DELETING the GAS TANK on a Jeep Wrangler JL!
Vložit
- čas přidán 8. 07. 2023
- After breaking the factory 4:1 transfer case on our Jeep Wrangler JLUR, we’ve decided it’s the perfect excuse for a total Jeep rebuild. So we’re swapping from the 3-link rear suspension to a triangulated 4-link, which means…we have to completely delete the factory gas tank and install a relocated Motobilt fuel tank instead! Easy enough…until we get sidetracked by all the additional damage and surprises our Jeep has!

For anyone else that does this kit in the future, I used the Diablo brand oscillating tool adhesive scrapers to remove that rear tray (found them at Home Depot). Took 10 minutes with minimal mess. I also had issues with the push to connect fittings Motobilt supplied, so I switched to AN line as well. I used Vibrant Performance Fuel Adapter Fittings 16921 for the fuel pump to AN line, and Russell Fuel Rail Fitting Adapters 640940 to go from AN line to the stock fuel line "quick disconnect." Final comment, I *think* the stock JL fuel pump evap fitting is a SAE J2044 QD connector. I have not confirmed that, but it seems to be close.
I'll miss seeing Bec doing the tech and build videos with Chris. Loved those videos with Chris and Bec, too bad she's gone from Lite Brite Nation!
They tell anyone why Bec is gone?
There’s no future for bec on the channel. She was an apprentice, has taken what she’s learned and now has a good paying job. We’re no longer taking in any builds so there’s no way for her to make money. We will be focusing on our own personal builds which was always the original plan. We had to take customer builds in so she could get paid and during that time ALL of our vehicles got neglected and that’s not acceptable. So we went back to the original plan of just having chris as our friend and personal fabricator. Bec was never in the plans and we tried to adapt to make it work with 2 people but that’s didn’t end up working out so now back to the original plan. Bec had 4-6 months notice of this change and that time has now come and gone.
I know I’ve missed seeing y’all’s rigs getting built or worked on during that time. I’m glad and definitely understand y’all’s decision. Glad to see (y’all’s rigs back into the shop spot light”
Thank you for an actual explanation to why she was poof gone .
That makes more sense, and answers most of the What Happened To Bec.
So, she was Chris’ girlfriend until she was not and shit got weird. Someone had to go and it was not gonna be Chris. Too bad it did not work out. Still love the channel.
Stepchild 3.0 is going to be even more awesome than it was before! And as I recall from a previous video, you were thinking the stepchild was pretty close to perfect. So it will be very exciting to see how much better it is at the 3.0 version.
It's finally happening 😃!!! So glad the parts finally came in, have a blessed Sunday guys ❤️❤️💯🤙
Chris could totally fab up some old school fender headers that run into side pipes that double as rock rails
this has been a fun build series to watch!! the end will be sweet!
Hey Chris, remember the first time working on a non-NY vehicle!! It was almost as pleasant as an orgasm!! Lmao.. not having to replace all bleeders on the calipers, or replacing all the fuel/brake lines everytime you had to work on something. My first time was replacing rotors and pads.. i had the grinder, the drill/tap set and then.... everything broke loose and worked as it should!!!! It was amazing.
I sold all the vehicle's i bought down and bought new/used southern vehicles.. never again will i buy a rust bucket. Ppl ask me why i crawl below every vehicle i look at.. i was shocked they said they never have before and never thought to look under the vehicle!!! 😂😂 oh how the times have changed from having to bondo the rockers, fenders and all that, or if you were broke like me, zip tied and tuct taped everything after filling it with Great Stuff to keep the form!! Lmao
To think about all of the places that the StepChild has taken you and then seeing that bed pump 🫣. That looks great, thanks so much for sharing this!! That EVAP filter , poor little guy 😂. Much love guys ❤️❤️💯🤙
This is going to be one heck of learning curb and rebuild for all of us! Thanks for bringing us along! Happy Trails to all at LBN!
C-U-R-V-E, as in learning, not "curb". It's a learning curve, which can be shallow or steep, but there is NEVER a learning CURB.
@@johngalt7733 ...guess he's not invited to the "Gulch", eh?
How do these guys only have 250k subscribers? I watch million plus channels that can’t keep my attention like this group of people.
Quality over quantity!
A lot of people watch the videos but they don’t subscribe
It's interesting to watch the rabbit hole of a build of this level. Pretty surprising that tank kit still fit it as well as it did. The stepchild is a JL only in theory at this point.
That was fun! Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing.
This tank works great on the diesel as well. The fittings that Motobilt supplies don’t work. You can order more fuel line and actually use all the factory fittings. They are push in style fittings. Takes some force but doable. I cut the tray out leaving the glued in edge. Then came back with a thin scraper that I heated up and melted to glue to remove the remaining plastic lip. That glue is no joke!
Honestly, I am now more interested in getting some of that rubber mounting tape that held that tub in place. That's good stuff.
