i got the first mark4 and same thing! flew for 1 min and thats it. thaught they would fix it but claim i dont know what im talking about and want photos? they know bardwell did a vid on it! so i waited 4 months for the next version and usb conection fell off when conecting to it so thats that. $800 australian and all i have is parts. never again will i put a dollar in their pockets. they know the problemb but want photoes and vids and crap. i found an old wizzard 220s and put the parts in my mark 4 and its magic. so if any one wants to know what bits i used msg me. it flys so smooth and its cheap.
@@jacobkowalski2709 what spent $800 and havnt flown for 30seconds? fuck gep fpv they got me for 800. fat shark sent me a pair of dud hdo2s and i sent them for repair mean while i got another suplier and perfect but 200 in shipping 3months repair time and sold them for 500 Australian which is half price after sending them back 2 times this sport is tearing me a new arsehole! eachine wizzards are the best value for money and they do what they say they fly rtf resdy to fly. yes ready to fly. and they are the only ones full stop.
Finally got my drone working after 2 weeks. This is my first build. Receiver wasn't getting any input from my transmitter. I remove all the receiver wiring and resolder it again with different wiring after watching this video and its finally working. Thanks for the help.

Save the day. For some weird reason, when I plugged in my crazy F405 aio, betaflight decided to switch receiver settings to spektrum protocol, so after switching back to crsf, the stick low/centre/high thresholds were all zero. Spent a day thinking my mobula 8 was damaged. Thanks for posting this video.

I've seen BADRX in a situation where the throttle-channel was below the rx_min_check. It wasn't possible to arm that way. My fix was to adjust the rx_min_usec and rx_max_usec and also the rxranges. This happens whith Walkeera-receivers bound to a Jumper T8SG (2 different rx-types on 3 kwads), where all channels went from 845-2170.
Was flying my geprc skip hd, went to change flight modes but accidentally hit the disarm switch, quad fell from the sky crashed and now i get the rx loss prompt and quad won’t arm, I’ll use the info provided in this vid to troubleshoot, love your content always very helpful…
Built a new Quad, everything worked, flew 3 packs great, connected to betaflight and tweeked the rxrange on one toggle to set it to 1000 - 2000 then I lost function of my XM+ receiver. AUX 1 - 4 no longer worked but arm and beeper AUX channels still worked but quad wouldnt arm or respond correctly. Even re binding didnt fix it but green light on receiver indicated still bound. I had RX LOSS in CLI when I checked status. Rather than desolder and by a new receiver I reflashed my flight controller with full chip erase and BOOM it all of a sudden worked again. I have no idea why it stopped working, I had not touched much and I undid any changes I made in betaflight but messing with only one rxrange setting stuffed it. I had not entered incorrect values as far as i could tell. Weird but could help others fix this. Just try a full chip erase and flash latest firmware if you are confident in doing this and reconfigure your quad in betaflight from scratch. Its not too hard with JBs videos on setting up betaflight.

Thank you! I was struggling with a beta metor 65 hd, that I wanted so bad to make some cool hd footage in very tiny spaces. It made me go mad. I soldered..desoldered.. prayed...then I flashed it again and then uploaded the cli and it went just fine 😃👍

I am new to quads and I would like your help with the following situation. My Trashcan worked normally with my Taranis QX7, and for no apparent reason no longer arm. The Trashcan and the radio bind, but don’t arm and there’s no reaction from the sticks on the Betaflight receiver tab. Only thing I did after last Trashcan flight was to add a DSM plane to the IRX4+ external module that is installed on Taranis. The Status command via CLI displays RXLOSS.
You need to configure the FC for your receiver type.
Hi. I watched two of your videos because I was getting a Rx Loss message every time I armed my quad but the AUX channels all worked fine. It seems like there is another reason besides the ones you mention.
I found that I need to set the Extended Limits in OpenTx for my TX16s to + / - 125% in order to allow the sticks to control the OSD, but I had inadvertently set the throttle channel to = / - 125 % as well. Putting the throttle channel back to + / - 100% solved the problem and no more Rx Loss messages. I've no idea why extended throttle limits results in Rx Loss but at least I found a solution.

JB -: here's another...in BF 3.5.1, if you are using dshot commands to use the motors as a deeper and if you have aux 3 set as the pre-arm, then it will not arm and give you the pre-arm flag even if you have the pre-arm switch toggled.

