- How to install an aftermarket stereo on 2nd generation Lexus GS models 98-05 GS300 GS400 GS430 and IS models. Process to bypass factory amp may be similiar for other Lexus and other makes and models with factory amplifiers.

Well done video. While I don't mind the "old school" original audio system in my '98 GS300, your video makes me want to swap it out. Yours is the only detailed video I've seen on routing the harness from the factory amp. Thanks!
thank you for this video man. took me like 4 hours but everything worked exactly how you said. you the best
Thank you for watching, im glad it helped! Its a process but totally worth it. Thanks again!
Thanks for the video. Unraveling that amp harness and routing it back behind the radio is smart and way better way to do it. That Metra harness is a life saver too. Every other video just has you tapping or splicing the wires.
your video is the only one detailed enough to understand. thank you!!! great video!!
Next time just unpin the gray from that harness and inset it in the empty spot easy where the red is. same with illumination/dimmer.
I just got a 98 gs300, and it still has factory everything in it. This might help, thanks.
Appreciate the effort. You motivated me to get on this and give my Silver GS an update. Good details on the "power" wire. Speakers after that?
Thanks to you my g you have no idea I’m now riding thru my neighborhood bumpin bangers but ima need to see the dash kit installation if you ever did a video on it
thank you for this my old car needs things done and this is perfect tutorial 🙏 almost exact design i have a 430 2001
Dude, thanks for video. Is it possible to do a video on replacement of the original AC control and install the OEM navigation AC unit?
Good stuff man!! Been struggling with this 😩
Appreciate ya brother!!
Definitely going to give this a shot. Random thought, would it be possible to depin the gray accessory power wire and then pin it into the other connector rather than cutting and crimping the wires together?
Update: tested and working. If you don't want to cut any of the factory harness you can use a small flathead to depin the gray accessory wire and move it to the amp connector. It still has enough room to fit behind my head unit at least but it does force the unused plugs to be right by the used ones so it might be a problem.
*We in 2021, I put a 9 inch touch screen in my 04 GS300. I know the car old but you don't have to use 1990's components like you got there lol*
WhT radio harness did you use?
thank you!! please keep these GS300 videos coming
On the stock harness which wire is remote
I was told that I can't replace this, at a audio shop. I have a 2005 gs430
I have a Navi system in here, my setup looks wayy different
This guy is great thanks bro!
Why not just buy the harness LS02b that come with all the proper wiring
I've been searching for a video to help me with this DIY and your video is the best. Got a question though and it was only a thought I had until I saw you video. You removed the cd changer, how do you feel about installing the aftermarket cd player there? That's where I'm thinking of installing mines and installing a tablet in the space of the original head unit.
That sounds like an awesome idea. The wiring would work. Maybe just make a bracket to hold the cd player in place but its definitely possible.
I have a double din radio and I bought a harness off crutchfield but apparently that’s not the right one. The one you’re using I saw at Walmart was I’ll that work for my car?? Also what did you do about the amp
Im running it without the amp. The deck has its own amp, thats enough to power the speakers. If u have a 2nd gen gs the harness i showed in the video is all u need.
Excellent instructions, thank you!
Thank you for watching!
Was the factory amp bad? Why bypass it? Amp integration harness is 20 bucks.
Does this keep the stock sub working. Not that i really care. I will be pulling the stock out and use as a port for new sub.
if i want to get a 5 ch amp and sub, how would my aftermarket double din headunit connect to the amp?
I have a question, if the amp is not plugged up doesn't mean the subwoofer won't work where the speakers won't operate properly (less voltage or wrong voltage)?
The original sub wont work anymore if u want to keep using it u have to get another amp and wire it like u would any aftermarket sub and amp
@@IMPACTRATED fml thank you
Hi ! I have a question for you :) I have a GS300 with Pioneer F920BT after market radio. All my speakers are stock and I have the subwoofer. I connect all the wire, my speakers and radio work well but the Subwoofer do not work. Want can I do to use it again ?
have u figured it out. i added a new head unit. everything works but the sub
After I do this, can I remove the oem amp?
Ya u csn remove it doesnt power anything after this.
great video
my 99 gs300 is all one unit
Were did get the wire harness
Walmart for like $10
Where did you get the wiring harness from ???
The one in the green box? I got at walmart.
Just a quick question
Does the bass still function after unplugging the factory amp ? I was told by a local shop that they would be able to do the job of putting a double din unit but at the cost of no bass.
Na bypassing the amp makes it so the sub wont work anymore, unfortunately thats the only way to add an aftermarket stereo. U can always add a new amp and power the sub that way
@@IMPACTRATED oh Fosho that sucks the factory amp had a nice kick.
Did you put an amp yet and if so what size and what brand ?
Do you have a similar video for es 330 2005 ?
Could I install it in a 1993 gs300 model
By unplugging and by passing the stock amp does that also bypass the stock sub?
Or are you still using the stock amp just a new head unit, when plugging those other connection back in? I've been wanting to put a new head unit in but don't want to bypass the amp and use the stock sub just to keep things as oem as I can. Any info would be great thanks
Ya u lose the amp and the sub. I tried to figure out a way to keep the sub but u cant, unless u add a new amp and at that point u might as well add a new sub all together.
I’ve done the same as this but I have no sound at all, any suggestions?
Sorry for the late reply, do u have ur antenna and all ur speaker wires hooked up? Green, purple, white and blue wires are all speaker wires. Let me know if u have any other questions.
Does the stock factory subwoofer still work after putting an aftermarket head unit in?
No. Its powerd by the original head unit and amp so once u remove the head unit it wont work. U can install a new amp and wire it into the original harness but its pretty complicated. Its easier to just add new subs in the trunk.
Is the stereo Bluetooth?
doing this now
What did you do with the rest of the plugs you unclipped from/near the factory amp?
Bro probrably just shoved them aside as they aren't used anymore since this bypasses that amp
Can you link the dash trim kit that you bought?
Metra 99-8152 Single DIN Installation Kit for 1998-2003 Lexus GS300/400 www.amazon.com/dp/B0006Z9K32/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_C74NT2FJYWQ65KS3C78X
@@IMPACTRATED thank you
How and where did you ground it?
you can use a separate wire and just ground it to the dash's metal framework
Hi can i install a single din in my lexus gs300? i have the navigation system in mine
You can if u want ur just gonna have alot extra wires that ur not gonna use. U just need a single din mounting kit but if u have a nav u may as well go with the double din since the space is a already there.
Mine also has navigation and the thing holding me back from doing it is that the ac controls are on the touch screen
@@arielrodriguez9689 Im in the same situation as you, id assume if i wanted to isntall an aftermarket radio id need double din for weather controls and the after market radio right ?
@@arielrodriguez9689 just get a regular ac control i just did mine that was my concern too and it just plugged and worked fine
liked and subd
Thank You!
