the dominance of thee Kendrick Lamar. Gotta deal with it tho.
Where’d you come up with that lie? Kendrick has millions of fans on the east coast. The New York glazing has got to stop
@@TheRapRoundtable You gotta make peace with it!
Ask me to make another illmactic never backwards I’m moving stupid here’s another classic. Dot doesn’t want his albums to sound the same. Drake caught a style that works and no matter what accent he uses all his music sounds the same.
I hold “It Takes a Nation” in the same caliber as Illmatic as it is my second favorite record behind Illmatic.
The way y’all tried to dismiss It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back in favor of illmatic and Ready to Die is crazy!
Saying it’s not held on the level of ILLMATIC is dismissing????
@@TheRapRoundtable That’s not what was said. “Let’s be clear. It’s not fcvkin with illmatic” is what was said.
@@TheRapRoundtable well Blue Print damn sure ain't. And Yes to some people It Takes a Nation Is on Illmatic level.
It’s NOT fuckin with Illmatic. What album is?? What are we doing here?
@@TheRapRoundtable and Blue Print ain't Illmatic either but Nation is closer to that illmatic level than BP ever will be that's the point.
Since day 1 I said that GKMC is the west coast version of Illmatic. Better? I can’t say that.
Calling cin out on the rapsody album. You praise midsteppers but fronting on rapsody album. She got lyrics, storytelling, concepts and the beats is nice if kendrick dropped it you would call it a modern day classic
GKMC Vs Illmatic
1. Compton < Represent
2. m.A.A.d City = NY State of Mind
3. Money Trees > The World Is Yours
4. Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst > Memory Lane
5. Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe > One Time 4 Your Mind
6. Backseat Freestyle > Halftime
7. Art of Peer Pressure < One Love
8. Good Kid < Life’s a Bitch
9. Sherane Master Splinter’s Daughter > The Genesis
10. Black Boy Fly > It Ain’t Hard to Tell
6 Kendrick > 3 Nas
1 tie
7:47 🤣 @Jarv I’m dead 💀🤣
🤣🤣🤣
This is @ good argument
The last segment the best part this episode. Hella pods, u can tell the mfs are just reading a script, or they obviously biased in their tastes and wont admit it. Yall stand on yall square, if somebody gotta issue with it, they can bite a curb. 🤷🏽♂️
Wasnt the blueprint kanye, just blaze and bink! It wasn’t all kanye west production
Nas is the goat but no disrespect to illmatic but take a nation of millions and paid in full are better albums and possibly the purple tape
Hov American Gangsta
Nas Life is Good
2 underrated classics
The list is crazy but kbot smoking top five
I see what they are trying to do, but it's gonna be a little while until Illmatic gets knocked down.
I think the list overall was decent just the placement of the rap albums was off and they was missing some.. the r&b and rock stuff was a lil off to
Wait wait. Aquemini is a top 5 rap album. In my top 2
The fact that these 3 were listed before Rakim Paid in Full makes the list invalid
Who??
Paid in full is the greatest hip hop album of all time.
@@williesween8780 according to no one
@@ClydeCyrus Did you just ask who is Rakim? LOL
@@williesween8780no one below 40yo plays that shit. Respect but I'm not playing this ever but for historical reasons
Y'all off with undervaluing PE's It Takes A Nation.. . Before Illmatic overtook the consensus as possibly the greatest hip hop album of all time, that PE album enjoyed that esteem critically, and by the culture at large that was outside for it .
It sonically shifted the game . That album is the first pro-black magnum opus in hip hop , and while the messaging was political it was still jamming ! Jamming so much, that niggas played PE songs at parties then, in the middle of the exploding crack era , drug dealers even blasted PE in their Jettas, Saabs and Beamers . PE album crossed over to where there radical messaging, and chaotic arrangements were big with the suburban whites, and rock music heads . Y'all buggin . This album had spurred a whole agenda for hip hop at the time, and ultimately spurred the agenda by the government to counteract the uprising tone a few short years later . Yeah y'all sound crazy to be dismissive of this seminal work .