Flashed to a newer version of beta flight, quad will not arm. I have a Arris 250B Using a F4 omnibus F4 SD, BLHeli S ESC A-H-30. Radiolink AT9S R9DS receiver. Also in Betaflight, am unsure about receiver set up. I know my receiver is SBUS. Flew ok when first took quad out to play, then updated to Betaflight 3.5.7. This is when i ran into the arming problem.
Need to get the arming status code. Presumably you're seeing RXLOSS which is how you ended up here?
If you know the receiver is SBUS output then Configuration tab should show SBUS receiver protocol selected. Then it's a matter of finding the correct UART in the Ports tab. Enable Serial RX on the correct UART in the Ports tab. For Omnibus targets, SBUS is usually on UART 1. There is sometimes a PPM/SBUS pad that uses a solder bridge to select between the two.
You talk to your quad a lot nicer then I talk to mine... hence the reason I’m watching this video lol

Thank you JB for helping us drone newbies. I would need your help in my drones arm failure flag (my 1st done beta85 pro2 ELRS and radio betafpv lite 3.0 elrs). I'm getting RXLOSS flag in betaflight, but all modes setup are completed in betaflight and show yellow when respective radio switch is toggled. Except for ARM mode, which turns red color(disabled) when ARM switch is turned on. Double checked on accelerometer calibration, modes setup and radio output within range on betaflight receiver tab. Only unusual thing I noticed was gimbal outputs are not constant and flickering. Please help me.

Hi I h reset my setting to default think that it would help me with my motor issue I had (motors didn't match what bf was showing which I still haven't figured out) now my transmitter is saying I have telemetry with my quad but I'm not seeing any activity on bf when I try to arm it or move a gumble. What could cause this?

Joshua - Love this series - However, with the command line commands I don’t use them enough to remember all of them off the top of my head. Would it be possible to put together a spread sheet with topic category headers listing applicable sub lists of common commands, along with the command parameters? That would be one of the biggest aids I could ever think of.
The Failsafe flag stays set if you regain signal during GPS Rescue. You have to move the sticks (by default 30% deflection) to regain control.

This doesn’t apply to those who drones are fitted with DJI O3 right? Same as if link quality is zero, again this doesn’t apply to O3 air units, correct?

I'm about to go insane insane with my Quadcopter because it's brand new wired up my receiver and my receiver inputs work perfect plug into betaflight as soon as I plug in a battery then I don't get any movement and my receiver tab unless I unplug my battery, and I don't know what to do I'm new to this

Hi Josh. Building my first quad I've been following your learn to build a drone series. Made it to video 12 cant get it to arm. Frsky rsxr, in cli it showed badrx and arm switch. I've rewatched the videos not having any luck.
BADRX and ARMSWITCH means you need to cycle the arm switch such that the FC goes disarmed. Go to the Modes tab and move the arm switch and you will see if it goes out of the yellow area that defines the arming mode or not.

It means the Arm switch is in the armed position. Move it to disarmed.

My Tinyhawk 2 just started falling out of the sky after 30 seconds to a minute of flight. The OSD says RX Loss at the same time the motors turn off and it starts falling out of the air. Interesting since I believe the SPI receiver is part of the Tinyhawk FC board. I flew my TH Freestyle right after this, so it's not my transmitter because the Freestyle flew fine. Maybe a cracked board? When it heats up the crack expands and disconnected the receiver connection to the rest of the board?

@@guarf I'm not sure. I've replaced the camera, the flight controller and all 4 motors and it still falls out of the sky with RX Loss. I bought the Betafpv lite2 radio and that fixed the problem. That makes absolutely no sense because the Freestyle 2 that uses the exact same FC and camera still flies fine on my x9 Lite in d16 mode. But I've noticed a lot of things about this hobby make absolutely no sense. The "new" AIO board I bought from RDQ came with a nasty solder blob on the negative battery pad and it looks like the vtx has been replaced on it, but it flew fine for 2 batteries on 25mw. I unlocked the vtx and set it to 200mw and it's not worked since. It actually smoked when I plugged a battery in. I told RDQ about it and they mailed me a new AIO board. Should be here next week. I hope it works after I replace the board again, but if it doesn't I will use the motors and camera for a build and I will never buy another EMAX product again. This thing was fun to fly but it's been the biggest piece of garbage I've ever seen.
So my new CRUX35 HD with SPI ELRS... even when it's up and connected to my tx16s, it says rxfailsafe in betaflight all the time.. I don't get it. Is it because it's SPI?
Is there any other situation where the badrx can be present? I just finishing building one of your beginner kits ( I bought it 2 years ago, mainly forgot about it, have other quads but recently found it, built it and went to maiden fly it today) its the xilo analog build. I bought it 4s but have since went with 6s, have 3 6s quads so I just set up a motor limit.
I tried cycling the battery and re-arming to no avail. The rx is working as in the inputs are showing in betaflight (crossfire nano rx)
So i have this problem where i just take off, and i get rxloss and it disarms. Than i arm again, and it flies perfect. Its also on an aio flight controller, (whoop) so it cant really be the reciver-fc connection. Also this problem occures on both of my drones, so it has to be the transmitter (qx7) but after arm cycle it is fixed, so whats the issue?
I just upgrade my reciver on my tinyhawk freestyle 2 to an xm pluse but I keep getting failsafe am bad rx what am I doing wrong

