  • 13600K HUGE Speed BOOST! Today we take a look at the Intel Core i5 13600K and compare it to the i5 12600K using the same voltages, same RAM speed, and same cooling. Under those conditions I was able to achieve a 5.7Ghz OVERCLOCK using a basic AIR cooler.

    As a guy who swears by air cooling (currently nhd15 chromax) my next cpu is going to be from intel. Back when i was looking for new cpu to replace my 4790k and faulty mobo i decided to go with amd. I got x570 mobo and r7 3700x with the idea to upgrade to zen 3 top tier cpu. Year later i got 5950x which indeed had unrivaled multi thread performance and extremely good ipc and single core performance, the only cpu who truly dethroned it in most apps and games was 12900k. Everything would be good if not i had to rma it due to infamous whea 18 errors, buggy bios for each cpu 3700x and 5950x and the worst aspect high temps in gaming and other low load scenarios with air cooling. Currently my 5950x is working well but the low load temp issue is still present and will be as long as i will continue using it. I dont mind high temps in high loads because they are uncommon but high temps in low load scenarios is where i spend majority of my time on my pc and thats the issue so few people mention in reviews, because all they do is go to stress program and test it under stock power limits which in fact runs very cool. But in games its actually super hot architecture, with my stock 5950x i get ~75-85c in games and thats just uncomfortable even if its completely normal behavior of zen 3.
    The last amd cpu i used was amd socket A, sempron 2500+ 1.7ghz so you can imagine how long i have been with intel platforms, i dont mind trying something new but for foreseeable future i will stick with intel unless it will stagnate again like it did in 2011-2021 and so it happen i need a new cpu at that time

      @h1tzz those are some weird problems man. I'm on a 5900X with a lian li galahad 360 aio. Got the power limit on 225W which results in 4950mhz on 2 to 6 cores while gaming and it rarely goes over 70c. In cinebench r23 after 10 minutes it will hit 88.6c with 4650mhz on all cores. Have you tried remounting the cooler? Checked the spread of the thermal compound?

    • @h1tzzYT
      @h1tzzYT Před rokem

      @@wimpieeeeee yes i tried and did everything, it is normal behavior with air coolers because zen 3 has very high transient temp spikes, air coolers cant dissipate that fast enough. Try mounting any air cooler and you will see similar behavior at least at stock. My 5950x is cool as cucumber in cinebecnh because it reaches stock power limit quickly and heat is distributed equally across the die area, sitting at around ~67c, but once i try to load only couple of cores like most games do, 75-82 is pretty much what i get most of the time.

    • @wimpieeeeee
      @wimpieeeeee Před rokem

      @TechRIP Před rokem +4

      Yep. That's why every review from every tech tuber just concentrated on productivity even though they are usually 99.999% gaming focused. 13th gen falls flat. It's as bad as 11th gen.
      The 7700X is less than 5% slower than the 13900K in gaming. And it's almost $300 cheaper. And 13th gen isn't that much faster in productivity to make it worth buying a dead platform vs a brand new one. Intel users really need to wait for Meteor Lake. That's supposed to be a beast.

      @@dkimmortal Well, less than 5% slower and almost $300 cheaper at ~60% of the power. How can you not compare that? Plus, CS:GO is one of the most popular games and the 7700X beats the 13900K by over 100fps.
      Gaming is all that matters. We'll see if we can compare the 7700X to the 13700K to instead shortly, but so far, the 13900K is Intel's best gaming chip. And the 7600X smashes the 13600K in gaming by a country mile. It's won 99% of games shown. So, the 13700K better perform big time for the extra $50 over the 7700X.
      Maybe that's why all the Intel fanboys seem to think that productivity benchmarks are more important now. The tech tubers too. For the past 10 years it's always been about gaming and now for the past 3-4 days it's been nothing but productivity. Intel must have paid them. Intel has had no good reviews since 10th gen when they were gaming king.

    I've actually got my 13900K running at 5.9 all P-core with a -.015 mV offset on an NH-D15. Granted it's only stable at those frequencies w/ the e-cores (and HT) disabled otherwise it would be pushing well over 330 watts (sans ecores it is peaking at 230 watts). That being said, I can run all day at 54 P/43 E all core load with a -.095mV offset and that brings total package draw to somewhere ~290 watts at around 90-94 C. I can also confirm the memory controller is definitely improved and I was able to run 4000Mhz in gear 1 CL15. Unfortunately I still ran into the same issues I did with Alder Lake and couldn't run 4 banks of B-die @ those frequencies. Waiting on a set of that HP dual rank B-die to see how much of an improvement but my basic dual rank kit @ 3600 CL16 was roughly matching the single rank B-die @ 4000 in 3dmark.
    So far I'm very impressed with Raptor Lake. The 13900K seems to run lower temps at equivalent power draw to my old 12700K. My results on a rather basic micron dual rank DDR4 memory kit also seems to stomp what most review outlets were showing, with my best results in in CB23 pushing real close to 41K (multiple results between 40500-40800).

      I would keep your board, get a bios update if it has one, and drop in a 5700x, unless you really need 12 cores. You would save a lot of money and at 1440p I think you would be GPU bound with a 6800xt.
      If you can't reuse the board, then I would take the plunge and build new. I'd probably lean toward the 7600x/B650 route as you would certainly have upgrade options in the future. I think LGA 1700 has now upgrade path after Raptor Lake.

Even a 6 core Zen 2 at 5.7Ghz can do more than the 8 core zen 2 at 3.5Ghz console CPUs in terms of multitasking and single-task performance.
      If you go and check the Ryzen 5 5600x vs Ryzen 7 3700x in games you will notice that both have the same CPU usage in games, but the R5 5600x is faster by about 5-15%, so you have the same room for multi-tasking on both. A comparable system with DDR4 3600 with a same price point B660 motherboard as a B650 and same price point with ram...$683.00...Now with that initial $688.00 investment you will be able to upgrade to a hypothetical 9600X3d on the same motherboard and ram...intel 13th gen is a dead platform. So when building a computer that will last you 4 or 5 years will pay you dividends now in what it will save you in cost to upgrade later.

    how could you fall for this if you need to test cpu you can crank the settings and resolution down just to see how much is it better no need for high end gpu!!

      At 1080p which is a resolution NOBODY would use these cpus at. Watch David owen since he explains what cpu reviews actually mean in context. Look at the techpowerup review of the 8700k. It is literally no faster than a 1500 Ryzen 5 in 4k so why would you ever spend more money than a Ryzen 5 if 4k is your target resolution? This is how it has always been for midrange. Buy the midrange and put the money saved into your GPU. I have been reading hardware reviews for 25 years and this rule has always been the same. Mid range cpu high end gpu.

    What you call a "huge boost"? That would be 900%. 0-7% is nothing. How are games supposed to evolve in this situation? When CPUs barely move forward? For games to evolve we need orders of magnitude higher performance, not stagnating in one place. Downvoted for the utterly stupid title.

    The 13600k draws a TDP of 125W power, which is ten times my 2021 Ryzen 7 which nearly works as fast for most apps including Fortnite gaming. But hey, if you're an "enthusiast" or an Intel shill (we own stock in INTC so it's fine by me) by all means tout the 13600K, it's all good for us INTC shareholders.
