- A live performance of An Audience with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull presented by All Flutes Plus at Bolivar Hall W1T 5DL filmed by Smallhill Productions and Bryn Reade. Ian Anderson plays and talks about his career, answering questions from the audience, joined at the end by Ian Mullin to play Grimenillis Lament and improvising. An honest and rare up close and personal appearance in front of just 150 people from a true musical legend.
Without a doubt...one of the greatest song writers, flute, guitar, keyboard and wizard of music of all origins...A legend of "ROCK AND ROLL"...Keep on playing great music and songs Ian Anderson....I Love your music...
Agreed.
One of the few bands from my youth I still hear! I started at 15 or 16 and never stopped ever since!
I got my first album at 14 YO. Columbia record club 12 albums for 99 cents......I was bad, I never paid a penny.
Ian Anderson will always reside in the Pantheon of Music Gods. The influence of his words and music is immeasurable.
Besides a gifted singer / songwriter, Ian is an incredibly articulate guy...doesn’t get enough kudos for being so exceptionally well spoken!
Xiaomi
Ian Anderson plays his flute
@@vidarhansenask5370 - what is meant by Xiaomi ?
Not your average rock star. Even back in the day, articulate, accomplished, focused, prepared, professional, sober, business-savvy. Dude's been across the whole gig since day one.
Very gifted man .PURE TALENT!!
Ian Anderson is a brilliant exquisite musician - inspiring my entire life on flute
you all probably dont give a shit but does any of you know a tool to get back into an Instagram account..?
I was stupid lost my login password. I would love any assistance you can give me
@Braylen Korbyn instablaster :)
@Grady Santiago Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Grady Santiago It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my account!
@Braylen Korbyn Glad I could help xD
This guy is really motivated by the music. Played to huge audiences for decades and still does this for a small audience of flutists. All that fame.... money presumably..... but it's still the music. Very nice.
It even feels like honour to be able to watch it on youtube
"Living In The Past" is almost THE quintessential "flute in rock music" song!
In another life, perhaps, Ian Anderson might have been an absolutely brilliant classical musician - and right up there with the very best.
He still is - up there, I mean.
I loved hearing all about how he got started playing the flute, and all that goes with it. He is an amazing man of outstanding talent!
He is a SUPERSTAR who is totally down-to-earth. A great many of today's wannabees could learn a great deal about humility from him. A master musician and composer. He was born in the same town as me and has always been one of my favourite musicians. Coupled with Martin Barre, they formed one of the best bands ever.
He's so great! and very personable in interviews, I've noticed. Very cool guy!
Ya know, watching this in 2020 at 55, growing up with rock music, i felt quite sad that someday this guy won't be with us anymore. We will have lost a unique genius, a one off....An Ian Anderson
you won't be far behind him. 25 to 30 more years if your lucky.
Great, Great, Great! Ian Anderson is a Superstar! Saw Jethro Tull once in Moscow and they were wonderful in concert! I am Russian, but Jethro Tull were always my Favourite Band and will always be! Thanks VERY much, Ian!
Ian is just a gift to the world. ‘Benefit’ and ‘Living in the Past’ are genius works spearheaded by this man’s virtuosic flute, acoustic guitar, vocal, and compositional creativity that have kept me spellbound endlessly. Thanks for posting this!
It has quite an effect on me ..while watching a genius at work ..in such close quarters...like watching the professor performing 🎭..🤔I am mesmerized..😵💫
A true legend, and I still listen to Thick as a brick all the time.
Ian is prolific and has a very interesting intellect probably a genius I met him once at the civic theater got his autogragh he actually scolded me for talking to much told me to wait my turn it wasa great experience. He is still going strong after all of those years ........thanks for the music Ian I have learned many a lesson from your lyrics although lm THICK AS A BRICK you have helped me understand certain realities of life with a sense humor thanks good luck to you
wow ! especially the Seth Lakeman tunes at the end
Saw Tull many times and truly love not only the raw brilliant talent of Ian and crew but the stage presence inclusive of theatrics and erudite repartee with the the audience!!!
Thank you so much for bringing this to a wider circle of Ian Anderson's gifts, musicality, insights reflecting the real and now an understanding of his philosophical leanings toward education and trust in one's own self - a beautiful sentiment and essential message to cultivate.
I have no reservations in saying how important Ian has been in my life. Because, in the end, it's the people that have brought us joy that are important and Ian has certainly done that for me for many decades.
Grazie Ian Anderson. Sei il mio artista preferito. Da sempre e per sempre. Grandissimo front man! God bless you.
