I think the Cosmic skinline is great when they don't give them human faces and actually make them look like unknowable beings. Like I absolutely adore Jhin, Orianna, Shaco, Thresh... But I wouldn't use Jarvan or Lissandra's skins if they were given to me for free.
Same thing with the Project skin line, it fell off once they started giving them more human faces.

@@crueladepill1750 Yeah, you're not wrong, Lyssandra's skin is actually pretty nice... Although I still think they could've gone a bit harder on her clothes and the "hollow head" aspect. But it might also just be that I'm comparing her to Jhin, which is a legendary skin, so obviously higher production value and design flexibility ^^
The human faces problem is especially prevalent in the "good guys" side of the skinline with the likes of Nidalee, Nami or and Ashe. Makes them much less interesting to look at, I think
thats why i hate that they made lux the dark star personified. the dark star is supposed to be the origin of all these monsters, and now it looks like...a big purple girl. a big purple girl is the origin of things like dark star shaco, thresh or cho'gath. *sigh* cant really take the skinline serious after that

Hot take but I think Belveth actually worked better than expected in this skin line, lore wise she imbued her power into those she deems worth, that's her minion gimmick, she imbued them with her power.

Dark star Jhin is his best skin imo and I love the look of this new chroma but I am not going to spend 200$ ( which in my currency translates to like 2 month of groceries) on it :(. Shame, I got really excited when I first saw this chrome thinking I might get it

I just really like the aesthetic of cosmic tbh. Like my favourite skin in the game is cosmic enchantress Lulu and I don’t even play her XD. I don’t care how many they release, they’ll (hopefully) always be cool to me.

My favourite part of this cosmic batch is the skin bios. Idk, I just really get a joy out of seeing how they integrate and retell the story of a champ while keeping some key elements of their character in place. Same goes for Street demons.
Personally, I think Bel'Veth's matriarch role fits her half-monster design far more than her original concept. She probably uses her human-esque form to appear friendlier whenever she approaches a potential paladin. While she uses her monster form to fight Dark Star entities. It's reminiscent to a protective parent. Sweet and caring to their own children, while being hostile to those that would threaten them.

Good god, and i thought that with Ashen Knight Pyke was a signal that we were going to get better skins from there on, how wrong was I... An ultimate skin that has only the value of a legendary and costs as much as Elementalist Lux and now a Chroma for what is almost minimun wage on my country... (I'm brazilian, here it costs 700 BRL, minimun wage is 1100 bucks)

Jhins been my main adc almost since he came out. The new chroma looks so good I was so excited to earn it, i thought it would be some kind of exclusive thing like mentioned. But having to pay 200 dollars for a recolor of my favourite skin in the game to my favourite colors is such a kick to the face.
Shit would make me cry. If this ever happens to my mains (especially ahri cuz she's my longest and main main and I'm looking to get all skins even ones I don't like) I will be so pissed cuz I don't have 200 bucks just laying around but I need all the skins and riot knows that their players r like this and so they know they will get complaints but ppl will STILL BUY IT

Yesterday when I was warming up in Players VS AI for a Ranked game, someone picked Jhin with the Dark Erasure skin, along with the border which show they dropped even more money on it. Where I live, 200-220 dollars is a lot. It's almost a monthly wage.
Cosmic (along with the rest of Event Horizon) is my favourite skinline and now that Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin is a thing it sucks that the skinline will now be associated more with predatory gacha mechanics instead of being a nice skinline with fantastic particle effects.
is it predatory to make a price tag high enough to make the majority of players reconsider buying cosmetic pixels?
@@Crusader3454 yes because it's preying on those who have no self control, those kinds of people who might spend money on the game every now and then but are now being faced with a skin they might not be able to get ever again unless they pay up now.
It's worse if that hypothetical person mains Jhin and wants everything related to Jhin. I do know that they said DCE Jhin would be put into the reroll pool after a while but the chances of getting mythic skins from rerolls is so low that unless you own every skin possible you're most likely not going to get the skin ever.

The worst part is, it's not even really gacha. In gacha you still have the chance to hit that 1% pull with like $10. Here, you only have a guaranteed after $200.
@@Cheonma The capsules in the client say there is a 1% chance to get DCE Jhin when you open the capsule so it absolutely is gacha and they legally are not allowed to lie about drop chances in loot box systems like these capsules.
I already ran into someone with Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin. In a NORMAL. The account was UNRANKED and played ARAMS 90% of the time.
I was literally disgusted because it told me yeah legit people would pay $200 for a (imo uglier version) for a chroma, instead of y'know something actually worth $200.

