    Hi Katie! I am looking for some tips on reducing elastic bulk. I can’t seem to figure out the best way to reduce bulk in areas where I am adding straps. Any tips you can provide would be extremely helpful!

    Thank you for all of your awesome videos! I am wondering how to know what length and width of stitch to use. Currently I am using a regular sewing machine, if that makes a difference for this answer.

    How would you fix seams that roll out from the inside of the swimsuit?
    My lining is forever rolling out from the inside of the swimsuit especially around the leg holes on bikini bottoms.

    Hey unfortunately I’m still getting curling and rippling 6mm bikini straps. I’ve also changed needles and tension. The problem only appears when the the straps are turned with a loop turner. Before they seem to lie flat and neat. Why is this happening? Can I solve it?

      You'll have to fully remove it and sew in some new elastic!

    I'm also having a crappy time making bathing suit strings!!!! I have my own brand and sew everything myself, so I am trying to find a practical way to just make a bunch at the same time 😭

      Search for "continuous bias tape" on CZcams and there's some tutorials on how to make continuous cuts!

    When you are sewing bathing suit bottoms, and are about to sew the gusset section, do you sew through the elastic as well? Like, are you sewing through 4 layers of fabric, and 2 layers of elastic? Or is the elastic shorter than the fabric, preventing it from being sewn wh en you sew through 4 layers?

    • @EdgewaterAve
      @EdgewaterAve  Před 3 lety

      Two layers of elastic! Always sew your elastic all the way to the edge of the seam. Even though there's two layers of elastic, when it's unfolded it still lays flat if you give it a good trim!

    Thank you so much for this video, Katie! I am using just a sewing machine and am having trouble with the stitches skipping while attempting to attach the elastic. I've tried different tensions and thread width, any other suggestions? Thank you again!

    • @EdgewaterAve
      @EdgewaterAve  Před 3 lety +1

      Does it happen with other fabrics too, or just knits/swim? If it's happening with other fabrics then you might want to get your machine checked out- it's possible it's a malfunction or mechanical issue with the machine.
      Otherwise you might want to try a walking foot and seeing if that helps!

    Why does my top thread keep coming out of the needle ? When I try to see elastic onto swimwear is the only time this happens

    • @EdgewaterAve
      @EdgewaterAve  Před rokem +1

      Have you tried pulling your top thread out 6 or more inches before you start sewing? If you have, then you might try messing with your needle tension to see if you can find a sweet spot where that doesn't happen!

    • @EdgewaterAve

      If you want to you can hand sew, but it will take a long time and it won't be as secure!

      What about borrowing a sewing machine? Our public library lets people check them out! Or, sometimes shops let you rent time on a sewing machine (but maybe not during covid)...

    • @EdgewaterAve

      I personally think you should at least have a regular machine to start with. Then if you can, definitely get a serger as well, it's so much easier and faster (and better quality). However, if you only have a serger and don't have a regular machine you won't be able to make some styles. For instance, you wouldn't be able to make a basic triangle top because it requires a straight stitch, which can't be done on a serger. So if I had to choose one I'd say a regular machine, but ideally both!
