Had a real 'sinking' feeling when I realised it was based on Klondyke...but after watching your run through and the enthusiasm you injected into it...I'm sold man...if I ever invent a cool game...be assured you will be the first to receive a free copy...great review ..

It seems like a good cooperative game where the theme brings an extra dose of tension and responsibility. I have to admit i raised my eyebrow disapprovingly when you stated the similarities with "Solitaire", but seeing the runthrough i realized it's much more than that. Still, i can't bring myself to get past the thematic aspects behind the games' mechanisms: people being divided by wealth status, seeing the representation of the passengers on the cards, having to choose between saving the life of a little girl and the elegant woman dressed in furry coats (but probably the mother of child too). Maybe I'm just too emotional....

totally understandable. i think it's one of the strengths of the game that it can engender that sort of emotional response, actually. a lot of credit for that goes to the amazing art, which is incredibly evocative...

I think that any game about a tragedy like this would be offensive if it didn't evoke the chaos, moral dilemmas, and pathos of the events of that night! Having seen every reputable documentary about the Titanic and listened to the audiobook version of Walter Lord's "A Night to Remember", and having seen several film representations of the story, not just James Cameron's, I would actually tweak the game further to increase the tension and sense of tragedy. One thing I would do is to have a timer that is set for the amount of time from when the order was first given to start filling the lifeboats (not from when the ship first struck the iceburg) to when the ship sank. I would also have the 1st, 2nd, and Steerage class passengers all represented by different colors, and I would not have any third class passengers even get on deck until all the 2nd class women and children were loaded into boats. I'd require a crew member to man each lifeboat and have one of the collapsibles overturn while attempting to get it ready to launch. I'd also divide the ship into the port and starboard side b/c on one side the officer in charge enforced "women and children ONLY" (leading to more half loaded lifeboats being lowered) while on the other side the rule was "women and children first" and when no more women or children were there, they let men get on the boats. The win conditions would be to save a larger percentage of people than were saved in the actual disaster by the end of the game.

Donna Brooks sounds great but don't see how would create that from solitaire. Did you ever come up with a rule set?

I really hate solitaire. I can't imagine enjoying, much less becoming addicted to, a game that plays like solitaire. Yet, I have heard only praise for this game in all the reviews I've seen. IDK. I'm still not sold that there is enough strategy in it to make it worth having.

Well, there are people who enjoy playing slot machines, even on their iPhones when there's no chance of winning actual money. Solitaire is a mix between luck, perception, and in this game's case, a bit of strategy.

I got into solitaire gaming after my kids were born and I realized I only had an hour or so each night to myself. Also, this game is fantastic! It's about as simple a solitaire board game as it gets.
