- This guide will show you how to remove all boot up text when the Raspberry Pi starts, so a quiet/silent boot process into your game. This can be useful once you have finished your image and want it to cleanly start/restart into a given game.
I used a Raspberry Pi 3B+ here with RetroPie 4.7.21

Amazing! Thank you! I also found it helpful to remove all of the additional emulators as part of the "main packages" and I also removed the splash screen along with that so now I see almost nothing (including RetroPie and Emulation Station screens) till it boots.
Hacve a video on removing the splash screen?
I had been thinking about this for a very long time. Now that I have little ones at home, this is a must to minimize the risk of disaster due to curiosity. 😂 Thanks a lot for this tutorial!!
You think I could follow this guide to get a current Pi 2B running one MAME ROM, Frogger, to boot straight into the ROM when powered on?
I'd like the fastest boot straight into the ROM, closer to an actual Frogger cabinet.
Helpful. Thanks
Thanks for the great video. Only problem I'm having now is a few seconds after the splash screen and for a split second before the game loads, I get a white rectangular border flashing around the entire edge of the screen. It only does it on my Pi 4 with this set up, but not my Pi 3.
Tried disabling and reenabling shaders, changing aspect ratio to core, 3:2, full screen, and back again, nothing works.
Any idea what it is?
Only thing that is different between the Pi 3 and 4 that I haven't tried is my Pi 4 is outputting HDMI, and my Pi 3 outputting VGA through a VGA666 hat (both 1920x1080). Gonna switch this up later and see if the problem remains or isolated to HDMI out.
EDIT: I think the problem is Retroarch related, cause whenever I have Shaders enabled ( using the Curved CRT shader), the flashing white boarder is curved like the shader, as opposed to rectangle when Shaders are off.
Hi, I wanted to ask you how to eliminate the emulationstation startup screen and go directly to the game system selection menu. Thanks.
Which part of this removed the config Texted box right before the game loads
Hi there.
I did everything you said and I get an error message saying USB 1-1.1.1. device read/64 error 32
Scratch all
It worked awesome job...hugga
This is great, gonna try this tonight to see if it will help me have a cleaner boot. Any chance you could troubleshoot another issue I am having? I can't find how to 'show' bios files on booting an emulator/game. I like having the bios show for (PS1 and GBA), but it won't work, even though I have it enabled in retroarch settings and I have them correctly named inside the pi/home/retropie-mount/bios folder. (I am using an external drive). Also it used to work fine before, but I installed something that was supposed to have all settings pre-build to help with a CRT build (I had to undo most of it because it was for NTSC and I am PAL. I am pretty sure something it installed messed with it. Im thinking tetrarch isn't directed to the correct folder? how could I change that? Thanks in advance
@floob the text is removed from ES but when I boot a game from attractmode there is a quick text that pops up
Cant see what your typing onscreen because blurred, and your talking to fast, so I cant see or hear what your typing in. Have you got any written text, how to do this?
So when I run the sudo nano /boot/cmdline.txt it brings me to the same screen as you, but no line of text is there. Any suggestions? I'm doing this on a fresh install. Thanks!
Check the file is there first - "cd /boot" then "ls" to get a list of files. If you see it, just run "sudo nano cmdline.txt" The blank file implies its not opening the existing file.
@@Floob Wow you're fast. That worked a treat man, thank you!
@floob I got up to 20:54 and now my Pi wont boot up at all it is stuck displaying “Usage: login[-p] [name]” etc over and over again
It played my Splash Screen video then started that^
@@colelittle7079 You could try to SSH retropie.org.uk/docs/SSH/ in to the Pi and reverse your last step
Thanks, I just formatted my SD and re started back to that step now! Wish me luck not sure exactly what happened?? 🤞🏼
cant figure out how to type a ~ at 15:19
Does this help? www.computerhope.com/jargon/t/tilde.htm
Video is very distorted and unusable due to that.
is there a way to load it to the game titles instead of the game? i just wanna get rid of all the boot screens
@floob - thanks for the walkthrough. I'm still booting to the EMU STATION with this command line in use
/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 _SYS_ "mame-libretro" "$home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/defender.zip" && emulationstation
do you reference the .zip or a file inside the .zip?
You reference the filename, so just the .zip file.
make sure SYS has the underscores on both sides and your path to the rom doesn't need pi. /opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 _SYS_ "mame-libretro" "$home/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/defender.zip" && emulationstation
