  • Welcome to Deefer Diving's new CZcams channel, D for Diving.
There are many people, scuba divers, who think about 'turning pro' and starting to work as a Divemaster. It's simple isn't it? You take a 3 week DM course and then you're off and running, right? Becoming a good divemaster is more than just completing the exercises and workshops required to pass the course... There is a significant mental gear change that is required to start to help you think like a dive professional. Here Nora and Gary explore some of the key mental challenges aspiring dive professionals will have to face as they prepare to become Divemasters.

Good video guys. A great look into the change in attitude and psyche that divers must undergo to become and functional and safe Divemaster!

Thanks Lyell.... It's helped that we've had 4 new DM's with us these past few weeks and this has been a big factor in our discussions and work. As they look back now and think about how they used to dive, the contrast is significant....

We love watching your videos! Especially when we catch a glimpse of ourselves on the dive boat! :-) Presently in Curaçao and thinking of doing our rescue diver course but missing the great team at Deefer! Cheers! Sophie and Richard on S/V PhiloSophie

Awesome Mike... I hope you have a great time and I hope the advice makes some sense when you start. Being a DM is 80% mental approach and attitude... Good luck

Does getting stung by a lionfish count as the entertainment Nora?

Were you entertained by Nora's stinging? (I know I was). So yes, we consider this all part of the experience :)