I dare any of the so called artists of today even come close to composing like Ian. A true Composer/Musician
That energy this man had on stage with Tull- as he still after two sweating hour's, hold the tune; well; almost unbelivable ---
IAN IS A REAL GENIOUS REGARDIMG IS MISICAL TALENT ONE OF THE BEST FOR 7 DECADE KEEP THE LEGEND ALIVE..
Love Ian such a positive influence in rock.
Don’t care what anyone thinks Ian was one of the top musicians out of the 60s. I personally rank Tull higher than the Beatles
Well I won't be listening to any more of your opinions in that case. But I am here as a Jethro Tull Fan.
Tull is my favorite band..but you can't compare them to the Beatles or any other band for that matter...you have to compare apples with apples..yes?
What a rare privilege. Thank you for sharing.
Please pardon my language, but what a fucking marvelous video.
Thanks so much for making and uploading it. Brilliant.
Oh......beautiful !!What more is there to say? This man doesn't even need a sheet!!Simply plays from his brain and heart .
A very modest man when he talks about his flute expertise. This guy is a superb player of the magical flute..!!
I hope they knew they were in the presence of greatness
It's how the flute wafts above the original melody that so interests me. Part of it, but above it, somehow. Love Ian's playing most of my life!
Great way of describing the playing! Like a butterfly fluttering above!
He's SO Awesome!
I Love The Way Ian Uses the Flute And His Humming.....
GENIUS!!!! I should have been there..........!
Our Audience with Ian Anderson video is finally edited and uploaded from the All Flutes Plus event @ Bolivar Hall on 1st Feb 2014
+All Flutes Plus thanks from chile :DDDDDD
All Flutes Plus IAN..........LOUDER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow can't wait to watch it
Mozart, Beethoven, Bach,Handel etc ..would be sat in Audience , just listening in appreciation…..
MAESTRO!
Great Ian Anderson
Ian & Ian jamming
No one seemed to "stand up" and applaud 👏
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I've always loved Tull and Ian Anderson in particular, I could listen to him talk and play all day.
Wow, that was 1st RATE! What a brilliant guy!!
I love Ian, Have always been a huge fan, if you put 99 flute players and Ian in a room and blindfolded me, I could tell when he would play, such a unique sound, Truely a master of the flute :)
+Computer Whizz 1999 Two throat surgeries will do that to a singer. ;)
Ian you are the legend.
In Poland late'60- and in AUSTRALIA - FOREVER!!!
Great musician, great man !!
Ian Anderson certainly did a fine job lecturing to the audience about his flute style of playing and his musical career whether solo or with Tull. And I'm sure this well-behaved audience has learned a lesson or two from it.
I have been a Tull fan since I first heard about them c1967.
A band led by a guy who plays flute how crazy is that?
But it’s only partly about him it’s rather about the music and on that front the man is a musical genius!
I admit I haven’t liked everything they’ve produced but that’s the way it goes,I don’t like all of any other bands music either but I admire their ability to create it.
Mores the point Ian has character, wit, intelligence and an opinion which is far more than you will ever see from most front men.
Ian…….massive respect and admiration.
I loved every minute. Many thanks to Ian and All Flutes Plus. One more next year I hope
great, he is still an entertaining fellow and great musician and composer.
Magical Mr Anderson
what a beast. i wish i was there. just wow!. hes amazing :D a real artist
23:14 LOL I like how the cameraman panned to his legs hoping he would do his famous stand on one leg thing, but he doesn't seem to do that anymore. A true Tull fan would know what I mean.
MDKArtist lol, yup. 2000 kids dont know what true music was
most of them*
MDKArtist his one leg stand is so famous that i kno what ur talking about. and im not a huge tull fan myself :)
He did do it once and the audience reaction was great.
@@MiatacrosserAt about 25:18
Just recently started playing flute Ian Anderson is one of my biggest hero’s as a flute player and song writer this was really cool to watch I think he’s one of the greatest frontmen of all time to
oh man, i would like to have been there, i love the way he plays the flute
The first piece I recognized from his solo album "12 Dances with God". Truly a great work from a genius musician!
If I were there during that last song, I would be up dancing and jumping everywhere!
Ein wahrer Gigant. Er hat sich jetzt schon verewigt. Ein echter Sir.
I sure enjoyed watching this up close and personal video of the brilliant Ian Anderson. Thanks so very much.
Funny, I had about as much hair as he did in 1972, and now I have about as much hair as he has in 2014... I just lack all of his amazing talent.
A honor to still follow and love watching, listening and still learning from such a great artist
I could listen to Ian play flute for days
The best there is! Love his music.
O-M-G, what a TREAT this is ! Just what I've been looking for. Thanks so much.
what a great video!
I just loved the audience reaction at the end...I was rocking out, but you could hear a pin drop with the audience! So funny! I love you, Ian!!!!