Yes. Personally I like "fear of a black planet" more and think it's their "magnum opus"
It deffo top 10
@@idolgray Love Fear of a black planet too , but It doesn't have as many stand alone classic joints as their previous . Rebel without a Pause, Don't Believe the Hype, Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos, Terminator X at the Edge of Panic, Night of the living bassheads, Bring the noise, Louder Than A bomb . Come on !!!
Listen, Fear's most enduring songs have been Fight the power and Welcome to the terror dome . The rest of the album is fire but in terms of impactful records , everything else is essentially just dope album cuts like Brothers gonna work it out, burn Hollywood burn, War 33/3 is my favorite .
Facts! It Takes a Nation is my second favorite album after Illmatic.
What list was this ? I didn’t see or I can’t find it. Well I can’t find the rap one
It was Apple Music’s list. It’s pretty bad.
Jarv is bluebrint your favorite jay album?
No live comments??
You know whats funny h
Go play kendrick album next to those album you gonna see the difference
I have don't that and I can objectively say I beg to differ
Illmatic is losing its sacred place. With these kids MBDTF is their sacred shit and TPAB next to it. Even peeps going far as saying Ye & Kendrick should've gotten two album spots. Illmatic is just an old relic to this generation, expect that even more the next 10+ years.
Look, JayZ stans have always wanted to do this for a while now.
They have always wanted to say there's that one JayZ album that is actually better than Illmatic, I don't Jay thinks that in reality but then these Stans they are ready to take a bullet for the man that put food on their table.
For me, I honestly don't pay any mind to these lists.
Wtf are u yapping about, for this generation esp fans their savior is Kanye. Kanye did Blueprint to em not blaze or bink, hence Hov music gets played. You cant blame Jay-Z old ass fans for illmatic losing its sacred place. With these kids MBDTF is their sacred shit and TPAB. Catch up, this aint the 2000s nobody cares about Nas vs Hov LOL.
Nas is the poor man’s Jay Z.
@@williesween8780 Nas has always been Nas, Jay-z had an identity crisis and has always been known to be insecure.
Dude called T.I to ask if TIP really felt he 2pac was the best rapper ever.
Dude wanted to be Nas so bad in 95, was literally asking Nas baby mom's about Nas, throwing unsolicited shoutouts at Nas.
Dude has literally said it himself, that he looks to Nas musically.
So yea bro, you can live denial about your favorite rapper, the receipts are out there.
Rapsody flow is like watching paint dry nothing she says makes me want to replay it multiple times
Lmao facts Ted hill she boring asf
she is dope but i think it is hard for men to really connect with her because she is a female. Most of don’t really care to glimpse inside a woman’s mind when listening to hip-hop. Her typically boring production doesn’t really help the cause either. I just wish more woman connected with her music because she is dope. I just can’t listen to her for more than ten minutes.
Her albums are dope and I don’t want to pigeon hole you but if you don’t feel her shit, you must like all of those wack chicks that’s rapping today.
@@curtis75black nah that’s a weak argument. I personally hate sexxy red, glorilla, ice spice, latto and so many more’s music. I think this whole female movement of rappers is absolute garbage because most of them have no skills at all. With that being said , rhapsody is a super dope emcee but her music doesn’t have staying power for me. i don’t consider most of her music male friendly at all. I don’t relate to it and don’t really want to listen to it….but i still appreciate her skills.
@@rufuscross3884 Well, what is it from her you’re not getting ? The only thing I can think of is subject matter. I mean since she’s a “Super Dope Emcee”.
Yooooo 🫡
I honestly believe Rapsody is 3 for 3 with classics or close to classics with all 3. She makes the albims J cole wish he could make. Shes the star from North Carolina.
