❓How long have you been a follower of this channel? Let me know in the comments!
Something like 8 years, time flies! You are among the first CZcamsrs I found when I started learning a language through the internet.
I used the mini-stories, they are great. Now for different reasons, I learn through input mainly: videos with subtitles and transcriptions.
Gratulation zu Ihrer Arbeit und zum tollem Erfolg, ich folge ihrem Kanal seit 2017 :)
Hi Steve, if you study through all 60 mini stories, listening and reading repeatedly, how many words can you expect to know? Is it reasonable to start speaking with a tutor after that? I’m curious because I know you said you like to have approximately 5-10 thousands words known before engaging in conversation with one.
@@JourneyDestination this depends on the language, but in principle, yes. I have done so. You will struggle at first and gradually improve.
Steve, if there is one channel about language learning I have been watching every single week over the last 10 years, that is yours. Keep shining and sharing your wisdom. And congrats on 1M subs 🥰
Very kind of you to say that look up. As they say in Japanese お互い様です。we should have a conversation here sometime when it works for you
Let's go Steve! Congrats on 1 mil subs!
well deserved
I know, right? Hard to believe how long Steve has been doing this. Absolute unit in the language world. A worthy reward plaque!
Discovered him thanks to you, love the content ❤
The 2 Bests polyglot vodcaster. Thank you 🙏 🎉
Steve, I have been following your content for years. When I first started learning Spanish at 15 (I am now 23), I first had to learn HOW TO LEARN a language! I knew nothing about language aquisition. I can proudly say that I can now speak fluent Spanish, Catalan and Italian. I am also currently working/studying as a translator in Spain. You were such a big part of my success and there is no doubt in my mind that if it were not for your videos that taught and motivated me as well as LingQ, the best language learning tool that exists, I would never had reached this level of success. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you, thank you! Congrats on 1 million, you deserve it.
Can I ask you please, Steve said he never listens to films in the target language (in my case Spanish) and reads sub titles in the target language at the same time. I do this all the time. Am I wasting my time doing this? should I put Engish sub titles on? (but I dont want to read English) or no subtitles at all?
@@marionexley607 My take on this goes like this. If you are going to watch a movie in your target language, there is no shame in turning on subtitles in the target language. However, I would not activate subtitles in any other language than the target language for learning purposes. I say this because our brain always tries to do the easiest thing. Reading subtitles in English for a Spanish movie won’t help as much because that’s mostly what your brain would focus on. Once in a while, it can be good practice to not turn on subtitles at all so you can train your ear. Try alternating! Don’t be afraid to watch the same scene 15 times haha!
One thing I must say about movie dialogue is that it has to be interesting and therefore can often be complex or even unnatural. It’s full of expressions, idioms, slang, etc etc. depending on the movie of course. This can complicate things and when learning a foreign language, it can be intimidating or frustrating! Don’t worry. Spend time with the language. Watch all kinds of content. Most importantly enjoy the process and have fun!
I'm 15 and just learning Spanish😅
What a coincidence!
@@czechguy665 I'm 49 and learning Spanish! I've only been learning for 8 months though.
Im 27 and learning English😊
1 million subscribers! Awesome work, Steve.
Thank you for answering my question and congrats again! 10 months for Chinese is insanely impressive but i guess it does help when its for your job 😅
I enjoy watching your CZcams channel. I study several languages from Ancient Greek to Polish to French and more. I am 71 years old and draw much encouragement from your instruction.
Its amazing that more senior people are finding success in youtube. Theres a lot of wisdom to be share by people like Steve.
steve先生❤本当に素晴らしい先生です。
いろいろ教えてくださってどうもありがとうございます。😊
Félicitations à vous et à votre programme, excellent.
Merci, Merci, Merci.
I remember your first videos ❤ Congratulations 🎉🎉
Congratulations! You really are the GOAT of language learning. Humble and realistic and so full of practical wisdom.
Steve, I read your book this year. I never expected it to be such an adventure, so enjoyable, so well-written! I must say, I loved it!
Should be Turkish in cc list as you already speak it Mr. Kauffman 🧿
Congrats from Japan!
I always on your side.
Keep going on your pace.
Biggest of congrats to Steve, Mark and the LingQ team! I have found it very beneficial to watch whatever I normally watch in English on youtube (which I would be doing anyway) while reading along in target language subtitles (I've done this for French and Hebrew so far; I hope to one day be doing this in Greek and Arabic). Since I read Hebrew more slowly than French, I slow the English audio to 75%. It sounds a bit odd at first, but I adjust. Actually, the subtitle timing is off for this video, so use another one to try it.
Well deserved! Big inspiration Steve. I'm currently in Montreal on a trip from Vancouver and its big motivation to follow in your footsteps and pick up french :)
As I'm starting my third year of learning Japanese, your kind words and sound advice have kept me going. It would be so easy to beat myself up when I don't remember things, even when I know I know them - so frustrating! But I keep going, and I am seeing progress. I love learning Japanese. I look forward to studying every day, and I have a wonderful teacher. Thanks for your realistic and encouraging advice, Steve!!
Congratiolation's from Brazil👏👏👏!
What I appreciate the most, is the message that language learning can be not stressful and that we can be confident that we will succeed.
Recently, the channel seems to have been going in a new direction, with lots of insight into language learning, and about the science behind it, I find that kind of content very interesting.
Congratulations, Steve!! You deserve this and future milestones so much! 😊
Congratulations Steve and thank you for everything, I appreciate you very much... I wish you the best for the rest of your life.
Congratulations Steve! Thanks for all the helpful videos over the years.
I have been following you for a few months. I come to your channel to get motivation and encouragement to keep going in my pursuit of Arabic. Thank you for your help!
Hi Steve. Am so happy to hear this. Congratulations for achieving 1 Million subscribers. Keep up!
I’m so proud of you, congratulations Steve. You’re an inspiration
Congrats! Keep doing what you do. It's a great help and inspiration.
You’re the Best Steve!
Congratulations!!!!! I've been on CZcams since the early days in 2006. Wish I had found you much sooner, but huge kudos for keeping at it for so long!
Congratulations on reaching 1 million subscribers. I found your channel and LingQ almost 10 years ago. I learned Russian to a high level both watching videos here and using LingQ. Lately I have been importing about a video a day to read through on LingQ. I don’t need subtitles as often now, so I usually watch the video on my TV. Since I watch a lot of videos I tended for native speakers, I’m finding that the AI in the LingQ system is doing a good job fixing the mistakes automated subtitles.
Hey, congratulations! 🎉🎈Followed you since 2013. So proud and delighted for you! ❣️
Congratulations Steve! I’ve been following your content for a decade and can honestly say your insights have profoundly influenced the trajectory of my language learning. Wishing you all the best 🎉🎉
I'm getting my first paper Mandarin Chinese book, I've been learning the language for 2 years now, I never had a teacher, I only use LinQ and hellotalk

