- Welcome back! Today on the show we're driving a one-of-a-kind 1993 Mazda RX-7 FD3S imported from Japan. It's been built primarily for use on the track and puts down strong power thanks to a street port, bolt-ons, ECU and a fairly conservative dyno tune to keep it reliable (even after endless hours of high-RPM abuse!). Owner of my Fd since 1998. It currently has 426rwhp and is well setup. The car is a blast to drive. If you ever have the oppurtunity to drive one you will understand.
Did you do the turbo conversion yourself? Also what injectors are you running?
Single turbo divided manifold kit from Aspec and Kilo Racing built ths engine
Injectors are 850 primary and 1800 secondarily
Nice RX7! Is the whole pre-mix thing really necessary? You can still have a nicely tuned one and just use premium gas can't you? Is it just that you have to use a specific type of oil and top the oil off from time to time?
You can get away with no premix but if you are adding 100 plus hp to the car, adding premix will help with longevity of the engine.

Nice FD. If you want one, hurry up, the prices are rising like crazy. I somehow managed to buy stock RHD FD for 4500 pounds about 4 years ago. It's still working and making smiles :)
We both got on the ship before it sailed. 5 years ago modified FD for £3500 with 35k miles on clock :D
the last 2 years have been insane for the 90s japanese car market. I've seen 15k cars going for 25k, glad i got mine before things got to this point.
If it’s went for 25k then it’s not a 15k car but a 25k car
I like the FD , but my favorite is the FC . I love how it looks like a better Porsche 944 .

Once the engine is solidly rebuilt it should be pretty reliable (as far as it can be reliable) for many miles and lots of years, but only with good maintenance.

Paid 5500k for mine. Best purchase of my life. My 90 GTX is fun too but the FD takes the cake.

If it does not like part throttle under boost the tune is no good. Or there is other issues going on.
My Spirit running factory twins makes 438rwhp, anything above 400hp for street use is perfect.

Its a nice car, I have driven an FB, FC and FD but I prefer the FB. I never liked the super complicated fighter pilot interior. Too many gadgets inside, If there's going to be more gauges than submarine, I prefer them to be simple looking and apart of the center console.

The key to good fd exhaust tone is, have a single wastegate open dump. Or internal wastegate. Don’t go twin wastegate open dump. It sounds like shit. Trust me.

It’s funny how the Rx8 gets the worst reputation. A properly maintained S2 Rx8 can go well beyond 100k miles before needing rebuilt. I’m at 110k on my original engine in my 2011 R3. I’ll be buying a new off the shelf motor and modifying my original engine while rebuilding. I absolutely love my Rotary. I hope to someday get an FD and build a 3 rotor NA renesis to put in it. 😬😬😬😬

Car looks like junk. Pitted aluminum all throughout the engine bay, mismatched intercooler piping, missing interior pieces, and cheap aftermarket parts all around. Comeback with something better.
