- The Silver Wilkinson is a 'marmite fly' - you either love or hate it! I am definitely in the former camp and its rarely off my cast. This is a longtail version of the traditional Irish Shrimp version, good alternative for faster flows.
Tight lines and hold on tight!
Andrew is a Loop Akademi fly tyer (www.looptackle.com/loop-akadem...) and Loop pro team Ireland. He caught the ‘fishing bug’ early and now fishes mainly for Atlantic Salmon across Ireland and further afield, as well as large native ‘dollaghan trout’ in the Feeder Rivers of Lough Neagh. Ever since he caught his first fish on his own fly Andrew has been hooked on fly tying, and enjoys sharing and seeing others experience this first hand. As well as doing live fly tying demonstrations Andrew does online demos (Step by Steps) which you can see here on his CZcams channel. Andrew is also a regular contributor to magazines such as Trout and Salmon, Chasing Silver and Fly Fishing and Fly Tying.

You make it look easy. I need to add a few to my collection
Calvin’s aren’t bad either apparently.. especially for big fish 🎣😄👍👍
@@AndrewMcGall would you believe that I'm sitting watching the Calvin's video. Have one in the vice. Dodgy filming though
seamus donnelly aye hard to get a good camera man 😄.. or it could be the tyer lol
Thanks Andrew for doing this video you brilliant👍I going to start fly tying myself shortly need all the help I can get.you great to watch 😄cheers mark
Mark Halpin thanks Mark and good luck with the tying, can’t beat catching fish on your own flies. Tight lines!
I have a couple of similar flies in my box I'm in North Scotland but am sure they would work just the same Cheers for showing me how to tie them take it better using on low water
thanks John and your versions sound good, that's the beauty of tying.. you can create your own variation! I use this one in all water heights, usually doubles or singles in low to medium conditions and tubes in bigger water.
cracking fly and great video as all ways mate
Thanks Stewart, a fly def worth trying!
Really nice tie, great instruction I will look up the original just to see the difference. I love buck tail in a fly so I can't see anything wrong with this at all. Thanks for sharing, all the best to you. Sean
thanks Sean and I still use the original but I prefer the extra versatility of the longtail version. Tight lines for next season if you tie a few up!
Great job. Must get a few tied for the Roe.
Thanks and yep should work well on the Roe, tight lines 🎣😄👍
Great video thanks!
Thanks Fly Fisherman!
Andrew superb fly :)
Thanks Kris!
Great step by step and a great fly. A big asked but could you please do a step by step of the pearly spencer fly. I hear it's a great fly for the dollaghan.
+Philip Johnston thanks and its def a fly I have a lot of confidence in and wouldn't be without. Will see if I get the chance to do a Pearly Spencer over the close season, cheers Andrew
