- Getting around Sydney without a car is easy! Here I show you what you need, and what types of transport Sydney has to offer.
Opal cards can be picked up at train stations, supermarkets and newsagents but you don't need one. It is a lot easier using your contactless bank card.
PRO TIP: Any remaining credit CAN NOT be refunded to foreign bank accounts, so if you have a contactless bank card and are only in town a few days USE YOUR BANK CARD to save you from having unused credit on your Opal card!

I think you missed to mentioned the fact that with Opal all the connecting travels (train+bus for example) is counted as one travel, thus you do not pay each individual trips. And if tap your Opal within an hour, it's counted as 'transfer' - a discounted trip connecting previous trip.
Sydney is such a incredible place to visit. I would like to go to Sydney and Australia and to enjoy what it’s got including trains and transport.
Cuties, babies of all kind are the most precious there is.
Love them, care them and grow them strong and smart.
Come take a look :)))
You accidentally used the old map that included the t6 train line at the beginning. The t6 line was disbanded since 2020, so to anyone whos new, there isnt a train line to carlingford, but theres a new light rail to carlingford from Parramatta comming very soon
The boundaries of Sydney Transport are Huge.
Goulburn to the south, Nowra on the south coast, Bathurst to the West, Newcastle, Maitland, Scone, Dungog in the north. Given the maximum fair, daily cap, weekly cap, half price 3 day weekends, it is dirt cheap.
That is 460km north to south and over 100km to the west!
Maximum of $11.80 one way during week. Max $17.80 per day. Max $8.90 Fri, Sat, Sun.
Bargain!
There is an Opal app for your phone that also assists with planning how to get somewhere, timetables, routes etc
this video helped, thank uuuu
Hey! Great video. Where did you find out the information about price ranges during peak and off peak times?
Good video but I find the constant lowering and highering of the music volume irritating.
Thanks for the comment, I’ll try to have it not as extreme next time.
As someone from Melbourne used to the Myki system, I keep wondering a few things about the ability to use contact less (visa/mastercard) to pay for travel. Eg how do they catch fare evaders & how do find out information about your journey. I suppose you can check how much you paid by checking your bank, but what about the other information?
I like it Josh' - oh! Oy
Can you use a combination of trains, buses, and ferries to hit the daily maximum? For example, can you go to Downtown Sydney by bus and train from Bondi Beach and then use the ferry to go to Manly Beach? Would you only pay the daily maximum cap? Also, would that also apply to the weekly cap? If I'm correct, then would the maximum for the week be $50 AUD? If you are there for two different weeks, then would the Maximum of all NSW travel be $100 AUD for the two weeks? Thanks for your assistance.
Am I required to tap on and off inside the Train? Or tapping on and off when entering the train station is enough? This may sound trivial but I am using it soon and I’ve never been there before. Thank you, and very helpful video!
No need to tap on and off on the train, just as you enter and exit the station gates. If there’s no gates there will be a tap point at the entrance.
❤❤
Sorry if this is a silly question, but I don't want to assume anything. Are the prices you mention in the video in Australian dollars? Thank you!
All Australian $$
Why would it be in anything else?
Hi, what is the name of the beach is in 5:06 ?
It was quite a while ago so I can’t fully remember, but I’m pretty sure it’s Mona Vale beach.
As a tourist who will be in Sydney for one week. Where/ how to refund opal card before we leave? Please advise. Thanks.
just use your contactless debit/credit card instead of getting an opal.
@@carisi2k11 im also just passing thru from a small country town far up in the Nth East of the state. If i dont have a credit or debit card what do i do? Im older gen and pay cash for everything.
@@gypsysteve3576you can buy an opal at a convenience store with cash
@@gypsysteve3576 you will need to buy an opal card if you can't pay using a credit or debit card, as our public transport system have completely phased out individual paper tickets and cash payments many years ago. All our public transport only use the opal system now, so either buy an opal card or you'd need to pay using your credit or debit card.
@@gypsysteve3576sorry this is late, but you can buy an opal card with cash (there’s usually one in each station). And then if you have a phone you can go on transport NSW and see how much a total trip would be. If you travel on a Sunday it’s really cheap. Every other day gets expensive but there’s a cap. I’d put like $20 cash on at first and then take note of how much you left and how much your trip would be.
Hie Josh, u mentioned Daily fare charges means I can travel unlimited rides thru out the day that priced at $16.80 per day?
the daily fare charge is the max you need to pay in a single day. meaning in a single day you can travel as much as you want and you will only pay that amount at most
@@aussiedogfighter285 thx man
Not very good service better in public hands
Meh..
