Close encounter with a gorilla

- What an incredible morning with the @kwisanga_family of gorillas. When we first arrived the clouds were darkening and the vegetation was thick. The trackers were trying to find views for us as the gorillas fed and the storm grew closer. What started as a drizzle turned into a torrential downpour and the gorillas found shelter and so did we.
When the rain finally passed all the gorillas started coming out of their hiding places and the males were trying to keep warm by chest beating. While watching another gorilla the Silverback came marching in from behind us and put on a show that won’t be forgotten in a hurry by our cool, calm and collected guest who handled the moment perfectly. She then moved out to make sure we kept a safe distance from the gorillas.
In theory we try and maintain a big distance but in reality it doesn’t always work out this way. Masks help us minimise any passing on of our diseases to them and distance is maintained as best as possible. We are also limited to 1 hour with the family as this is the point at which the chance of sharing our diseases with them exponentially increases.
This was filmed a privately guided conservation safari which we put together with @arcearthtravel.
This was a display of gorilla dominance and there was no direct interference from us.

Every zoo I have ever been has a sign that reads "DO NOT STARE DIRECTLY AT THE MALE GORILLA." You are essentially challenging him and the fact that he didnt crack your skull is beyond me.
It’s best to keep low when around wild gorillas for that very reason. Eyeline from a taller position comes off as more threatening. If you were to sit and make direct eye contact with the Gorillas at the zoo, they’d be much less likely to see it as a challenge
Observe que quando o Gorila levanto o fotógrafo abaixa a cabeça como sinal de respeito e por isso ele não é atacado. As pessoas esquecem que primatas são muito inteligentes e tem códigos sociais.

Gorillas are awesome! And despite what most ppl think, they're very gentle animals.
I saw a silverback at London Zoo a few years ago. It was truly one of the most heartbreaking sights I've ever seen. He looked so human, so self-aware. He returned your gaze as though he knew the shit in his situation.
That silverback didn't want to hurt anyone, he just wanted his boundaries respected and his family safe
Painful confusion
You're completely wrong, that was a sign of aggresion, the gorilla didnt attack not because he "didnt want to hurt anyone" he didn't attack because you can't afford possibly getting hurt over nothing
@@shubhuman if the silverback wanted to hurt them, they would have been dead. No human is going to survive an attack from a silverback who has decided that the human is a viable threat and worth the energy expenditure of a true attack.
Humans do some dumb stuff around animals, and then get upset when natural consequences follow dumb choices.
Looking a silverback in the eye, smiling, sudden movements, and not respecting established boundaries are dumb human choices.

@@Lazy_Fish_Keeper except the gorilla has no idea how strong a human is, animals just have the instinct to avoid conflict if possible and humans being tall is enough for the gorilla to register as a possible threat

They’re gentle vegetarians. They avoid conflict and very very rarely become aggressive. In fact, one of my teachers said most of them are quite fearful.
They are afraid of rain, and are terrified of some insects, particularly caterpillars. Unfamiliar surroundings make them almost shut down completely.
