This brings back so many memories for me, I was only 16 years old in 1971, I'm now 69 and still love listening to this haunting song. I was madly in love with the girl I would eventually marry. And this song sings the very words I felt at the time.
I served this great man when I was working as a young saturday boy at McFisheries supermarket on Kensington High St.London when this song was No1 in 1971. It was just before Xmas. I'm so sorry Labi for spoiling your two whole trout fish. I was new at the filleting game. Please forgive me. Thank you for the wonderful music.
Well from what I hear he has never forgiven you for that - AND NEVER WILL! Labi was a nice bloke - until somebody spoiled his fish supper. Then he turned into the Kray twins on steroids.
Yes! That's what it is. Thank you for your insight. I always knew that there was something indefinable in his voice and you have kindly defined it. Many thanks.
Memories of my youth I was 10 years of age when the song came out and I remember to this day exactly where I was and what I was doing this song I stayed in my heart and in my mind and in my soul ever since this song will never be bettered by anybody or anyone❤😊❤
***** Excellent that you got to be there! (Not so easy for the underemployed to jump over from New Jersey to England for ... anything!) I think I would well up with tears to hear him sing Something Inside So Strong live in concert... Can you clue us in about any new songs? Might you know whether anyone recorded any decent video that will get posted to CZcams from the show?
This is like Dear Prudence from the Beatles for me. I love their original version and the cover from Souixie and the Banshees each for what they individually bring to the song. The Souixie version happens to be one of my favorite covers of a song.
The royalties of the original would have diminished a lot before the big boost from Madness. The Venus composer from Shocking Blue got a much needed financial boost when Bananarama did their cover of Venus years later
So much better than the Madness version. It's a bit like a door that's been painted that many times - strip it down and you're left with the bare wood. It's also the same with I Think I Love You by the Partridge Family - the version on the Jackie Album is a bit overdone and a bit uptempo whereas the original version is much slower and something I really can't describe. But sometimes cover versions can work out good...like Mud's version of Buddy Holly's Oh Boy.
I agree apart from one bit. On the choruses I like the way Madness have that rising three note melody on the _"It must be"_ bits before it hits the word 'love'. Siffre's _"must be"_ notes are the same note as the 'love' note. Not quite as effective for me.
@epsteinsmutha1 And there was I thinking you were playing around with sexual ambiguity. Goes to show what kind of mind I have!! However, I am now mildly amused, so well done.
Mike Hunt Thought the same thing before reading your comment. What's with the continuous shot of his mouth, and watching him from behind and sideways-painful
Bless the bees and the birds? It is about a guy. Digger bees and a variety of birds engage in homosexual behaviour, apparently. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_birds_displaying_homosexual_behavior
+timtak1 "about a guy" for sure - Mr Siffre has been Out for decades. But, respectfully, you don't have to read references to animal homosexuality into it, nor limit the song's audience. The song's clearly intended to be enjoyed by anyone who would like to. Any other songs by gay folks which I don't already have in my playlists that you'd like to recommend, I'd be happy to hear from you. (Better to send my channel a message than to reply here.)
ONE OF THE GREATS OF BRITISH MUSIC UNDERATED LABI SIFRE.

Wow, how long were you together for?
Absolutely brilliant song. Madness made this song a huge success, but here’s where it came from 👏

Now there's a story.
Cute story take care❤
Well from what I hear he has never forgiven you for that - AND NEVER WILL!
Labi was a nice bloke - until somebody spoiled his fish supper. Then he turned into the Kray twins on steroids.
I had no idea that this was a Labi Siffre song,I grew up dancing to this with Madness singing it and never knew until now.
Labi's songs can't ever be improved by anyone else. He just has so much sincerity to his voice and tone.
Yes! That's what it is. Thank you for your insight. I always knew that there was something indefinable in his voice and you have kindly defined it. Many thanks.
No, but the Madness version is still very good in its own right.
Chibihalo2 and Labi must of approved of their version as he appeared in the video to it.
After almost 28 years of marriage, this perfectly describes how I feel about my wife. She's the best!
Are you kidding me/ Sir you’re a gem 💎!!!! She’s a lucky lady 🎉 bless you both always ❤
never knew Labbi was from hammersmith london, we were neighbours in the 70;s lol brilliant song loved it then and now
Gorgeous song. It's a litlle bit haunting, & jolly, at the same time. It pops into my head frequently.
🎉❤ Mary Tyler Moore dancing down the street ( LOL) such a happy tune 🎶
Loved the arrangement of the Madness version, But this is the REAL one & will never be surpassed. Just Beautiful!
Up until 3 days ago, I never ever heard of this guy.
very underated singer, great song , madness my arse !!
And mine. It took the piss out of a perfect song. I just hope it's given Labi a few quid to enjoy.
I definitely fell in love with this version of "It Must Be Love" long after discovering Madness' version in the 80's.
Reminds me of the Radio 1 Breakfast Show,as i got ready for primary school.
Memories of my youth I was 10 years of age when the song came out and I remember to this day exactly where I was and what I was doing this song I stayed in my heart and in my mind and in my soul ever since this song will never be bettered by anybody or anyone❤😊❤

