Searching For The Lost Silver Spear Mine

  • This week I'm searching for a mine - the Silver Spear Mine. This was at one point the main mining operation at Cerro Gordo...and I knew nothing about it until Christmas this year.
That's when a family sent me their grandmother's journal. She was the caretaker at Cerro Gordo from 1939-1942. These are years that aren't covered in the history books up here. Inside the journal, she often referred to the "Silver Spear" mine. So this week, I decided to try to find and explore that mine...

@@chascarpenter5006 I tried to do some research but knowing the parents names were Francis and Curtis wasn’t enough. There wasnt much information from the 3 years they were there probably because there was very few people living there but all I found was a Curtis in death records but that was before they lived there so it was the wrong Curtis. I couldn’t find anything on Francis because the search results would be about San Francisco. If I knew the last name, I could probably find who their kid is but he never mentioned the last name. This is the kind of thing that would likely require Brent to do it because he has the book written by Francis so he may be able to search for names or more specific information on that family.

Sadly, too many of us take too long, or just don't realise how quickly time has passed before the slowing down and letting everything soak in thing begins. That's why grandparents are so important. We quite often focus pinpointedly when younger. Job, house, good schools etc. It's only later the appreciation gene kicks in and the outlook you have and express becomes clearer every day. You're definitely headed in the right direction. Town plans, outlook, philosophy and spirit. I'll give you 10yrs to learn more & build everything the way you want. Alright Brent! Tips for snowboarding newbies: always be up on your toes (or on your heels, but toes might be best to start of with). Keeping edges will help you control the board a little more firmly until you can get used to how it feels when you ride flat footed. This doesnt mean you need to literally have the board carving on edge, just that you should shift your weight fully onto your tippy toes or back on the back edge of your heels to feel more in control of the board and to be ready for it shifting underfoot. Remember: It's all-in-the-hips, so where you twist, it goes!