Meredith Brown 😉😚😊🇺🇸✌
What a treat, the truly origional My Anderson. Thank you poster
Saw Jethro tull at their first festival at sunbery I play saxophone but after seeing ian and his great playing got a fute took me ages to get notes out of it but now 50 years on still playing it thanks ian for your insperation
This is brilliant. As with his music, Anderson presents so incredibly well, as if rehearsed for weeks, yet feels so completely natural and off-the-cuff. Thanks All Flutes Plus for this. Thanks Ian Anderson for everything you do!
I saw Tull in the early 80s a couple times and became a Jethro Tull fan. Ian's talent with the flute is amazing in concert with blow away skill while all over the stage. This concert is amazing. Thanks for posting it.
What a fantastic man !
That was Wonderful! Thanks for sharing
The acoustics of the hall really brought out Ian Anderson's flute and it sounds beautiful! I especially like the Irish tune.
Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull has an impeccable sense of rhythm - better than any other :)
I always liked Jethro Tull but never knew Ian Anderson was such a cool down to earth guy.
Amazing!! Love Ian!
This was just fantastic!
A great event, thanks for staging it and sharing the video.
No problem just very thankful to Ian Anderson for agreeing to do such an intimate and amazing event!:)
All Flutes Plus
I wish Ian would start doing just instrumental concerts...I would be first in line to buy my ticket. Thanks for this posting Pat, I enjoyed it immensely!
Bravo 👏!!! Thanks for sharing this wonderful event😃)))
I like how he starts with a piece from my Divinities, one of my all-time favourite albums since I happened to see it and bought it in 1995 just a few weeks after it was released.
Very very nice. God bless you, Ian. A treasure, indeed!
The man is a living God.. I had some of the most SPIRITUAL experience listening to his flute solos
danuggman I'd love if these had time's for each solo... I'm "Living in the Past"
Paul noneofyabusiness You're opinion... The man was sitting 2nd chair at 18... what do you do? Gonna tell me Syd Barrett was an idiot cuz he had diabetes? There's MUSIC(why I COME to youtube) and jagoffs like you who come to fight. Go somewhere else I ain't gonna reply
danuggman you just did.
Very interesting video, wish I'd been there. My hat goes off to you Ian Mullin for jamming with Ian A. You did look terrified to start with but by the end you were letting yourself go (well almost!). Keep it up - we need that next generation of innovative flute players, you've definitely got it!
All that was missing for me was someone to ask Ian how he creates that breathy effect that is such a hallmark of his playing. Such a brilliant contrast to clear tone playing.
En mi opinión Anderson es un gran intérprete, compositor, poeta y actor, además de honesto y fiel a sí mismo, generoso y respetuoso con el público. Siempre ofreciendo lo mejor de sí mismo. Bravo bravísimo!
Great stuff! I love Ian's wit!
What blows my mind is how Mr. Anderson is so accomplished and has no classical training.
Amazing.
I guess love of music and personal discipline make up the difference.
Simply Awesome Ian Anderson Rock On!!
Thanks for publishing this video!
fantastico!! Spero un giorno di poter suonare con lui!
What a treat. Thank you for posting this. I've been a fan of Jethro Tull ever since I first heard Stand Up in 1969. Jethro Tull and the Moody Blues showed me how great rock music could be. A thinking man's kind of music and as we all know, thinking is the best way to travel.
Ok. This is incredible, especially as I took flute as a youngster 'cause I was such an Ian-Tull fan. Love this guy. Really love his music. Love his intellect. Very interesting lecture on the flute and on music.
this is an absolutely brilliant piece of film
Amazing! Many thanks to Ian and AFP for bringing us this incredible event and sharing the vídeo. Hope to have the chance of taking part in one of this some day. Perhaps here in Brazil!
I love him!
Eurology is really nice ! What a lucky audience.
Ian, You are the Best, thanks for this video, I have Seen you in Concert since 1970 , Starting out in Detroit at the Eastown Theater, Cousin Figel
If I had had access to Jethro Tull/Ian's music as a youth I would have spent more time with the flute than I did (though I still have one). Sadly, I focused on Brass and ended up only LOOKING like Ian. Ah well.
Love to see one of these with the awesome Thijs Van Leer from Focus too
This is really awesome...Thanks for posting.
It's interesting that three of my favourite bands - Marshall Tucker, Focus and, of course, Jethro Tull, all feature flute as their main instrumental sound.
Andrew Gruffudd Jerry Eubanks was not only a great flute player but a hellva sax player too. He definitely gave the Marshall Tucker Band quite a unique sound. But the the lead instrumentalist in that band was Toy Caldwell.
Locomotive Breath , perfect ending!
