Right? Like, up until that point Kaz was repulsed at the thought of physical contact. While he still couldn't overcome his phobia, it was the first time he wanted to touch someone. The simple fact that he WANTED to touch Inej and was desperate for simple intimacy was a huge part of his character development.
Also from the beginning after Inej was injured, not only did he come to rescue her and carry her back - that could be misconstrued as his begrudging duty as the leader, we know better obviously - I missed the VERY IMPORTANT detail during my first read-through that Jesper literally came and offered to take Inej and carry her to Nina, it implies he asked twice, but Kaz refused to let her go.
Despite the fact that he was in the worst pain he’d been in since he originally fractured his leg (because he dropped down carrying her) and with us knowing that he’s generally averse to touch. He couldn’t bring himself to let her go. He literally snarled at and shoved passed Jesper, because he didn’t want to put her down… he wanted to be the one to hold her and guarantee her safety.
The way he says her name ,the way he always says INEJ ,is absolutely heartbreaking , too. He says her name like a benediction , like a prayer .
like in a broken world full of bad people she's the only saint he's ever believed in .
Like she's the one that keeps it human , keeps him grounded , And he can't bear to see her hurt , but he especially cannot bear not being able to do anything about it .
kaz brekker is a problem solver , and when kaz runs into a problem he cannot solve ,
That's when he comes undone 😭

I think is funny how you can forget that they're teenagers for most of the books, but that are a couple of moments when you can remember that, sometimes the Bastard of the Barrel, the mastermind and leader of the Six of Crows crew is just a boy with a crush who can't talk to the girl he likes.
In that scene when he takes off his gloves and start washing himself, no one can convince me he's not doing that on purpose, and i think is funny how Inej use to "work" in the menagerie but Kaz half naked make her blush and he probably could have a tantrum if she did the same, but just internally.
'Please, my darling Inej, treasure of my heart, won't you do me the honor of acquiring me a new hat?' i know he was being ironic but i love that scene so much.
THAT BOAT SCENE,... OMG... I LOVE THAT SCENE SO MUCH, KAZ DESPAIR BECAUSE INEJ IS HURT. OMG. Inej and Nina talk when she finally admit "Yes, i trully have feelings for this bastard".

I mainly DEMAND to see the "I'd crawl to you" line adapted as well as the famous bathroom/bandaging/"It's hard for me too" scene. Like, you CAN'T have Kaneji's story brought to live-action without THESE very significant story points for them. They were such emotionally strong moments for them and were real development points for their relationship. If they take out one of these, I'll be screaming in fangirl rage.

I just finished reading SoC and I can’t mention how much I am simping for kanej. Whenever they had a little interaction i was literally screaming, the way Kaz feels for her but unable to express, the way inej admires him and knows he’s not what he shows from outside has destroyed me but in a good way.

the thing that makes kanej so amazing is that they don’t have to be physically intimate in order for u to tell how deep their feelings go for each other. just one look and it’s so clear but it’s also a level of subtlety to where u would think they’re sharing a secret w each other. but if u REALLY pay attention u can tell what the secret is and it’s just so..AHHHH. also can’t wait to read six of crows so i can get that inner dialogue bc...whewww. i NEED it.

When the crew goes to exchange Inej for Alys after she's kidnapped by Van Eck, no one can convince me that involving the florist boat wasn't Kaz trying to be romantic... How can it be a coincidence that those flowers were Inej mom's favorites? He knew somehow and wanted to make Inej's return to the crew a big beautiful thing

aaaah I also reread it and wow! The feels😭 I love Inej’s interior monologue when she’s climbing the incinerator shaft (I mean her chapters are chef’s kiss anyway). Kaz’s chapters are literally just Inej, boy is so far gone for her and who can blame him? I feel like every little quote, Kaz calling Inej an investment or anything really, is still more iconic than most ships and these two can’t even really touch. Ms Bardugo really came and left no crumbs when writing that duology. You haven’t even mentioned it yet, but I was just bawling when rereading that so tell me why I did not really remember that when Kaz was almost drowning in the Ice Court, his last thoughts were only about Inej and man, that was just the most romantic shit I’ve ever had to read. He needed to tell her!!! Bitch!!!!! Man’s literally giving us one iconic Kanej quote after the other in the span of one page because the only thing he can think about is Inej!! Shut up, that’s soulmatism.

The Ice Court scene is literally my favourite it has to be adapted exact same
The incinerator scene is the best!! Especially the way flashbacks were implemented, and her consistently hearing her father’s voice saying “Climb, Inej,” and most importantly, how she finally discovered her purpose. Ugh. I’m ugly crying I’m so fricking attached to these characters.

I've read somewhere that Leigh chose the age because it is essentially a YA novel so maybe she had to have young adults there? I'm so satisfied with how shadow and bone aged them up cause this was just weird lol

6:17 The thing is, once Kaz is duped once, he never lets it happen again. The first time Inej snuck up on him, he decided it would never happen again and it didn't. Van Eck capturing him (although he did underestimate him after the heist) but yeah, you see what I'm getting at.
6:45 I think the 'Brick By Brick" episode would be when he's drowning and hallucinating his past then decides Inej is his present and future.

I love Kanej so much and I even loved them more in the show. They're just beautiful. Even in their interactions, you can see that they like each other especially Kaz when Inej was stabbed and he was so angry that he tortured the guy who dared hurt her. Anyone who hurts her will have to deal with him. The one scene I'm very excited to see is when Kaz helps Inej change her bandages despite his phobia. As sad as it is, I would like to see how Kaz's backstory is explained in the show. There's so much I want to see in the show that this comment would be long as a book. This video marks the acceptance of Kanej shippers only where we can scream and squeal whenever we see them or read about them.
im really late to this one but my reasons why i love kanej (maybe spoilers)
1. There are no main physical touches (hugs, kisses etc) but instead very small signs that they care for eachother (holding hands, looking at eachother) and the kanej community had no problems with it
2. Both Kaz and Inej have these traumas that affect them in ways that they see as weak when they are triggered but they both see that in eachother. Inej even felt “she and Kaz had become twin soldiers...pretending they are fine, hiding their wounds...” and to be that is showing that they both care for eachother so much that they dont reveal anything about those traumas and so they dont force the other in their relationship.

I just finished six of crows and immediately came here😻 I loveddddd ittt but i wished the whole book wasn’t about the ice court and the big plan and everything. Like i wish i could read more about their daily life and the characters relationship regardless of the plan and their lives constantly being in danger. But It was a great read regardless
