  • Cult of the Lamb's story features the most vile villian yet, The One Who Waits Below. The Lore for this ancient God Narinder is sadder and darker the deeper we dive. Cult of the Lamb's lore is interesting, and the answers we find are actually really fun to speculate on, so enjoy the video!

@@danadoodles4560 Same as I thought. Lamb remain young, sleepless and vibrant while the flock die of old age all the time.
All the bishops had crowns too so, what these crowns actually do, no one knows. We know that 1: they have sapience 2: they were made by chesmerch - if I got that name right - but he never states from what. Maybe a passed away deity or perhaps something else entirely.
The video propose the red crown was given by one of the bishops. But I don't think that's the case. All of crowns are integral to their roles/power. Narinder was also the only of the bishops with a third eye. It's most likely Narinder was simply given a revelation from his brother about the nature of divinity itself in this world - it allows manipulation of reality. We know this because the lamb does it all the time with the crown via ritual -
I suspect that third eye is not naturally his. He got it, absorbed, grew it, something and THAT is why he was so much more powerful and had innate abilities. Would also explain his immortality despite his "pacified" form. It also explains why the lamb has to kill all of Narinder eyes - where he has stored his final bits of power without the crown - to defeat him. He may of also just had an insane level of strength because the other bishops were bigging him up for ages - all of their domains cause death -
Put it simply. Narinder as we see him in the end has no power left. He can stave off death but that must take everything he has, or is the lingering traits of his divinity. Notice that "form" is a representation of power. All of the enemies look weirder, bigger, more sinister, animalistic, strange creatures and even all the minibosses are monsters outright from the powers given to them.
It's strongly suggested in game that there were divines long, long ago and they died. Giving their bones and power to the earth. This is what uplifted the animals...but not all of them. Hence why normal animals exist. It's also why the more power they get, the more they change. But all cult members defeated or innately weak take on the typical lamb cult form. Narinder is pacified. Lamb avoid form change because the red crown is sort of...holding it for him. The power difference between them at this point is astronomical. Narinder is going to be waiting an eternity.

    • @Choujifangirl

After reading all of Narinder's quest dialogue, I felt a bit sad? He still cared for his siblings, if not a lot then just a small bit. With Leshy, he wondered if the flower's still bloomed since he is gone. Kallamar, reminiscing on how he had a beautiful temple. Heket... I don't know if he actually did care about her. Now lastly, Shamura, saying how she used to be the brightest of them and then becoming silent when you give them spider silk that reminds him of them. Now, he either did realize how much he cared for all of them now that they're dead, or all of this is false and I'm spewing dumb sh*t. If it's the first option, that makes me a bit sad.

His relationship with heket is implied to be bad. He says even after her through was slit, her words still hurt him. They always had. However Heket is fine with her other siblings. She seems to care especially for leshy (she mentions him a lot in her isolated dialogue. Even referring to him as “dear brother” something no other bishop does!) and shows concern for shamura. In their dialogue together (where she and kallamar inform shamura of leshys death) heket begins with “we didn’t mean to alarm you!” She’s trying to brace shamura for the news, however she is interrupted by kallamar who breaks it immediately. And she shows no real opinion on kallamar
She cares for all her siblings except Narinder, perhaps it has always been that way.
To think, even when they accepted him, Heket never even liked him is just depressing.

Honestly though, I'd love if they dropped a DLC where on a seperate save file, accessible only AFTER you beat the main game, you can play as Narinder in a past events timeline, see what drove him to start changing and growing restless and unhappy with how things were. I'd really like to EXPERIENCE his timeline, rather than just hear more about it, I feel like none of the five really got any spotlight on themselves, only a few key differences between them, Heket being protective over Shamura and their involvement in the situation, Kallamar being terrified of Narinder and the red crown, Leshy being the youngest... I feel like out of all of them Shamura got the most screen time and development as far as their personality and motivations went, we only got little snippets for the rest of them. I'd really love to see more of them when they were alive

The crowns seem sentient and almost parasitic in nature given the fact that the purple crown was attaching itself to Shamura's brain. Given the fact that Haro has the **dead white crown** on his head and wears the same robes as the bishops of the old faith (inverted colours) it is most likely that the condition for godhood/ascendancy in this world is if you claim ownership of one of the crowns and it accepts you. Haro escaped/freed himself from being a god/bishop by having his crown die, therefore not having to die himself whilst still being one of the 'forgotten gods'. Additionally, the fact that the red crown would have GLADLY gone back to Narinder should you choose to be sacrificed BUT also chooses to stay with you if you decide to keep it and fight against Narinder makes the red crown seem pickier and more decisive in its host. I want to know WHAT the crowns are and how they came about especially given how important they are to the story, but how absent the other crowns are in the game. When we kill a bishop, does the crown die too? If not, then where does it go? Do we take it back to the cult and make it those trophies/statues? If so, then why can't we pick them up and make our most loyal followers NEW bishops? I really hope the DLC addresses these things are doesn't just pull a "New decoration pack out now"

But for me even as it is now I cant take this game off my mind, its revitalized me with how refreshing the merging of these two gameplay styles is, the crusades are simple so you can jump straight into them from city building without a beat wasting no time letting you change up the gameplay, aswell as forcing you to use different weapons and curses every run, I feel like that does so much more for the game, since you have to approach the how you tackle encounters completely differently.