Another great segment guys. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Chris.... for reminding me I live in the rust belt and you don't. :)
Im glad yall came back to the build, cars are cool but this channel was built on off road adventures and upgrades welcome back
We haven’t done a car video in like 8 months. 🙂
I enjoy all of your builds and videos. I would like to give a shout out to my good friend Tony Pellegrino of GenRight who came up with the concept of putting aluminum gas tanks in our Jeeps. He started out in 2006 and built the first tanks that would allow you to go to about a 100 inch wheel base on your YJ and TJs. These tanks included a cut in the tanks for the rear end to fit. This was the start of his very successful company. So many companies have followed with his designs. By the way, I do not think that is bad.
I have this setup and it's awesome. I did do the Motobilt frame chop at the same time. Mine is a JKU and double triangulated. Lesson learned with this setup protect you driveshaft yoke because it hangs there as a target.
You are blessed to have Chris and Bec to rebuild what you damage and make it better. Lite Brite Team.
Just chris. Well chris and Kevin.
Is Bec no longer on the channel?
No, she’s gone.
@@LiteBrite That's too bad, she was awesome!
@@LiteBrite Hey Brittany don’t be a Blonde and Bring Becky back
The in-ur-end-o counter flat-out melted down around the 32 minute mark. Well done, Chris. Well done.
Build 3.0 is coming together nicely. Can't wait to see more of the Build.
3.0 is coming along great!! Very nice tank setup they have and could be used as a second tank! Definitely need exhaust cutouts!!😃
@Motobilt really well made products. I wish they supported us guys with the old CJ jeeps. I do envy you guys with the newer rides' parts availability.
Whatever you’re paying him, it’s not enough!!! Great video and even more awesome engineering from “The Mechanic” aka Chris the machine!!!!
If we could pay him a million plus a year, we would. ❤️
So awesome to see that rig getting rebuild! I believe that mystery stuff is actually dog food 😂
Kev I would check with Next Venture and see if they can make a plastic skid for the tank and just glue it on the tank skid with body panel glue it’s super strong
...you can't have enough skid plates under that 'exposed' tank.
Love this kinda content from you guys. Everyone chipping in on the step child is just a warm fuzzy feel, once again gold as always! Stay safe and Crazy :) #LiteBriteNation
Let’s think about this for a minute… how did Kevin get a woman like Brittany to live in a Jeep for 3 years?
Let me flip the question, how did Brittany get lucky to get a hunk like Kevin and a sweet jeep?
I’d say we’re both pretty blessed to have found our ride or dies & built a rad life together. 🥰
Match Made in Heaven

@@gregoryh4601 that will do 8t every time
Yes, do the exhaust with the valve for loud and normal.
Although the sound without headers is awsome, a large diameter set of exhaust pipes would make much more sense. Winter and mud are real.
For my installation, i just cut out the bottom part/tray itself and left top part of the tray attached to the metal bidy alone. Placed silicone under the metal fuel tank plate in the trunk and its working fine for now.
Thank you for the more indepth videos. I commented a while back about doing this and I don't know if this is why or what but it is much appreciated.
More fun in the DayCare! Y’all are so silly sometimes LoL! Need a power wash? Chris, you are a fabricating and innovating genius. So much dirt, so little time! Only five years of accumulation. That sound! The burble of the open exhaust is Killer! Nice outfit Brit! LiteBriteNationFlagsAnew!
@21:45 I don't even remember how to GET to my cabin air filters on a JK lol
Mel from Brooklyn no need to apologize its true
The stepchild growls like a lion. Sounds mean.👍
Chris, thank you for your “training” info update. Oh and you need another “protégée”. Y’all could call it the Lite Brite Nation Joat (Jack of All Trades) School. 😁
For that tub an oscillating multitool would cut that right out, I work on houses and use one to cut into tight spots and they cut wood, nails, metal studs all clean cut and with no problem. Blades add up quickly tho.
Edit: oh you guys got one anyway lol
I love how the tank sounds like a drum
As usual, came for the thumbnail and stayed for the video 😂
These thumbnails recently are killing it. Automatic Like everytime. 👍
Britney.... This jeep has been through hell and back.
Kevin.... This jeep let me go up the back door and didn't resist!
Kevin’s face when fired it up at the beginning! Like a kid who got his first BB gun for his birthday. Loved it!
you guys need some ice cold beers, this a total Saturday beer drinking project.... lol love it
Hope motobuilt works out a gas tank relocation for the new broncos… besides being in a shitty spot, the 2-door tank is only 15 gallons 😑
And here I thought 17.5 in the 2 door Wrangler was bad...My Corvette holds over 18 gallons. There is no excuse for vehicles like these to have such small fuel tanks.
@@ZboeC5 couldn’t agree more, especially when they get less than 20mpg
lol @6:25 "We are so far off..... to a great start." hehehehe
Rear mounted cell is badass! Seriously makes me want to do that to my JKU!!!
You sure that radiator hose is gonna last? Doesn't that have to be fuel resistant hose?
We’ve ordered some. The hose will be ok for now
@@LiteBrite 👍👍
You guys need to get a transmission jack to use when on the lift.