I kinda liked the last batch (partially Skarner bias getting my boy out of the 2000 day club) because a good few of them represented star signs (Sagittarius, Scorpio etc.)

Honestly, I really do like the Cosmic skins (when done well). The visual effects are the big sell, even Cosmic Lux I prefer because I like her glittery star vfx more than the Dark Cosmic ones. This batch really feels out of place though. The Cosmic Paladins is a neat idea, but it really does just feel like Stargazer without the name. Bel'veth is definitely my favourite in this one just cause she *is* a Cosmic.
Knowing now that the Cosmic Court was destroyed in the wake of Lux's corruption, I really wish Cosmic Lux won instead. I feel like it would have been a more interesting story direction if Lux could take what she learned by resisting her own inner darkness and using that to help restore the Cosmics that have fallen to corruption. Of course that would just be an excuse to make Cosmic versions of the Corruptants, but story wise I think it would have been a more compelling story, one of redemption.
You know. If Riot ever did any real followup to its universes.
Same thoughts. When the event arrive I remember choosing the Cosmic side even though I already knew darkness would win. Players always like dark/edgy better in LoL. Maybe the next skin line there's a cosmic saviour who brings Lux back end the great cosmic war starts. Let's not forget that also Star Guardian Kai Sa saw the dark stars, so they might join the fight.
@@erickdiazmartinez5980 I won’t lie, I did choose Dark Cosmic to win too. I’d found the Dark Star skins cooler up to that point. After I thought about it more and as I used both, though, that’s when my preference changed. But like you said, everyone loves the dark and edgy, so DC was kind of the obvious winner before it even started.
I do wonder how, if at all, the crossovers of the Dark Star into other universes will play out. Syndra in Star Guardian, Rhaast in Odyssey, I have to wonder if Riot will ever pay off these set-ups

I like the particle effects in the cosmic line and generally I think they all look very nice. I'm actually stoked for cosmic bel'veth, I think the aesthetic suits her a lot.

my biggest fear with this right now is that we already know the redeemed star guardian skins are set for this year, but the fact that they pushed it to later and then have this new system be released in between scares me
When asked about it, riot said they wouldn't push this model onto Xayah and Rakan....for now.

I like the recolor of the cosmic Jhin, I own all Jhin skins, but I don't intend on buying the skin, hopefully I can roll into it, be happy, and keeping on only playing high noon or project because I love the sound effects over all other Jhin skins.

A bit late to comment but in German The Description of the Jhin ,,Skin,, is : Perfekte Vernichtung du wirst keinen Unterschied merken (Perfect Destruction you wont see any diffrence) and i think thats very fitting

What is so disheartening is that even if a few people buy the Jhin chroma, Riot will see it as a success because it is SO expensive. All it takes is a few financially blind whales to buy it and Riot gets all the confirmation they need.
I mean, acknowledging that there are people out there who would be willing to buy your product because of the price specifically isn't really evil. It's not like Riot lies to you about what it is.

I come from Path of Exile where people LOVE cosmic skins. A lot. But then again, there it's somewhat lore-related and there's more of an eldritch horror vibe to it.

I actually kinda like Cosmic, just because blue is a really nice soft color and the stars aesthetic usually leads to neat vfx for any AoE ability.
I did meet a guy who had a recording of him getting the jhin chroma on his second capsule. the god of luck is real.
Bel is one of the few I actually enjoy the cosmic treatment for, since its an inversion of her otherworldly nature coming from a heavenly space angle instead of the void angle. Same reason I like the Kassadin one. If those two were the only ones in the skinline I would be content.

Nautilus needed to be like a cosmoc sailor his hook a astrolabe/charting tool. Or have some sort of planet influence instead of pure cosmic. Like imagine if his body had like Jupitor for a core in the center and the hook be the many moons or a astroid belt. And his sheild could have been a fricken planetary ring like saturn.
When the cosmic skins are done right (I really like jhin and dark cosmic lux personally) I find them to be some of my favourite skins, when they're not I forget they exist.
For years and years, I wanted and hoped for Dark Star Sion. His soul furnace realized as a black hole, his terrifying scale expanding with everything he devours, carrying an axe that can lop off galactic arms... Alas, that hope has been dashed.

When I did play, I wanted a cosmic skin for my main. I wanted Cosmic Destroyer Urgot because in the natural flow of existence on the cosmic scale, destruction is necessary for the new to emerge, specifically for elements heavier than iron to form, a star has to undergo a supernova. Urgot as an avatar of that generative, necessary destruction would have been really cool as a concept, at least in my opinion.
