I definitely think they will do a custom Starfield console. When everyone was talking about the Diablo bundle not being a custom console, I figured it was because they would do a Starfield one. It just makes more sense for a game that is supposed to be Xbox's new tentpole game. They will want to market that heavily.
I'd be absolutely shocked if they didn't have a custom Starfield console ( and bundle) and matching controller. I'm low key thinking they might show it during the Direct and open pre-orders soon after
If Todd can actually meet a deadline then yes, but it will probably end up like the launch of the console Master Chief on the box and….no Halo. Would be super detrimental if this also happens with fallout in space.

One of the nicest custom consoles were the last gen Gears of War consoles. I still have both of them. The level of detail was great that extended all the way to the controllers. Not sure we will ever see that level again but hopeful. The PS4 also seen some very nice custom models as well but I don't think to the level of the Gears.
Rand, I think competition is always great and hopefully it will help with the pricing over time. Right now however it is still way too expensive. In comparison I picked up a WD Black 2TB SSD to use in my PS5 for around $180. It is not only a much faster SSD but it can also be used in a PC or as external storage with an enclosure.
While I'm glad to see the Storage situation improve, it's not nearly enough, right now I can easily pick up a 2TB PS5 compatible drive for less than what the new WD Black Expansion card for the Series console will cost ($179). We need more options, Price of NVMe drives have dropped in recent months, yet Xbox prices are still high, partially due to the lack of competition and partially down to the small size nature of the cards.
Somebody needs to produce an NVMe enclosure with an "L" shaped XSX/S plug on the end. Best of both worlds: purchase your own NVMe like PS5 and swappable like XSX/S. The design would be as simple as any other enclosure, but you'd need MS's blessing to make the proprietary plug. Crucial or Patriot or Sabrent or etc. could reverse engineer the plug, but they'd get sued!
I just paid $200 for a Kingston fury renegade 2 TB. The price hasn’t dropped that much.
@@kylerobison1425 That card is £163 at Amazon right now, which is less than what the Expansion card will likely cost in the UK (around £175, after currency conversion, and the 20% VAT (Sales Tax) added)
The WD Black SN770 2TB is £120, Crucial P5 plus 2TB £150. Samsung 980 Pro £165, etc, all compatible with PS5, (though SN770 not recommended) and cheaper than the cost of the expansion card.
Also even if it wasn't cheaper, you are still talking about $20 extra for double the storage, doesn't make the Xbox cards look any better.

Diablo bundle would have been really cool if it was one of their custom consoles and custom controller and made it limited. All of their themes like that have been good so hope we start to see some more

There was some update to the controller story where the seller seems to specialize in customizing controllers so it might be fake. Though I wouldn't be surprised if an official announcement is very similar to it. The Diablo SKU is in line with what you usually do with third party marketing deals and hey, more bundles is a good short/immediate step. Hoping Starfield has a custom console and it releases a bit ahead of the launch as I'm looking to grab my Series X end of July.
I'll buy the 1TB storage when it's at 150. It's good that there's other options but still a bit high for me.

Well it sucks because I bought the 500 gig one that was like a hundred and $17 I mean I'm happy I have play most of my games I eventually just by wd 2 tb hdd drive I pretty much have all my games on and it's not even full and I can play most them off that hard drive I'll just have to wait just a tiny bit longer in a loading screens and only cost me $79

Internal storage 50-65% full and 4 TB slow external HDD 60%ish full, haven't really felt the need yet for expansion ssd. Also got series S plus extra controller for $200 last November so hard to justify$180 for 1 TB

Literally have been holding out on buying a next gen Xbox solely to see if they make a limited edition starfield series x. It’s been the game I’ve been waiting for since it’s official first announcement. Wouldn’t be too upset if they didn’t make one, but I’d be pretty pissed if I just bought a regular series x now only for a starfield edition to come out literally months later.

Good item about the memory cards but for that price you could get a 14tb external hard drive and just transfer games back and forth and have loads of room
That's what I did. With an 8tb. I usually only juggle playing a couple games at a time anyway so I don't even have to move them often.