hey josh what if my mobula 6 hd is binded to my tango 2 but when in bf i hit throttle and it doesnt do anything
and it says rxloss angle....so it will let me bind than nothing jus stays bound and in bf wont let me turn on arm switch ....doesnt even recognize that im hitting any thing on the tango at all

Hey Josh, My quad stopped receiving stick inputs after a crash. I checked cli and rxloss came up. I can see a blue led light blinking and also the buzzer won’t stop beeping. This is my first quad so I’m not sure if it’s the antenna on the radio, the receiver or flight controller. The wired connection between the receiver and flight controller seem to be fine. I also don’t see any physical damage. I’m using a AT9S radio.

Boot graceeans you are trying to arm too soon after power up.
What if you get this on a new BnF model that's already wired up? I only see RXloss in Betaflight in CLI from Status command. When I try to arm, the motors spin for a second and then stop*
If you are able to arm then RXLOSS doesn't seem possible, at least at that moment when you arm. Most likely if this is happening on a new bnf then you put the props on wrong, and the reason they're stopping is RUNAWAY. My guess is RXLOSS is happening when you plug in to CLI because you didn't plug in the battery and the receiver is not powered up.

I am ONLY getting CLI and MSP errors. When disconnected from usb and computer I still can't arm. DJI osd does not let me view the warnings, so I have no idea why.
Check that the Arm mode changes color when you flip the arm switch (in the Modes tab). If not, then the FC doesn't think you're trying to arm.

I figured it out. mSp enabled on urarts for osd on dji doesn't work on betaflight 4.2.2 upto 4.2.5.
So I had msp on for urart 6 to enable osd but that was tripping the arming flag. Had to downgrade to 4.1 or up to 4.2.8.
Im new to all this I have a tinyhawk 2 freestyle and in betaflight I accidentally reset settings w/o a backup,anyway got it mostly back but still have the RX_failsafe and it wont arm??
Ok I have built several quads and this has not happened to me before. I arm the quad, motors spins up then shut off about 3 second after it arms. Then reads :BAD_RX_RECOVERY. Any ideas? Will arm again shortly after the FC restarts but does the same thing.
Hi Josh I dig ur series I haven't had any issue but been flying for about year so I got some experience!! I remember I use to have a bf4 that would not arm and sometimes would it would always say config calbi I heard alot of other having issue with the bf4 same thing so I just got a different fc stayed away from the bf4!! I bought a crossfire micro and the next day they went down on price🤨 howcome you dont run crossfire much??
Hi Joshua! I often watch your videos, they are very helpful. I recently found a new problem on my quad, and it brought me to this video. My quad is working perfectly, but lately I'm struggling to get it to arm. The arm switch is registering on betaflight, and the values are correct. Howevery, I still get the armswitch error on the OSD, that stops me from arming, even after taking out the battery and turning off the controller multiple times and retrying. Sometimes it arms after multiple tries, and today I packed up after only one pack flown, it didn't want to arm again. Do you have any suggestions I can try?

hei guys so here is what i did: connected the Holybro Kakute F7 HDV & Tekko32 F3 HDV 40A 4in1 ESC 30x30 Stack with a DJI Unit - without yet the motor connected to the esc! - it worked when i was trying to figur out how to make my first fpv drone - after some time, i tried to connect back the dji controller and there is no reaction, it says RXLOSS NOPREARM CLI MSP in the status. can it be fixed? :( got more error - RX_FAILSAFEBAD_RX_RECOVERYMSPARM_SWITCH
RX FAILSAFE error on a brand new (never flown) HGLRC Sector 132 with Crossfire Nano factory installed. It's bound to my Tango 2, but get the failsafe error in Betaflight and when bound, it shows no stick movement in the Receiver tab. I've spent hours trying to research why is causing the failsafe error on the quad, and how to resolve it, but I just can't find it. HGLRC "support" has been painful and unhelpful so far. Thoughts?

