Xiaomi HyperOS Launcher | Tips & Best Features

  • Xiaomi's HyperOS launcher is here, I've been testing it on the Poco X6 Pro 5G, and here's my review of the best features. While Hyper OS is very similar vs MiUI, you will find it's sleeker and smaller in size. And you also get all of the greatest features ported over, so your Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco phone will be packed with great tools.
    Note that several existing phones like the Xiaomi 13 and 13T series will be updated to this HyperOS launcher imminently. While fresh phones like the Poco X6 and X6 Pro either come with it out of the box, or will again get that update soon.
    Customisation is a key quality of Hyper OS. You can tweak and design your lock screen, always on display (not always on here sadly) and much more besides. Plus, Xiaomi's HyperOS offers a strong selection of gesture controls, including a screenshot and camera shortcut.
    Speaking of cameras, the app here is also customisable so you can favour certain modes. HyperOS also dishes up plenty of battery features, and if I didn't cover your favourite bits here - let me know! My review of the Redmi Note 13 series and Poco X6 Pro is live right now, expect more Xiaomi content in the coming month. And those Hyper OS updates are rolling out now.

  •  Před 4 měsíci +95

    That is pretty much still MIUI just with a different name (and maybe better performance on newer models). From what you showed it is also easy to assume that the Global version, just like with MIUI, is going to be severely lacking in comparison to the Chinese one when it comes to customization options.

      @carloareaser Před 4 měsíci +5

      why is the chinese version getting more stuff?

    •  Před 4 měsíci +14

      @@carloareaser I have no idea but it has been like that since before HyperOS and MIUI 14. Basically the Chinese get the ability to customize their icons etc. very close to Google and Samsung options - the global version has none of that and must rely on their Themes app, which is terrible and often doesn't work properly. Its even worse because if you go online to look for MIUI customization, often you will find tutorials for the Chinese version which simply doesn't work for the Global version. I have no idea why that is but its stupid.

      @TALPOKEYASHA Před 3 měsíci

      @@hima20100 Sorry, I just now saw the comment.
      Well, after almost 5 years of use it's pretty hard to switch and it'll take some time to get familiar with it.
      I do use Nova Launcher which can also be applied to the X6P so I can't really comment on that aspect.
      The only thing that's really bugging me, is the separate notification bar and quick settings (like turning on or off WiFi \ Bluetooth and so on).
      Another thing that's absolutely idiotic is the time limitation of the "Always-on" display which is only 10 seconds with no option to let it stay "Always" on.
      I also miss the side panel of apps but I just created another folder so it's not that hard to readjust.
      Other than those it's pretty much the same android experience.
      The ads are actually not that bad, they just suggest a single app whenever I search for something in the store but nothing outside it.

    I just updated to HyperOS like 12 hours ago, and so far I'm liking it. The increased customisation is very much welcome, for example. My only complains so far though are the fact the settings menu is still a huge hard to understand mess, and the action centre is even more messy... the settings shortcut was also removed from where it used to be
    So overall, only small complaints so far, and I'm pretty sure that with time it's only going to get better

    HyperOS has been available on my X13 for the last 10 day, but I still haven't pulled the trigger. I've read various negative things, like people's banking apps being inaccessible after the upgrade, or endless boot cycle. For all that HyperOS offers (or doesn't, more like), I will keep MIUI for now until the second version gets released. I couldn't care any less about a customisable lock screen.

    • @altjr458
      @altjr458 Před 3 měsíci

      I received HyperOS on my 12t Pro and I have nothing to complain about, in fact it was almost like buying a new cell phone. The system is more fluid and stable, even if it doesn't have bugs in v14... People will always complain about Xiaomi having improved or not, whether HyperOS or MIUI. Xiaomi 13 Pro shouldn't face any problems, update your device because if it did a good job on previous devices, it will do even more on yours. My friend has a normal Xiaomi 13 and it runs fine.
      *After installing. My 12t Pro showed a lot of slowness and bugs in the first 30m, but the system was transitioning. After restarting and leaving the device still for about 5 minutes, it was stable and perfect

      the Mi9 was (is!) a great phone...I 'upgraded' to a Pixel 6a because the Mi had run out of security patches... what a mistake, the Pixel was annoying to use from day one 🤬! Now got an X6 Pro for the storage, but apart from that, my Mi9 feels identical give or take!

      Same here. Honestly, there isn't really a "replacement" for the Mi9T currently. Everyone went with nuisance punch-hole front cameras or under display cameras that aren't great. Modern software seems to be getting worse too, with more bugs and lots of bloatware "features" no one cares about. Once my Mi9T stops working properly I actually have no idea what phone I'm gonna get...

    Then the initial HyperOS version came to my Poco F5 Pro, sheesh it was a pain, sluggish performance and video audio playback not in sync, needed to constantly reboot. Got mine from China with the global OS version and there's a bunch of stuff that just doesn't work which I hope will get fixed with the update. Stuff like Gmail not being able to open attachments, Google Drive crashing when downloading files (both issues seem to stem from a problem with the internal download manager app), updating system apps being an unclickable option in system settings etc....

    Although it's very lookalike, I like it because it's noticeable speed change. Certainly the new name wants to show confidence.
    But struggle to find bedtime reminder setting. Initial setup prompt and now I can't change DND automatic ON mode.

      No, it's a simple software switch. "Automatically adjust charging duration to preserve battery longevity" is the description of this feature. It stops the charger when the battery is full. Apps from the Play Store do the same thing ;)

    Since using hyperOS, I use a launcher other than Poco because it's more practical, and I use sidebar/floating windows (pip), but every time I open application A and then float application B, application A will automatically be minimized. Is there a solution?

    • @obscuree2071
      @obscuree2071 Před 3 měsíci

      I also have the same problem. Someone on the reddit says that this is because of third-party launcher. So we need to revert back to poco launcher for that to be working properly.. Unlike miui14.

      I just bought the X6 PRO and use the NOVA launcher. As it replaces the home screen, you can't use the Hyper gestures for that screen. I can use all the other gestures like screenshot, open the flash and more

    • @obscuree2071
      @obscuree2071 Před 3 měsíci

      Also with new HyperOS the sidebar cannot work properly in third party launchers as it's automatically close the app you use while you trying to float another app over it. Really sucks. But I have to say hyperos launcher is definitely smoother and seamless, though I still don't like it.
