“It’s a small world” Haitian Creole lyrics
I recently translated ‘It’s a Small World’ into Haitian Creole following a delightful trip to Disney with my children, who absolutely adore the place. As a Haitian, I’m always on the lookout for a reflection of my culture and was pleased to find a significant Haitian presence there. To honor those, including some park employees who may not speak English, I’ve decided to translate a few Disney songs so they can also share in the joy of what people are singing.
it's a small word translated in Haitian creole.
Se yon ti mond.
Se yon mond komik
Plen ak dlo nan je
Se yon mond lespwa
Yon mond kè sote.
Nou gen twòp an kòmen
Li lè pou nou konnen
Lemon pitit tout bon vre
Lemond pitit tout bon vre
Lemond pitit tout bon vre
Lemond pitit tout bon vre
Lemond pitit tout bon vre
Gen yon sèl lalin
Yon solèy dore
Yon souri vle di n
Viv nan lamitye
Si mòn yo divize
Oseyan etatle
Lemond piti tout bon vre.
Lemond pitit tout bon vre
Lemond pitit tout bon vre
Lemond pitit tout bon vre
Lemond piti, piti, piti, tout bon vre.

This is actually quite amusing because Haitians have a flair for the dramatic. These men are simply saying ‘hello’ to each other, but they have linguistically transformed ‘hello’ into what you may hears as ‘hall_lhoo.’

Mastering the Haitian Creole alphabet is a vital step towards learning the language. Your proficiency in Haitian Creole will rely on how well you can retain what you've learned, understand the language patterns, and commit to regular practice. I hope this helps. ☺️

Are there 2 versions of the Haitian creole alphabet? I've heard 2 ways to pronounce the letters and I don't know which one to use

    • @learnhaitiancreole
      @learnhaitiancreole Před 4 měsíci

Thank you for the insightful question. The Haitian alphabet has undergone a minor but significant update. A few graphemes now bear new names: ‘g’ is now pronounced as ‘ga’ like in “gap,” ‘w’ is referred to as ‘wa’ akin to “wasp,” and ‘y’ is now called ‘ye,’ pronounced as “yay.” Moreover, the Haitian Creole alphabet distinguishes itself by not including front rounded vowels akin to the French “u,” and it omits the letters ‘q,’ ‘c,’ ‘y’ and ‘x,’ which are present in the French alphabet. I’m currently in the midst of editing a series of videos that will delve deeply into these changes. I apologize if my current explanation doesn’t fully capture the extent of the linguistic evolution due to time constraints. Rest assured, I aim to provide a detailed response and thorough pronunciation guide as soon as the editing process is complete.
