    I changed depts. to get away from a harassing manager. She then kept tabs on me with frequent phone calls to my new manager, who got fed up and told her to quit calling. At another job, I changed my hours to get away from a co-worker/manager who was harassing me. Shortly after, the harasser changed her hours so we were working together again. Unreal! The new hours were inconvenient for her, but I guess stalking me was worth it? After some months, she went back to her old hours as I guessed that she would. What in the world causes people to go out of their way to pester people?

  • @TravelBits222

    There is no law against harassment at work and the perpetrators know this very well, that’s why they are having a field day doing it. They do not care, they know the lack of laws gives their target nothing to protect themselves. Until a clear law comes up, good people will suffer greatly. People who are not in a “protected group”, have no protection.

    A co-worker has been harassing me and making passive-aggressive remarks/comments toward me for about a year or so. Management has been notified of these reoccurring comments/incidents and said they would talk to her. I was never sat down for a follow-up afterward to confirm this "sit down" or told that this co-worker has been talked to and told to stop harassing me. This co-worker has spread rumors about me and told a server that she enjoys “messing with me.” on July 4th she screamed my name in the kitchen “somebody tell jamie to grab ice” she then proceeded to say that this was my running side work and that I’m responsible for grabbing ice when there was also 3 other servers assigned to this specific side work. I have taken a picture of the team sheet as proof to show it was not only me with this side work to prove that she was specifically coming at me. She then proceeded that she was going to "knock the shit out of me" during our dinner rush in the middle of the kitchen. She has gotten other co-workers to also engage in this harassment towards me. About 5 minutes after the incident with this co-worker, her friend got in my face and started to clap her hands near my face. She told me that nobody here likes me and that I am useless as a worker here. I do not feel safe working in this type of working environment. The next day I was taken off the schedule around 3 pm. The other 2 individuals had also been removed and then reinstated. I was told that I would not be put back on the schedule until the Store Manager talked with me. Which I had difficulty setting up a mutual time with him. I came in with my mother as a support system and he refused to talk and meet with me unless she was not present with us. He also told us that he “only had 10 minutes to talk” because he had an MVA meeting and this was basically dipping into his vacation time. The store manager told me during the meeting that all of us get fired or all of us ignore each other and keep our jobs. I feel that it is unfair that I would lose my job because of this situation that I did not provoke. HR told me that they would make the store manager write up official/formal documentation of this incident. I would like to know how I can go further with this and I would like to know what my rights are in this type of situation.

      I would also like to add that I am scared to leave my car parked in my establishment's parking lot. I feel like they would vandalize it in some way. I feel that I have to park my car outside of the parking area. I am also scared to leave my water bottle out or my food in any open space for fear that they would do something to it. I have been waking up crying, and going to bed crying, I am absolutely miserable over this and it is affecting me outside of work. I have to ask my manager to check out my closing side work instead of my co-workers in fear of the way they will react or treat me.

    • @JimmyJaxJellyStax
      @JimmyJaxJellyStax Před rokem +8

      Very true, the large corporations handle harassment like a champion from my experience. The small companies often have a patronizing HR. It might feel uncomfortable but letting management know anyways is key - it's always going to be somewhat uncomfortable when you know someone is very likely going to get fired for sure. Surprised what I've overheard in gossip about other individuals sometimes - like a dark-triad personality singling out a "unique" individual in hopes of them quitting - the workplace bullies really do try to push others to quit. Some even get too comfortable and start making violent jokes about specific individuals - hardly appropriate and honestly still a threat to be humoring such scenarios.

      How did it go? Not legal advice but another way of doing this is by texting or emailing management what might be happening in the workplace. That way there's physical evidence of the employee and management having communication about a problem at work instead of management denying or forgetting it if they were asked about it in the future. It also makes management take the complaint more seriously and more likely to do something about it in case the employee decides to sue them later on or escalates to violence. Texting or emailing management also takes the awkwardness away from talking about it in person.

    I dealt with that at jersey Mike's in virginia. The supervisor and the managers kept saying weird creepy homosexual things to me and other coworkers, touching us inappropriately. The supervisor tried to have a meeting at my house for a promotion and i was like hell no. And then all of a sudden my training process got slowed down. And then they made some young kid manager and then i heard the kid going to a hotel with the supervisor. So you know what that implies they are doing sexual favors for promotion. The job would also hire family members and friends which is a conflict of interest. Their family and coworkers were lazy and wouldn't do the work and would still keep getting paid. And they would make me do all the work.

    • @edhones
      @edhones  Před 2 lety +2

      Age is a protected characteristic if the person is over 40 years old. So, being harassed for being a Boomer might qualify as harassment on the basis of age. Whether or not the harassment rises to the level of Hostile Work Environment will depend on the elements I outlined in the video. For instance, who is the harasser? Does the employer know about the conduct? How severe or persistent is the harassment? Did the harassment impact the victim's ability to do their job?

