its funny because, the reason homeschooling is rough for me is, im too easy going. I do not plan/prepare well enough. I dont feel pressure, I feel very relaxed, which I feel like is a problem.

This is alsp my problem. I love everyone's planning videos, but do not actually plan myself. I don't understand how people do 3+ hours of school daily for their first or second graders. That sounds like death.

Thank you, I need this reminder from time to time. You really made me think about where are right now, 3/4 of the way through our "school year" and letting go of the curricula parts that served us well 6 months ago, but are now just a box to check. Now is a good time to think about plans for fall and which current pieces best support our children to be at ready for then. For me, it means ditching the majority of my 5th grader's language arts to put our focus squarely on writing skills and reading comprehension which are both tough for him. In math, he doesn't need to start the 3 chapters that will be gone over in greater detail next year, he needs more practice with division and fractions which will help him far more in the long run than pressing on. ❤ I always love hearing your point of view.

I was in the hospital for a week in October (collapsed lungs, COVID, pneumonia, severe asthma are up), COVID lasted 3w. We ended up a month behind "schedule", it took me another week to be okay with this and learning to be more flexible. Honestly, we took a bit more time and just appreciated life and surviving that trial. Wish I had this video during that time to guide me into being okay ☺️ Caught myself getting more rigid recently and this video popped up. Great reminder to just go with the flow and teach at their pace. No need to compare to others and traditional school.

These are so spot on! I have definitely dealt with all 6 in my 11 yrs of homeschooling and I’ve learned the hard way. If you are a new homeschooler, take these words to heart and learn from Angie’s wisdom!
    Thanks Angie! This was fantastic!

Here for a defense of twaddle as a healthy component of a child's experience of literature!
When I was a kid, I loved Captain Underpants. I also loved Jane Austen novels. I'm so grateful my mom didn't shame me for liking Captain Underpants or tell me I couldn't check them out from the library.
My husband's first grade teacher did shame him for wanting to buy Captain Underpants from a school book fair, and in 8th grade he wasn't allowed to check out books below his test-assigned reading level. He attributes his hatred of reading to those two experiences.

Thank you for this. I am definitely working way harder than my kids... I have a nearly 8 yr old who is just starting to read and hates to do anything school related unless she takes hours to color something and a 3 yr old that wants to do something new or play with someone every 5 min... i need to have focused time with my older child and be able to trust her to do something onnher own so i can focus on my younger one too...
how do you get your kids engaged in a happy way to do something homeschoolwise... it's like pulling teeth with them..

Just because it's a worksheet doesn't mean it has to be busy work. I think it only becomes busy work when the material is no longer challenging and the child isn't learning or reinforcing a newly learned skill.

I get fixated on completing things I've started, almost compulsively. It's very difficult for me to abandon a thing once I realize it isn't working or it isn't what I thought it was. I've done it (yay, me!) but it's a struggle. I have to internationally talk myself through it and give myself permission to pivot.

THANKS FOR THIS! Its so nice to hear that its ok they are at their pace. I came to homeschool after all this crazy stuff... You and another homeschool mom on here (simply living it) have helped make it not hard... lol maybe to easy, well not really just you have made it where my day flows easy.Well.... with some, have one who hates it! I don't stress over everything! its been so nice!! For that thank you!
Also my head just blew up realizing.. We don't have to finish everything! thank you Jesus! lol
Saw your book in the back ground now I feel I need to read it again! 🥰

You are simply right on in the way that homeschool philosophy should be and no doubt the way things have changed in teaching children how and what to teach it’s a whole different ballgame this world I’d way different and each child is different and knowing your students is essential in wat and how you prepare to teach them nice work! I wish I was taught this way!👍👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️

I feel like I'm way more creative than my kid, and that's frustrating. I have to remember that she is her own person and things that I find interesting won't be hers. I also realize that I let her have media too too early because of our home situation as her sister is very disabled and my homeschooled kiddo was very high needs too. I don't know what I could have done differently but I wish I had done something else. This summer I will be putting the hammer down on media and forcing my daughter to keep that phone out of her hands as much as possible and engage with the real world. Maybe it'll give her a spark of creativity.

In the struggle bus of feeling like I have to “prove” that my kids are “normal.” 🙄 I know that everyone is different, and not even public school or private kids are “normal.”
    Feeling the pressure nonetheless.

First time homeschooling here and I don’t know how to do homeschool at home that don’t replicate the traditional school setting. I feel that if we’re not at the table doing work books we’re not doing anything. Also, because when hubby gets home and ask if we did schoolwork my daughter will answer we didn’t do any if we didn’t work on the workbooks. How do you do school without being glued to the table with workbooks and holding your kid’s hand because they’ll lose focus if i tend to my other kids?
