- ▼Gel Blaster SURGE has been upgraded from version 1.0 to 1.5 to 2.0. This review is of the newest 2.0 version. They have made some improvements to it and bumped the max FPS up to 175 fps. It is still one of the few available gel blasters in the United States. amzn.to/3aMynZd
Gel Blasters have exploded in popularity in 2022.They are fast becoming the backyard game of choice. It took a while for them to gain traction primarily because they are looked down upon by the airsoft community. However, I don't see these as a replacement or threat to airsoft. Gel Blasters offer a new category of fun that fits in between Nerf and Airsoft. Gel Blasters provide a good form of backyard fun with very cheap ammo that biodegrades and doesn't require any cleanup. If you're serious about your game and looking for high accuracy, then airsoft is your game. If you just want to have fun with kids, family, and friends with minimal protection (protective eyewear is all that's really necessary), then gel blasters are for you.

I purchased this one on Amazon in March 2022, but days earlier I purchased a Gel Blaster SURGE 2.0 at Walmart. So, I don't know how much longer you will be able to find the V1.5 for sale. It's possible that once they are sold out, only the V2.0 will be available.

So that is the true 2.0. Nice video 📺 I was at Walmart yesterday and picked up a translucent lighting blaster. I am putting out the video tonight.📺
Modified mine by putting some washers behind the spring. This essentially creates more potential energy by compressing the spring even further when firing. Definitely hits harder.
Good idea. How many MM thick did you add of washers? Does it sound like the gears/motor is straining?
@@engineerable I'd say 12 to 15 MM (didn't measure exactly) Nothing too crazy because I didn't want to strip the gears. They seem to be holding up well at this point (the mod has been installed for about two weeks now). Firing full auto is great, but rapid firing at semi auto you can hear the motor starting to struggle a bit, I think from the constant starting and stopping.
@@codyjohnson3893 every couple months I take mine apart and stretch the spring a Lil bit then clean and re lube the piston with super lube always helps

I had one and it only lasted a few days, turns out the ammo hopper on top of the gun allows water to leak into the gun itself damaging the electronics inside ( not waterproof). The gel guns with a magazine underneath ensure dry electronics inside the gun and are the better option in my opinion.
Yes that can happen. It's important to strain the gels well before loading them with any blaster. With the underneath magazine it's possible to damage the feed motor if the gels are too wet.
@@engineerableyea when my gels are fully gown I put them In one of them strainer bowls and then load them in the hopper
it literally tells you in the pamphlet that comes with it that that can happen

Is the Id of the 1.5 barrel the same as the 2.0 also curious about the springs I know the 1.5 has a slightly stiffer spring then the original that's why the fps is higher but rof is slower

So I was just in Walmart and I guess they are both 2.0 but they have slightly different box images and blasters themselves sound different
They keep pushing new revisions to the shelves with improvements. It's hard to keep up, but good that they keep making them better.
I bought one from Walmart on the 1st. Fire about half the hopper and then it stopped firing. Spent about 5 minutes with it total. I had purchased a 1.0 from Hallmark on the same day, it was $69.99, then I saw the 2.0 at my local Walmart on sale for $45 so it seemed like a no brainer. I think the FPS is stronger and faster on the 1.0, but there was a battery fire recall just recently on the 1.0 and I didn't want to be modding so soon. Returned the 1.0 and now I have a non functioning 2.0 which I can't return (Walmart has a no return policy on gel blasters). Waiting on gel blaster team to respond to my emails, it's been over 24 hours smh.
That sucks it didn't work and they won't let you return. The original 1.0 appears to have a recall on it.
So. Do you know how I could obtain 2 original barrels for the surge 2.0? I bought two and put on the orange barrel not knowning it was a speed reducer. And my gf unknowingly threw away my boxes with both barrels and barrel removal tool.

Got my 1.5 today...thought I'm getting a 2.0.
Starfire is my favorite for the glow in the dark. But the batteries on all the ones I have are not great. I want to do an external battery mod, so I can change the batteries.

I'm not sure. Usually it's not a good idea to charge high current draw devices while they are running

I haven't taken the 2.0 apart yet, but I assume it's a 3 position switch, so if you can find another similar 3 position toggle switch you can replace it.
My 2.0 doesn’t shoot when I pull the trigger it’s fully charged and it flashes red when I pull the trigger

V1 is no longer sold new, so you would have to find a used one. V2 (which I've found out is actually V1.6) is a better blaster. STARFIRE is coming out soon, and it is a V2 with tracer for glow in the dark gel balls
@@engineerable starfire is gonna be the way to go now for only $10 more for tracer ability instead of having to buy an adapter and separate tracer only reason I did tracers on mine is because I already had ones from my airsoft gear lol

That's too vague. A lot of things could be wrong.

Sounds like a dud. Maybe got water on circuit board? Ask for a replacement

Hey bro so i bought a surge 2.0 and worked fine, but i tried chargin it today, and it seemed fine but when i came back light was flashin green and red and doesnt wanna turn on anymore ? Any idea?

2.0 is better than 1.5. They had issues with the variable speed barrel used in the 1.5. I noticed that gels get smashed and plug the variable speed holes. The rocker switch on the 2.0 is too easy to accidentally turn on. Not a big deal, but be aware.

If your PCB got wet, it needs to dry off first to work. Otherwise, you need to talk to Gel Blaster company

@@engineerable the valken hoppers are nicer tho they look better hold a bit more and faster to reload but also keep an eye out for the new star fire hopper from Gel Blaster it's basically a tracer hopper that lights up the glow gels

Yes, you change the FPS using swappable barrels.
I just got 2 of these 4 5 bucks each. I call out a false price. 2 4 ten dollars. They like 70 each. I got 150 worth of toy 4 10 bucks. Yay me!

You're either using the orange barrel instead of the white one, or your gel balls are not fully grown.

I just got one and it doesn’t shoot 100% of the time I charged it and it just doesn’t shoot like normal getting stuck or something need help