      @@edhones Some millenials will be turning 40 every year between 2021 and 2036. It seems constitutionally (14th, equal protection) unfair to say it's harassment to descriminate against "age", rather than specify that it's not "age" descrimination, it's 40+ adult descrimination. I mean, if it's legally allowed to harass people about their age, for being under the age of 40.
      But it's happened. To me and many others. I've seen the battle lines across national news. Results in lowered morale, lost job and general living opportunities, lost respect for peers and avoidance tactics, a general fear of being written off as expendable.
      It sounds like it's a case-by-case situation, where it centers around how offended an individual becomes, rather than how offensive the action(s) had been.

      I really hope that the age discrimination laws change. A lot of millennials, myself included, have been taunted and demeaned for being the youngest person on the team. I believe that I was involved in age discrimination because my manager talks down to me and treats me like a little kid, even though I have not given off any impression of being naive or immature. My manager always says things like, “millennials are lazy, they lack ambition,” and complains about hiring millennials. It’s sickening that the law doesn’t protect against younger employees. My understanding, which may not be correct, is that 'at will' employment policies negate any claims of hostile work environment, even if explicitly stated in the employment manual.

    Lord help me I'm going through this now today I have a meeting at 11:00 to decide if I can return back to work I've been bullied for 2 weeks by a group of women who have been at the job between 27 years and 15 years get exploded Friday they were yelling at me in front of a lot of people saying we don't want you here we don't like you nobody likes you nobody wants you and I'm sorry and I snapped I cursed out really really bad in front of everybody because I felt like in front of everybody she was embarrassing me and belittling me I let my ego get the best of me however I spoke to you a few people at work and they already knew what been going on for 2 weeks and I've been secretly quietly ignoring them and doing my job sometimes smiling at them when I see them just to show them that you're not getting me out of here however the lady in HR has been there 27 years with them they have history their friends fall beyond the workplace and I just don't know what to do today I'm going to remain calm and want to listen

    You have to up your game, perfect your interview skills, and work for a company that has a good reputation.
    A job that is too easy to get means that employer does not conduct thorough personality assessments. Especially if they have a high turnover rate, that’s a red flag 🚩
    You will find the most bullies in retail, fast food, and in security guarding. You also find them frequently in receptionist positions, RN positions, and ironically enough, in HR divisions.
    Call centers and cashier positions are the worst because you get bullied by hundreds of customers a day.
    It’s better to take into consideration what your company values are, bigger corporations seem to have better work environments. Ensure the company does not have a history of employee lawsuits against it.
    Lastly, make sure you understand the kind of customers you will be dealing with. Fast-pace consumers are the worst kinds of customers.

    Can work force you to be on medication just because you suffer from PTSD? And are they supposed to know your health info. Please let me know, I'm having trouble at work and I've worked here for over 24years already.

    I know this sounds like a dumb question, but I just want to see if the word "compensation" means "pay" when reading RCW.49.60.180(3)? Sometimes legal wording can throw me off.
    I don't want to get too specific, but I do a job where my pay is a daily salary. It was understood when hired that I would be compensated for doing the job no matter how long it took it me to do so. I learned to do my job flawlessly while completing it in half the amount of time my coworkers completed theirs. They are upset that I'm efficient and think I should have to do more for no extra money, or compensation.

    I know this video 2 years old and you might not reply. But if I’m listening correctly and if I apply this means if a owner(black) emphasizes daily that “he don’t have a good standing or liking in black people because they fuck him over the most” even operations supervisor says that and other supervisors actively act or show that does that mean workplace harassment is at play? It includes factors as implying someone is drinking when then don’t even drink like ever just to make the workplace uneasy and to defame such person

    I'm a gay man, I had a girl as a friend and I complimented her boobs. Weeks later we had an issue not related to my compliment and now we're not friends. She then goes to work and reports me for sexually harassing her. Just because we're not friends anymore she did that

    • @Yarrg
      @Yarrg Před 8 měsíci

      Hey Daniel just a heads up. I don't know if you'll get this message. It's funny my mom and I are both both fierce right-wing conservatives. however, we have gay friends in my mom's neighborhood. We agree to disagree on certain political things. But we like these people a lot. one of them. Bob has humor like that. He is just kind of humor like that and we joke. Because there are friends. if she wouldn't report it. You for that and acted all high-and-mighty and self. Righteous, the thing was she never really was your friend. What she was was a snake. A snake with a mask, so you have to understand that's her that's her being wicked. I have no II have no doubt you were just joking and being silly. We're all grown-ups here. What she did was vicious, malicious evil and wrong. Trust me when I tell you. You don't want pieces of c*** like that in your life. You are so much better off without her. They say it's like the trash taking itself out. I'll step it up one, it's more like a self flushing toilet. You know those toilets at the rest. Stop when you go and pop a squat. Then you stand up and it flushes itself if she left your life. That's exactly what needs to happen. Keep your chin up bro. I'm sorry that happened to you.