Great song -- and a really good singer, too . . .
I never knew this guy was the original singer and writer of this song
superb a very young Labi !!
I love this, and Madness' version.
+MotoCrazy66 I am with you on that. Both versions are so beautiful that they almost make you cry with happiness just because you heard them.
Well, quite so!
+MotoCrazy66 Just heard today: He's performing November 8th in London.

Beautiful song..Labi Siffre❤Must be love ❤🎶xxx
Labi won't be unhappy with Madness success, it brings him in some sweet royalty fees as the song writer :)
He's in the video so he can't hate it.
The royalties of the original would have diminished a lot before the big boost from Madness.
The Venus composer from Shocking Blue got a much needed financial boost when Bananarama did their cover of Venus years later
great memories of the 70s
Just heard today: He's performing November 8th in London.
lovey old song.
broke my heart this song
Wonderful song! Thanks for posting.
Love his voice.... brilliant...

Labi Siffre - Watch Me
Mini Arca Check out our cover here such a tune so we had to cover it czcams.com/video/vL0CE5LQx3I/video.html

+Jessica Beveridge I like your words :)
So lovely
It must be ...hmm what rhymes with Love? Ah yes that's it...😎👍✌️
i cant believe this is the original. epic.
Madness version was ok but labis version hits it out of the park very impressive.
this is the only song which i luve done rwice
Love it!
Great pop record. One of the first records I ever bought and possibly *the* first. Not quite sure.
Lovely song
If this song was a piece of furniture,it would be a bench or a two seater sofa.xxxxx.
It'd be an It Must Be Loveseat
Also good for Labi, a great song writer who had to hide his sexuality because of the times
❤❤❤
Excellent
Love it
das war noch eine zeit, wo liebe was wert war...
👍top song
I wish I was the camera operator on this
Oh wow ya know Madness 😂
So much better than the Madness version. It's a bit like a door that's been painted that many times - strip it down and you're left with the bare wood. Jackie Album!!!! we're looking at a classic song here ..both by Labbie and Madness..not some 70's girl screaming rubbish
Love the door analogy. Perfect!
barbara anne cortina I prefer THIS VERSION , I WONDER what he is do now ?
barbara, you're a fool
"Nothing less "
Is that a young Bill Beaumont in the white shirt to Labi's right?
Knocks the Madness copy into a cocked hat.
The Madness version is good but this is by far the better version and I had no idea it was released the year I was born.
I agree apart from one bit. On the choruses I like the way Madness have that rising three note melody on the _"It must be"_ bits before it hits the word 'love'. Siffre's _"must be"_ notes are the same note as the 'love' note. Not quite as effective for me.
The original is pleasant enough but Madness’s cover is vastly superior in every way
No way both versions were great....and labbie happily appeared on the Madness video so must have been happy
melciveng erm....slight exaggeration
I know that its you I need to take the blues away
Merci vicky
original is best
Not Alot of people know this
If Obama and The Rock had a son..."Brock" lol
las 2 son buenas versiones , pero me quedo con la de Madness
@epsteinsmutha1 And there was I thinking you were playing around with sexual ambiguity. Goes to show what kind of mind I have!!
However, I am now mildly amused, so well done.
been burnin, Labi?
?
glassy red eyes
Maybe he was tearing up from how beautiful the song is or something
I have to confess, when I first heard this song, I always thought that Labbi Siffre was a woman.
For Jessica
For Jessica Olulola
Think the blonde girl luuurves labi
She won't score; he's VERY gay.
+wrsmycountrygone I thought that was a guy.
@epsteinsmutha1 I wouldn't bank on it. Anyway, this song was written by a gay guy, not a bi one.
Great song. Fucking awful camera work. Thanks.
Mike Hunt Thought the same thing before reading your comment. What's with the continuous shot of his mouth, and watching him from behind and sideways-painful
Hhgg

✌️
I really don't agree and I think Labi Siffre wouldn't either as he appeared in the Madness video