I think that Claunek is the one that gave Shamura the prophecy, the words at the start of the game were in Claunek's voice. Which also means Claunek is the one that gave Shamura the prophecy. This could also explain how Ratau got chosen. Narinder likely would've started trying to escape from the moment he was imprisoned and only discovered the prophecy after the bishops did. Meaning before he would've taken whatever he could get, after the prophecy waiting for the lamb. Another thing worth mentioning is that we're the last lamb, and I think choosing the last lamb to be sacrificed was intentional on Narinder's part. The prophecy says the lamb not a lamb, Narinder doing his best to follow the prophecy to the best of his abilities to best ensure freedom.

  • @gabriellemccormack1426

There's also some more hidden lore too. For instance, I remember hearing certain dialogue from Forneus - the large black cat who runs the shop with the cat icon tagged on - about having two kits she had to sacrifice to a god. I had a theory and did a google search out of curiosity, and sure enough on her wiki it is explicitly stated that her kits are Aym and Baal. There's no stated reason for why she had to sacrifice them, other than her saying that she couldn't oppose a god...
Then there's Haro: there's no definitive proof, but I think it's possible that he might have been one of the hundreds of gods that once existed that he spoke of in your first encounter with him. I mean, his hat looks awfully similar to the crowns that the bishops wear... maybe the "X" on it is meant to represent that the crown's power is either dead or limited. After all, all of the crowns have a variation of an "eye" on it, and an X'd eye often means a character is dead or unconscious in cartoons and/or anime/manga.

*Heket* is a goddess of fertility and childbirth with frog head from Ancient Egyptian mythology.
*Kallаmar* - in some languages similar word means "squid"
*Shamura* - dunno. There is a surname Шамура and (sur)names usually means something. But it could be coincidence.

    • @thomashummer6162
      @thomashummer6162 Před rokem

@Monologue This reply is super long, so TL;DR, even though the bishops are of the same or similar species as animals from their region, using the amount of eyes that an animal from their region has to determine the amount of eyes that they have is an incorrect assumption that requires huge leaps of logic to get to and can be easier explained with simple coincidence.
While it is correct that the enemies and bishops of the same region are based upon the same animals, the connection between these animals and the number of eyes that Leshy has is a strenuous connection, at best. I presume that you mean that the animals within the region that the bishop resides have a number of eyes corresponding to the amount of eyes that the bishop has. Correct me if I am wrong, but it is this argument that I will argue against.
There are 5 types of common enemies located solely in Darkwood, which is the same area in which Leshy resides. These are the Bat, the Chaser Worm, the Jumper Worm, the Burrowing Spike Worm, and the Burrowing Spit worm. let's focus on these one at a time.
The Bat is not related to Leshy's appearance, as Leshy is a caterpillar/worm (bagworm moth caterpillar is the animal species Leshy is based off of, if you are interested). The Chaser Worm only has 2 eyes, and both types of Burrowing worms lack any amount of eyes. This means that the only enemy that supports your argument is the Jumper Worm, which I do admit has 4 eyes. However, this seems to be coincidental rather than purposeful, which is supported by simply looking at the other bishops.
Heket has 4 eyes, but the enemies in Anura only ever have 2 eyes. The 3 frogs of this region, that being the Hopper, Burp Hopper, and the Mortar Hopper, can clearly be seen as having 2 eyes each. If your argument was correct, this would imply that Heket has 2 eyes, which she does not.
Kallamar has 2 eyes, residing within Anchordeep. Of his 11 enemies, 10 are jellyfish. Of all these jellyfish, 1 has 0 eyes, 4 have 1 eye, and 2 have 3 eyes. In all actuality, only 3 of these jellyfish have 2 eyes. This means that if we take the largest group, Kallamar should have 1 eye, which he does not.
Shamura is a spider which I claimed to have originally had 5 eyes. Looking at the 7 kinds of enemies, 4 are spiders. Of these spiders, 1 has 8 eyes and 3 have 12 eyes. Shamura, of course, has 4 eyes currently and 5 eyes previously, which is a trait that none of these enemies share.
Narinder is the last bishop to consider, but given that his only minions have 2 eyes each (ignoring the fact that Aym appears to have damaged his right eye), I believe that we can move on from this.
Concluding this, we can see that your logic could only work with 2 bishops and even then only if we exclude enemies which should have qualified anyway. In the end, it is clear that the connection between the bishops' amount of eyes and the amount of eyes that their minions have is thinner than a single sheet of paper. Sorry if this took long to read, but I had to make sure that all of the evidence was here.
e is an incorrect assumption that requires huge leaps of logic to get to and can be easier explained with simple coincidence.