Congratulations Steve! You are an inspiration to all of us!
Congratulations, Steve. You deserve it for sure. You’re the best polyglot nowadays. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about learn language with us. Back in the day when I started to learn English, about 3 years ago, I couldn’t watch your videos, but after 1 year I could it , even so I didn’t understand too much, I started watching your videos and literally I’ve watched every single video. Thank you so much for everything.
Steve, thank you so much for answering my question. Of course I also asked because I would just love to see how you would tackle Latin and ancient Greek. Many thanks for all your wonderful and always inspiring videos, and again, congratulations on achieving 1 million subscribers.
Congratulations Steve! I love watching your videos and hearing about your experiences and language learning tips. LingQ has helped me so much with Japanese and Italian and soon I plan to use it to start learning Spanish. Thanks again!

CONGRATULATIONS 💞
YOU FINALLY DID IT ✨👀
Congratulations. You deserved it
Congratulations Mr.Steve 🤓🥳
Thank you for being such an inspiration, I am a compulsive reader too!! God bless you!!
Congratulations!🎉
Excellent video! Language learning is such a personal thing, and there really is no wrong reason to learn a language.
I'm a language learner with 2 small children, so I understand having to squeeze in language learning in 10-20 minute increments! I still see progress though, and it's still worth it.
Lastly, this theory of benign neglect is a real thing. I recently started learning Korean, and I realized that my Russian is actually pretty darn good! And it was super easy speaking Russian to my tutor (compared to my Korean)!
Love your videos, Steve, and thanks for being an inspiration.
Thank you, really love your content. Discovered your channel recently thanks to Language Simp. Love the concepts and the idea of lazyness, followinf the current with the least frictions (eg forcing a flashcard study vs reading naturally) and being confortable with a bit of chaos. Letting go of the need for security and confort ❤
登録者百万人おめでとうございます㊗🎉👏🏻💪🏻

Obrigado pela meu senhor. Estou em Moçambique mais a sua experiência tem me ajudado.
Keep going! You're an inspiration for a lot of people!
4:19 I believe the question was referring to speaking early as a baby in general, not necessarily a second language.
Parabéns Steve você é uma grande inspiração a milhares de pessoas no mundo!!
Congratulations ! From India, Please visit India, and learn English,, Please, don't avoid Hindi language. You are inspiration for all your subscribers .
Really,Grand Old Man of You Tube.
Bien joué Steeve !!
My CONGRATULATIONS, STEVE 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks so much
You are cool!
Congrats on 1 million subs you are the (kauf)MAN(n)!!
Congratulations Steve. Learning Levantine Arabic, you must be exposed to a lot of media from that part of the world. Probably showing things that aren't included in a lot of mainstream western media. This is one of the great things about learning any foreign language.
Given this, how has this impacted your view of the situation in Gaza?
Congrats. I've been following you since 2015. I'm sought of a failed language learner at this point. I have every tool in my toolbox to combat language learning, but still find it very difficult to read in a foreign language with a good amount of speed even with lingq. Living in Tokyo for the past 5 months and studying japanese everyday for 4 months there's a lot of "bite in this dog" thanks to you!
Another foreigner living in Japan who can't speak Japanese. Thanks for giving us all a bad name because of your laziness and ineptitude
best language channel ever
Felicidades , saludos desde Venezuela ❤
Thank you 🎉🎉🎉
I need this book!!
