How to use 3D in Xlights (and how to convert from 2D)

    I'm enjoying your tutorials. You keep it very simple and may even over explain (repeat) the same thing sometimes, but that's what makes it easy to get what you're showing.

    3D is amazing when it comes to any display. It saves having to setup shadow models for a different rendering perspective.
    When you set views, you can render a prop from that view for a certain effect. Example: a bars effect renders from a top-down birds eye view on the entire house.

    In 2019 my roofline had issues with some pixels basically acting as one pixel. This was because XLights saw a 70 node pixel string as one pixel going back into the Z axis. Telling that model to render from another angled solved the issue.
    It's more than just having fun watching a sequence from different angles. 🙂

      Very informative, I am facing similer issue for left side props, but not geeting how to slove could you please help ?

      @@ranvirgorai7304 Add a camera angle in the layout tab.
      Then change the effect's layer settings to 'per preview' and the camera angle you added.

      @@ranvirgorai7304 Biggest advice:
      xLights looks at your model preview as a 2D view. It has no perception of depth.
      Changing rendering angle in 3D space can help that. Although sometimes other rendering settings such as 'as a single line' do better.

    How do you get the mesh of your house

      Getting that mesh was extremely hard. I used a program called blender to make 3d models and I'm a noob when it comes to that stuff. I don't know how I made the mesh all I know is I did it in blender 🤣

      @@ranvirgorai7304 I have talked to the people in the zoom room. Its more important to have the props as the exist in the real world vs how it looks in this program layout. So even if the outline of your house is at an angle (based on the picture) you want to make it perfectly "level" in xlights assuming your gutters are level. Otherwise xlights will render it irregularly in the real world even though it looks right in xlights itself.

      aka its more important to use the model as a rough idea of what you are putting together but if the house is level across but the picture your laying your props on was taken at an angle make sure you build your props in level in xlights. AKA the 3d model isn't THAT important the real world dimensions and angles is what you really want to match in xlights.

    do you have a matrix i made one with pixels mine is 15x15 225 pixels

      I have a matrix but it's not made out of pixels it's a projector. Mine is 176x96 pixels which would make the resolution of the screen just under 240p.

      @@How2Pixel are the pictures clear with the projector and do you shine it on a wall or something else you could take any projector

      It shines on our garage and if you stand near it, the picture looks bad and fussy, but from the road it looks fine.