I enjoyed playing the game too, and like you said, I think the combat is lacking a bit and could be improved on. What I don't particularly agree with is that It's missing lore. I don't think that every game has to have massive and fantastic lore, every game has their own area which they excel in. For example: Dark souls has lots of lore, a good combat sytem etc. but has some absolute bs areas like blighttown, TOtG, and Lost Izalith. Or Cuphead has amazing art, music plus bosses that are really fun to fight, but isn't exactly the easiest game in the world, which is a good thing from a certain point of view. Basically, every game is different and I think Cult of the Lamb excells at other things, such as the artstyle, the way you build your cult, by recruiting, expanding and performing rituals.

I made three reddit essays on the personalities and relationships between bishops. Haven’t done narinder yet. Might borrow some talking points…
But their relationships are so interesting. So here’s some paraphrasing of those essays
Leshy is the baby, no matter how old he is. He’s still weak and the other bishops know this. He has respect for his older siblings and a great deal of care for them.
Since he is not a reference to one of the four horsemen, and he came last, it’s possible he is FAR younger than the other bishops.
His relationship with heket has always been interesting to me.
When you defeat him and reach her domain, she mentions him a lot. She even calls him “dear brother” not even shamura does that when they talk about narinder. She’s probably very protective of him. It’s entirely possible, being the second youngest, she didn’t have as much responsibility and had time so she was there to guide him. Just a headcanon.
And here’s something special. Heket and Leshy are the only bishops with special dialogue if the other is dead when you reach them. As we know, our very first isolated encounter with heket is her yelling at us and starving our followers. If leshy is alive, her dialogue is far more relaxed. Perhaps her grief has turned to anger and she has nobody to blame but us
Leshy’s first isolated dialogue when heket is already dead is more aggressive than usual. Normally he just talks to us like we’re stupid and advises we run. But if his older sister has been slain, he threatens us with actual harm and also screams at us. Again, he’s angry. Anger is a form of grief.
This sticks out to me. The two oldest bishops, narinder and shamura, have a clear and established bond. And the two youngest have one that’s strongly implied.
But what about kallamar? His siblings find him to be weak. He is weak. He’s implied to not be the type to think ahead, as he believes we cannot harm him in his temple. Poor guy
They still have family bonds even if they appear more as work partners in the game. And it’s nice.

I wanna fight Bad Fox not sacrifice Ratau o.o

One thing I keep seeing and hearing regarding the combat is that it is boring or doesn’t have enough going for it but risk of rain and binding of Isaac are perfect examples of how the combat can be extremely simple yet satisfying, I just feel like it’s a very weak critique or argument in my opinion it feels like a cop out rather than it being an actual flaw, if that’s the case than I’d argue binding of Isaac combat system is just as bad if not worst since you have only ONE way to attack, which we all know just isn’t the case, I feel like too many people expected it to be like this combat heavy dungeon crawler when, it’s a rogue like, they all tend to be very simple in their combat designs and execution and it tends to work.

    My Theory:
So the "One who waits" also known as Narinder is the supposed god of death, well what I am speculating is that possible they are linked to Norse mythology.
My username is Rindr, Rindr/Rinder is the goddess of the frozen earth (Winter) And what does winter do? it makes everything that cannot handle the harsh weather wilt or die away, Maybe I sound absolutely off my rocker but hear me out. Narinder's base is all white, now yes this could be a design choice or it could possibly symbolize snow, also in their base, there are no trees/flowers as there are in any of the other bishop's rooms. The bishops have more natural-looking rooms as opposed to Narinders which is white and looks very dead, to add to this you walk much slower in their base and there are lumps of white ALL around This is just my speculation and it could totally be a coincidence but what if it wasn't? that would be cool >w

Do you know what makes the Bishop of Death's situation worse? If you look at the titles of the soundtracks of the two bosses before Narinder, then we will see "First Son, Baal" and "Second Son, Aim".
To live forever as a servant of your former servant, who took away your strength and power, and not only killed your brothers and sister, but also your two children-... that's the real horror.

This video kind of gives an interesting thought about Narinder mostly the line about being a follower is more fun while being a leader pays more or something as if to imply though he'd pissed he might actually enjoy not having to lead anymore(or at least until Lamb dies though maybe not since Lamb seems to be a god now) which makes it even funnier that the video for the new update Sins of the Flesh has him dancing naked with everyone while looking to enjoy himself
I think an interesting bit is Narinder's followers Baal and Aym, someone mentioned already that Forneus an NPC shopkeeper is their mom but it's possibly to revive them as followers before taking them with you & returning them to their mom.(Though do eventually leave to be a wanderer & a warrior with Forneus saying she's just glad they followed their hearts & she knew they'd have to leave one day) There's also dialogue were Narinder mentions he didn't take them they were gifts & Shamura also mentions Baal & Aym by rambling about two kits in their claws & that they were a gift to Narinder due to not wanting him to be lonely. Given this video is a year old you likely know but I just found it interesting since some others brought it up in the comment section.
