  • As in other languages, Haitians have their own sweet nickname for their loved one. I rallied a list of the possible Haitian nicknames that one may call a love one. How does calling your Girlfriend “kòkòt” sound to you? It is a pretty popular love nickname in Haiti beside Cheri.
Do does your Haitian boyfriend call you?

MESÌ !!!🙏 I am a Haitian-American mother of 3, & I was never taught Haitian Creole as a child, even though my mother was born & raised in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. I am not mad at her about it but just thankful that I have resources like your videos to help me to teach myself and one day teach my children ❤️ keep it up!

For the record, I call her Lasirenn 💗
I was already fascinated by Vodou before we met, and I started to get deeper into the subject when we started dating...I also love to give pet names. I had started calling her "Siren", then I looked up the Kreyol translation and found "Lasirenn", one of the Lwa and a manifestation of Mami Wata.
The name fits her well 😍

What about “pa” or “pap”? I’ve heard them but I don’t know what they mean.

    • @learnhaitiancreole
      @learnhaitiancreole  Před 4 lety +1

      Pa vs pap
pap (contraction for pa ap) - negative form of a progressive or future tense.
pa → determiner for negative form in Creole
ap → determiner for progressive and also future tense
pap stands for not verb + ing
pap also stands for will not
      Example:
      Mwen pap manje.
      I am not eating
      Mwen pap pale.
      I am not talking.
      Mwen pap vini.
      I will not come.
      Nou pap janm bliye.
      We will never forget
      Pa : not
Pa fè sa : do not do this.
      Pa manje : don’t eat
Mwen pa kapab: I cannot ...
      Hope this helps