Hello Joshua, great video. Have you ever heard or even experienced that a battery interferes with the signal from the transmitter? I have a battery with this I have signal breaks after about 100 meters again and again. It come as a source of error only the balancer cable, main cable or the connector in question. But there are no problems loading and also the plug is not warm after the flight. I have no Telemetrie so I can't see the strength of the RSSI Signal. What do you think?
It's hard to imagine how one lipo would cause this issue. But if I had a LiPo that was causing this issue I'd retire it.

Go to the Modes tab. Delete Parallyze Mode.
Hey JB I have had a reck and a esc lit on fire and know the FC isn't responding any thing I should do before buying a new one it's a old JB boad and I don't want to give up the SD card or rewire up a new board any thoughts

If the quadcopter instantly flips over when you arm and raise the throttle with props on, it is almost 100% certain to be one of these things:
1. Clockwise prop installed on counter-clockwise spinning motor or vice versa.
2. Flight controller not facing forward. Go to the Setup tab in the configurator. Tilt the quadcopter on all axes (pitch, roll, yaw) with your hands. The 3D model in the configurator should move the same as you move it with your hand. If it does not, use the Board Alignment parameter in the Configuration tab to fix it.
3. Motors not wired correctly. TAKE OFF YOUR PROPS. Plug in a battery. Go to the Motors tab. Turn on the "props are off" slider in the lower-right. Raise the individual sliders (1, 2, 3, and 4) one at a time, just enough that the motor begins spinning. The motor positions (1, 2, 3, and 4) should match the graphic in the upper left. If they do not, then either move the signal wires so that they are correct or use resource reassignment to virtually "move" the motors.
4. Motor spinning wrong direction. Do the same as step 3 but compare the motor direction to the arrows on the graphic in the upper left. If a motor is spinning the wrong direction, either reverse it using BLHeli (or whatever ESC software you are using) or swap any two motor wires with each other, which will reverse the direction.
Many times, people swear up and down they have checked all of these things, and then come back to say oops I missed one you were right. So if you think you have checked all of these things and your quad still FLIPS OUT, go back and check again. If your quad is insta-flipping on takeoff, it is almost always one of these things.

The latest Open TX does a safety check and gives you "Model still connected" if you try to test failsafe by turning the transmitter off. I have no idea how to disable this safety feature, or indeed if you can? Bit of a pain when race registration ask you to prove your failsafe is set up.
Just press enter to confirm and it will turn off.

I have failsafe rxloss badrx. I have replaced the reciever and replaced the cable. This thing flew before but doesnt now. the reciever tab throttle jumps always at some point. This is when i get the failsafe. I cannot find any solution for that
If you replaced the receiver then I suspect the transmitter may be the problem. Has it ever been powered on with the antenna removed? That can damage them.
@@JoshuaBardwell i have that fs-i6 doesn't have a replaceable antenna. But i have updated the firmware recently but this haven't changed anything. Betaflight gives me 13% rssi while the transmitter is sitting directly next to it. So maybe you are right. Any possibility to check that somehow? Without a second remote
I've a other problem. I've got a spektrum dx6i, and the antenna broke. Bought a new one, and the range sucks. If I go bind a tree on like 10 meters I los signal... I don't know what I'm doing wrong... I'm thinking to buy just a new radio...
Send the radio in to Horizon Hobby for repair. They support their hardware.
Remember that you can damage a transmitter by operating it with no antenna. The RF energy gets reflected back into the transmitter instead of being radiated by the antenna, and this can damage a transmitter very quickly. Or not. But in your case it sounds like the antenna loss hurt your transmitter.
I still can’t get this drone to work I watch all your videos and got new parts for the drone and it still does not work please send help. This does not make any sense is there some that I can call so the could help me out. I don’t want to give up but I am starting to hate this hobby :(

Ok i hope you can help me figure this out. I have a rooster built from Armattan that i flew today. I got home and flashed the clracingf4 and board with betaflight 3.5.5 and now i have an RXLOSS flag. any ideas as to why the FC wont see the board?
Since you re-flashed the board, I am going to guess you didn't get the configuration right. Did you save the old CLI dump before flashing? You could dump that configuration right back into the CLI and be good.
For CLRacing, the Serial RX UART is usually UART 1. Go to the Ports tab and enable Serial RX on UART 1. Then go to the Configuration tab and set the serial receiver protocol to SBUS.
@@JoshuaBardwell I thought i had the right UART and assumed it had to be something else. Possibly RX related. Went back and changed the UART and switched to Frsky and boom. She spins up perfect. Thanks for the kick in the ass.
