Why do horses lick & chew? The science behind it!

In Module 1 of The Essence of Liberty Online Academy, we discuss the autonomic nervous system the importance of a feeling of safety during training. A feeling of safety opens up the doors to social engagement, curiosity, play and seeking! All of which are incredibly important and valuable in this form of training!
In this lesson, we take a moment to discuss licking and chewing as this is something that is talked about a lot in the horse training world! There are many theories out there as to why horses do this (a sign of submission to the leader is a common one!), but what does science say?
