  • Today in this video, I show you how I program a sequence in Xlights, as well as how to program one fast and efficiently so you don't need to spend weeks programming. Hopefully this will give you some tips to enhance your sequencing capabilities! Remember that however you sequence, whether you have years of experience or none, everyone will enjoy it because it's something unique! Feel free to use the timestamps below to skip to the part you want to see.

    Excellent tutorial video, you definitely look like you are in your element once you are sequencing. I think one of the hardest parts of sequencing is seeing what you want to do and then knowing how to apply it. I think your video can make others feel comfortable to just try stuff and go with even just trial and error. I think a lot of people try to go too big too fast. Like you said most people won't even know if it isn't a great show as long as the lights go blinky blinky.

    I asked for this video earlier in the year and just got around to watching it. Great job on the video and a huge help. I’m going to watch your updated xlights tutorial next. What about an updated video on importing someone else’s either free or purchased sequence. I messed around with it earlier this year but couldn’t wrap my head around making it all work with how people group props differently. Hopefully that makes sense.

      I'll definitely look into doing a video like that! However, I do have a lot of videos lined up right now, so it may be a little while until I can get to it. Glad you found this video useful though!

    I just started sequencing this year and underestimated how hard it was/is to sequence! Thanks for explaining all this. How do you get un-stuck when you just can't seem to find the right sequence for a part of a song?

    • @How2Pixel
      @How2Pixel  Před 8 měsíci

      Sorry for the late response. I run into this problem all the time, especially when programming the beginning of a new sequence. For me, I just try and play around with random effects I've never used before and see if they fit that part. I'll also try and get 1 or 2 groups of props in the sequence to do an effect to an instrument in the song. For example, I'm working on the song Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson for the Christmas show, and I was really stuck at the beginning. So I started by making my candy canes flash one at a time to the trumpet and violin. Next, I added a background effect, something that doesn't turn on too many lights but keeps the display from total darkness. For this song, I used the snowflake effect pattern most of the time in the background. Then finally, I'll just try adding random effects to single models or groups of models, and turn the background effect off for those. Sometimes I find enough effects to cover everything that I don't need the background effect. Now for faster songs, my sequencing is a little bit different than this, but generally, if I'm stuck, I'll try messing around with new effects using different layer settings, color curves, or value curves. Hope this helps!

      @@How2Pixel thank you! I'm starting to find out starting with a single model or smaller group is easier. I also play the songs at 3/4 or 1/2 speed if they are faster and that seems to be helping me think of things to do with the props

    Dude! I'm having trouble here. My effects keep snapping to the grid and surpassing my kicks (beats) leaving the effects slightly off beat.

    • @How2Pixel
      @How2Pixel  Před 7 měsíci +1

      You can turn off snapping by going under the file tab, then going to preferences, and then effects grid. Then uncheck the "snap to timing marks" setting. You can also click on either side of the effect and use your arrow keys to move it one frame at a time. Hope this helps!

      Perhaps you should instead practice on learning CZcams video controls before attempting to control thousands of pixels? You can pause, slow down at like 10 dif speeds and so on. You didn't even respond to his apology which was totally unnecessary for him to do. The vid was very helpful.
