    Contrary to popular belief, a "fairy tale ending" is NOT what interviewers are looking for when they ask you "Tell me a time You Handled a Difficult Situation." Even if you talk about how you resolved a conflict perfectly (which rarely happens), interviewers will often follow up with probing questions in order to find out your thought process.
    In order to provide a meaningful answer to "tell me about a time you handled a difficult situation, conflict, or challenge," you want to make sure you highlight the following two things in your answer:
    (1) You are able to listen to, and accept, other people’s point of views even if you have already formed your own opinion and;
    (2) You are able to put the needs of the business above your own when a conflict does arise in the workplace
    Whether you decide to talk about how you handled a workplace conflict, or a difficult situation outside of the professional environment, as long as you touch on those two areas using the CARL method, you will be good to go! This video also includes a full sample answer so you can come back and reference it at any time.

    Just one thing I think I should point out though! While there is a widespread cultural understanding of the concept of “face” (3:05) in Chinese and other Asian cultures, I’m not sure Westerners would have the same familiarity with this concept 🤔 I guess my suggestion would be to avoid using certain jargon that isn’t common knowledge? 😅

    Hi jeff, quick question, when answering interview questions, do you normally speak with such high levels of fluency (like the example answer segment of the video), if so, could you possibly share any tips that could assist in fostering such fluency when reciting an answer. May I also ask if you memorise the answers as prep for the interview or do you improvise the answer on the spot? (at least for typical interview qns and not special, tough ones and situational ones) PS loving the content so far, keep it up bro!

    • @JeffSu
      @JeffSu  Před 3 lety +54

      Hi Timed Stingray - This is a really good question. So I'm a firm believer of hardwork (I don't think I'm very smart) so when I was first prepping for interviews back in the day, I would literally memorize the answer and repeat it word-for-word. BUT as I soon found out, it comes off as very robotic. So when I practiced (in front of a mirror), I would simply only memorize 1-2 sentences for each part of CARL, then add in "spoken slangs" like "perhaps" "Ah of course" "Sure that sounds awesome" etc. Does that make sense? I even sometimes would pause or say "um" on purpose to make it sound more natural. Since I've been working for a while now and very very familiar with interviews (I interview others as well), I would write down the structure for my answers in these videos and adjust slightly as needed :). Hope this answers your question?