Looks like guitar string or the harbor freight window removal tool would help a lot with that. After the center is cut out.
NICE WORK WHERE IS BECA ?????

That thumbnail got me clicking sooo fast.😂😂😂😂 I say go for it!
Hi all, I noticed that you used coolant hose on the fuel fill hose, It's going to deteriorate from the fuel and will be a terrible problem later on. I would hate to see fuel leaking all over the trails, or worse catching on fire and burn down the jeep!
On another note.. isnt Kev the one ALWAYS preachin about cleaning a cabin air filter😂😂😂
Getting that tray out was quite the undertaking, lol
Great Upgrade Guys!
Can't wait for the video where Kevin knocks a hole in the fuel tank. Or hangs up so bad he has to be winches out. Going to order my popcorn now for this coming event😂😂😂😂
I love my Handy Flag. I have it because of your channel!
41:10 the look on the face of a child when his expectations are exceeded
9:45 - does that mean this Jeep is a “candy ass?”
Thank you I love all you videos and you guys are awesome
Those small round clusters looked like old M&Ms or Skittles.
Where is the Beer fridge and couch / TV / Stereo system and Grill ?
If you have a P00546 code it happens when you change the battery for some reason, I learned that after i deleted the auxiliary and replaced the main. Deleted the DTC with the tazer. My 18 has 82k miles and i need to upgrade do much. Right now i live through you guys lol
For future reference I used a Sawzall with a scraper blade on it the rubber and storage pan came right off
I also installed a MotoBilt rear fuel tank....I have a problem with the fuel gauge...it does not show the correct fuel level. And right now there is no solution!! waiting to see if you might have a solution.
Is it reading too high, too low? We haven’t gotten that far yet (still trying to wrap up suspension).
@@LiteBrite The reading is too low... about the first 10 gallons... it doesn't give anything. The gauge constantly shows full. A little before reaching a quarter of the tank.. the gauge gives a warning of low fuel. I am waiting for an answer from the technical department.🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
@@Gabi4x4 The tank is deeper than the factory unit and the float/arm can only move so far. You can extend the rod to give it more range of motion and bend it down so it reaches further down and shows a more accurate position to when it truly is almost empty.
Its going to look awesome guys
I rarely watch youtube on headphone, but I choose the good one to do so 🔊🔊🔊💯
i liked this vid lots of stuff goin on. i was talkn to u guys to use an OSCILLATING tool lol!! i oike the rhino liner but would have used on outside as well thats what its for, n used the left over rubber n glued inside, nice touch usin on the straps tho!
You should get a plexi cover to show off the bling
Great 👍 content and Thanx for Sharing
Have a Great Day 👍
God Bless America 🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸
That 2 minutes was not wasted. Lol
I vote for open headers 😊
The exhaust sounded like that ferrari in the movie Feris Bueller Day Off
Hey Kevin, just run the exhaust up through the hood. Zoomy style with flappers. 🙃
*Cleetus style lol
Whatever Chris gets paid, you need to double it 😂
If we could pay chris a million a year we would
@@LiteBrite Sorry to hear it. Good luck with everything.
Sorry to hear about Bec.. But that's Life
Great video thank you!
corrosive mystery stuff kinda looked like dog food lol
That rad hose will brake down over a short amount of time
So you don't have to have the wheels and tires on for the engine to start and run? 50+ years dang it 😆
Mentos... The Fresh Maker!
Put some of that plastic on the bottom of the tank shield just in case
Is it gonna be gas friendly 🤯

How cook is that😂
And some of us know the Brit and Kev story... cause we have been here from the beginning.. like proposal and all🎉
I want to know why there’s so many rude comments about you guys, you seem like amazing people and so many people dream of meeting you. On that note. Will you be at great American crawl at SMORR this coming weekend? Would love to meet you!
With success comes haters, and there’s definitely people out there that really hate that we became successful. 😊 Most of them don’t know us or haven’t met us though, so they’re inconsequential to our lives. Especially since we’re living our (and most others’) dream life. ❤️ Unfortunately we won’t be at SMORR, though! We’ll be in Colorado off roading for Kevin’s birthday!
@@LiteBrite I’d love to get to do what you guys do! hopefully I’ll meet you guys one day! Happy birthday to Kevin have fun!
That's so cool need to replace the sending unit in my yj. Any recommendations. God bless take care.
Why not use a fuel bladder that can be shaped to fit in that areastill giving y'all the additional fuel capacity.
See you at the Jeep invasion, Ronnie from Georgia.
Sweet flag definitely getting one since I know I’ll need one anyway.
You've never heard of a Skittles leak ?
Look it up 😂
strange how they make a place to put the tank but terrible plan on where to run the fill hose
I wonder if I gotta do that to my tundra since I added a 42 gallon tank 🤔🤔
The gold is an anti rusting coating metalcloak uses on alot of their products
I'm curious why you didn't fix the rust 2" away from where you deleted the tank and primed and painted the open area? Love the vids!
3.0 is looking good. But I wonder if Kevin ended up on the floor after some of his comments to Britney.