GKMC & The Blueprint > IIlmatic
I’m convinced you guys and most people here don’t look at the intricacies of rap flows, scheme, tone, MC creativity and the ability to switch all four so you don’t sound the same every song. You people just go with what sounds good to you and not look at things from a unbiased view
Smh
@@TheRapRoundtable Clearly this Idiot doesn’t watch Ever
Jarv Good Kid & Blue Print are closer to the same level cause ain't no way any of those 2 albums are anywhere close to Illmatic & It Takes A Nation.
This is what Drake was saying. Everything KDot talks he'll get a Grammy. Folks gassing heavy
Throw the diamond up …Blueprint!!! 🤦🏾♂️
No. No and no.
I love Illmatic, but I’d put Ready to Die and Life After Death ahead of it as more genre defining albums.
Foh with this kendrick glazing in the world right now......illmatic shouldn't be disrespected like this SMFH.
LOL you getting to emotional about this man. Can you explain in what ways that illmatic is objectively better? Is is the rapping? thats a wash. Production? a definite wash? Storytelling? Kendrick wins that. Y'all to damn old to be acting like babies about equally great projects
I dunno.. gkmc is phenomenal
Only built for Cuban Linx is far superior than Blueprint and GKMC combined
No tpad is crazy
Absolutely not..
GKMC is the greatest rap album OAT. Illmatic, Takeover, It was Written, MMLP, Eminem Show, Ready To Die, Madvilliany, Enter the Wu-Tang, The Low End Theory, The Infamous, The Chronic, Aquemini, doesn’t showcase the diversity in flows, rhyme scheme, and song composition. Not to mention storytelling, creativity with adlibs, different voices, tones, and volume, skits, lyrical visuals. I mean what from the lyrical masterclasses from Good Kid, Backseat freestyle, second half of maad city, BDKMV remix with Jayz, Compton. To club bangers in BDKMV, Money Trees, Maad city, Swimming Pools. To unmatched storytelling songs like Sherane, The Art of Peer Pressure , Collect Calls, Black Boy Fly, SAMIDOT, like wtf and I’m not even done yet. To soulful/r&b vibe songs like poetic justice with Drake are you shitting me, Real, The recipe, Now or Never with Mary J Blige. Like cmon I know there are albums like Illmatic and It was Written and MMLP that are more lyrical but they don’t check these boxes above, over “King Kendrick Lamar, King Kendrick I meant it my point intended is raw. Fix your lenses forensic would’ve told Kendrick had Killed it. Pretend it’s a massacre and the masses upon us. And I mastered being the master at dodging your honor. And the chapter that read at twenty-five I would live dormant like five in the mourning. They’ll raid your spot while Kendrick’s performing and if they take everything know I got..” “Now everybody serenade the new faith of Kendrick Lamar”
Couldn’t have said it any better💯
Deadasss bro like these niggas act like they old fav albums can compete sonically, storytelling, flow switching, scheme switching and unexpected punchlines like today they buggin tf out
No.
Everyone who considers themselves students of hip hop should see this
Nah but honestly their choices are off in every genre when it comes to placement and albums it excluded
One day we'll be mature enough to have an honest discussion about how overrated Blueprint is. That album doesn't have the best rapping of Jay's career(Reasonable doubt, Vol 1 does), it doesn't have the biggest songs of his career(Vol 2 does), and it doesn't have any theme or real identity(like Black album, American Gangsta does) it's just a really good project that's gassed to hell because it's Jay and it came out at the perfect time during it's era. But song for song that album is not competing with A LOT of all time great rap albums.