I think the way the dashboard highlights Game Pass ultimately helps the platform and is even helping with the ABK deal.
I'm leaning towards getting a 4TB SSD external drive to keep my XSX games on and transferring game back and forth as needed. I do have a 5TB HDD drive that I keep my Xbox, 360, and X1X games on.
Will need a USB hub as my second USB I'm using for wireless headset and the front one for my arcade stick.
Why would you buy an expensive SSD just to store games on? Just store them on the HDD and xfer them from there.
You do know you can store XSX games on a regular HDD right? You just cant play them from there....and you cant play them off of a normal SSD either.... so the SSD is just overly expensive
With these SSD sticks coming out are they going be any different then the normal external storage devices? I have 2TB external storage for my series x but a bunch of games can't be played from the external and have to be transferred back to internal to play
The whole point of these WD and Seagate memory cards it that any game can be played from them unlike a ordinary harddrive for series S & X specific games.
Sony did a good job with the PS4 making it easy to convert the platter drive to an SSD. Appears the PS5 is easy to upgrade as well.
I’m just amazed that ps3 had easily swapped internal hdd and Xbox goes the whole xb1 gen not giving us easy access to the internal. It has to be the decision makers who keep making these TERRIBLE hardware decisions.

I would NOT BUY any upgraded console when we haven’t yet had games that take full advantages of what was promised to us however I would definitely consider buying a Starfield special edition console if it ever gets announced. I’m hyped for the game and wouldn’t mind adding another Series X Starfield Console right next to the original console.

Hey Rand. Do you think part of the console shortage might be due to a starfield custom console that they already had in production for either of the previous release time frames? I know it takes quite a bit of lead time to get something like that designed and made. Given the starfield delays, they'd have to delay the consoles too. Maybe there is a warehouse somewhere full of starfield consoles waiting to be set free? Just a thought. Keep up the great content.

$179 is still stupidly high for a WD Black 1TB; I can get the 2TB NVMe version for my PC at $159.
XBox should have its drives completely user serviceable like Playstation does. It makes no sense.

I have all 3 consoles (xbox series x, ps5, and switch) and all 3 are great in their own way.
If they release a special edition Starfield Series S, it HAS to be at the very least a 1TB console, if they got to hike it $50, then so be it. For Series X, a 2TB variant.

m.2 ssd's are so insanely easy to install that it's almost unfortunate that xbox went the proprietary route. $180 for 1tb from WD, is still insanely expensive when you see the normal M.2 ssd market prices right now.

That's the reason why Nintendo and Sony get passes a lot more consistently than Xbox. Xbox under delivers regularly on the games front when it comes to first party titles. Fable, an Xbox branded first party title, if it had ties to Sony, would've already been out on the PlayStation 5. So would many of the first party titles Xbox keeps promising us is coming soon.

I am in Ireland and have been using family game pass for 5 months now and it's euro 21.99 a month a bargain as now my 4 kids can use the one game pass to play games they want without having to have another game pass subscription

That controller imo can not be an official joint because it has grips on the back and is not an elite controller so unless I'm behind the times and stock Xbox controllers now have grip on the rear handles then it's gotta be a custom

I don't need an expansion card, but if I did, I'd stick with Seagate. I prefer their hardware. Besides, $20 isn't that big of a deal. These expansion cards should cost $149 at the most.

No... I still use my external WD 4tb Hdd £ 50. I use it to play xbox one & 360 games straight from the western Digital My Passport Drive ... If I need to, I just transfer Series X games from external to internal & back again in about 10 minutes for the bigger games.
Exactly what I do. Usually don't juggle more than 2 games at a time anyway so I don't even move things that often really.

Frankly, its full potential hasn't even been hit yet. Microsoft hasn't even begun to fulfill the "Next gen" promises they made over how the Series X "Will change gaming." I'm personally not impressed yet.

Making the Xbox SS better performance wise at the same price, and just keep the Xbox SX as is a few more years would be a big win for Microsoft. Xbox SX is performing better than the PS5 right now, and if Sony choose to upgrade that hardware then Microsoft should have the plans ready to upgrade it aswell.
Would be crazy if Microsoft beefed up their Xbox SS without extra costs to compete even more against the PS5 as is, because the only thing the infamous ponies have is their hyping of exclusives and that's about it.

i fully expect series s|x revisions next year with usb 4.0. USB 4 is thunderbolt based with double the lanes and uses USB C (not the lightning connector). Should make external m.2 drives at full speed possible. Eliminating the need for the memory card.