#Mailbag
Nah for real definitely seen like 10 people that jacked yall wave or tried to lol all 10 of died doe 😂😭😭
I’m glad somebody said it “doggystyle was better than chronic” 🫡
im not mad at saying gkmc is the better album. concept albums just hit different. it's one thing to make an album of hits. but to add a theme and skits that tie it all together is a different level of art
Jarv stop it
the kendrick glazing is at an all time high
As well as the Kendrick hate
Better than ILLMATIC we all know the answer to that is NO … Better than Blueprint I’m not sure but I think someone can make a real argument for it … GKMC is not even better than The Chronic or DOGGYSTYLE … These lists that these people put out can’t be given any relevancy and honestly sometimes I think they do these lists to create debate and controversy and nothing else
GKMC ain't the best rap album of all time but it is better than Blueprint. Blueprint ain't even Jay Z best album it's clearly The Black Album. My top 10 all time Hip Hop albums is :
1) Illmatic
2) Black Album
3) The Chronic
4) All Eyes on Me
5) Life After Death
6) GKMC
7) It takes a nation of Millions
8) Amerikkkas Most Wanted
9) Doggystyle
10) Paid in Full
I agree with Cyn, TPAB is better than GKMC.
Ya'll Getting Click Baitish My Guys... GKMC Is Probably A Classic But Stop...
This comment is super wack and let’s explain why it is. The channel has a lot of Nas and Kendrick subs. Illmatic is the most respected rap album ever. Kenny fans love GKMC. The Blueprint is a top 2 Jay-Z album. Apple made a list that places GKMC above those albums. Then on our pod we discussed why that placement is shaky while giving credence to GKMC’s placement as a modern classic. Maybe watch the pod before you comment next time.
@@TheRapRoundtable Well Why Didn't U Say It's Apple's List In The Thumbnail Then??? Cut The Crap.. I Watch All Ya'll Pods & Watching This 1 Right Now.. Blueprint 1 is beyond a classic illmatic is overrated I don't listen to good kid maad city luaren hill album is the best female album but when you have a billion dollars you can pull strings it's all jay
Yall got some wildly, biased takes. GKMC is a flawless project as is Illmatic. Yall Chronic take is bogus.....
You said GKMC is as good as Illmatic, you basically said we’re overrating The Chronic and WE’RE biased? You for real?
@TheRapRoundtable illmatic isn't the best album. Also, it's possible for an album to be better. The Chronic is a masterpiece, but even it can be bested.
Am starting to feel like Dot is plant. And its all because of lists like these.
Gkmc ain't close to illmatic sry

A Top 10 album has to be one that if you removed them from the equation of HipHop there wouldn't be any legs for the genre to stand on.
Its really sad you guys aren't taking this conversation seriously enough especially Cinsere.
GKIMC is not even better than IWW
It's actually up there with it iww might have two skips whit gkmc doesn't have any
Gkimc Issa giveaway u didn't hear it
I think the majority of fans would actually put GKMC over illmatic now. I think most would rate kendrick over Nas all time now. He only has pac and jay to surpass.
Absolutely not!!! And I love Kendrick!
The fact you think Kendrick pass Nas but somehow can’t pass Jay is laughable being that Nas beat Jay has better albums than Jay better lyrically storytelling. I’m trying to figure out how Jay is in any way better than Kendrick at what
This is just your opinion bro
@@JD-ny3vz it's not my opinion...Nas is my GOAT and the arguable goat. I just see what rap/music media and fans are doing to put Kendrick past him. Similar to what cin said. He has become the "annointed" one. Especially after his diss records towards drake.
@@brianlarkins4250 the general hip hop public still would put jay over nas based on "hits" popularity and album sales. I know nas is greater, people like us are in the minority. Nas isnt celebrated or revered the same way as jay and pac. They put kendrick catalog over his.
Stop trying to start a war.
Its good but its not enough
1:12:30 You're talking attention span on a 2 hour podcast, yet Rapsody is asking for too much🤔 youtube.com/@theraproundtable?si=IHmeHcerYGgz_IUq remember that when you guys ask the audience to stick around for an interview 1 hour and 6 minutes in..
Quality content will always expand attention..
And yet we listened, multiple times and reviewed it thoroughly. 1. You’re corny af for this comment and 2. You’re corny af for this comment because Cin said that in reference to where the climate is in music where album length is concerned and even then they guys said she did right to get that many songs in within the timeframe and 3 you’re corny af for this comment because by the standard of music pods, we run much shorter than most of them even with interviews bundled.
