      What about extension intolerance? After heavy squats, I feel it in my lower back when I stand up, straiten up etc. Leaning forward, bending over, doesn't trigger the discomfort, but moving into lordosis does. Deadlift does not bother my back but squats do. I don't feel any change in discomfort from either compression test, but after the arched compression test, straitening up is uncomfortable.

    Tweaked my back during squats on Saturday and sitting at a cubicle for 8 hours today felt like it made it worse. Did this when I got home and OMG, you are a life saver! I was struggling putting on my socks and bending over. Having a much easier time!

      I was doing squats about 40 on under my pr and just got lazy with my form, exact same issue and doing this also helped me. I wish I knew this like a year ago because recovery took about a week.
      For sitting, get a lifting belt and put it on. It will support your back during the day when it hurts while sitting in a chair

      Buy Back Mechanic and listen to Stuart McGills podcasts.
      If you have bulging/herniated disc no pain doesn't mean that disc is healed.
      Be careful and don't kill yourself in training.

    This video was extremely helpful to me. I’m a weightlifter and yesterday I was lifting heavy and during the lift but especially after my back got super tight, stiff, and painful. Super lucky for me that you dropped this video today and I saw it on your Instagram story. I was able to get a lot of relief and watching your videos I figured out I have really bad ankle mobility, and an imbalance in hip mobility that is making it hard for me to perform a proper squat.

      I'm not even a weight lifter but I've struggled with low back pain, and just back pain in general for years, hopeful this will help, I'd like to get started back at my local Gym but I'm afraid to push myself because I'm already in pain just from my everyday life (I know that probably sounds like an excuse but my point is that I don't want to exacerbate my pain by working out without actually dealing with the problems causing said pain, hence my hesitation).

    • @nyquist_control
      @nyquist_control Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@griffins750I think you have the right idea. Take it very slow. Focus on strengthening (particularly your core), stability and mobility and you'll significantly reduce your chance of injury.

    Following Dr. Stewart Mcgill and living by the words in his book literally gave me my life back. i went from spending most of my day on the floor in horrible unfathomable pain to now squatting again with no pain day to day. It is really great to see a PT spreading his word. Keep up the awesome work and the great informative videos.

  • @johnwick57239

    Brother, you changed my life. I've been dealing with a lower back injury for over a year from lifting. Was out for awhile, then got to the point where I was trying to stretch the glutes, psoas, back.. Everything that was "tight", thinking that was the problem. And none of that was helping. Temporary relief and that was it. So I ended up just pushing through workouts, just trying to brace the core and push through the pain, since it didn't seem to be getting worse. But the worse days were just after long car rides, or sitting at work, and then trying to bend over. Felt like an 80 year old man. Even tried some of your videos, and nothing seemed to help. Then I came across this video.. And I thought, what the heck, it makes sense what you're saying and the stretches are slightly different from some other videos.. I felt almost instant relief the night I started them. The next day was the best I've felt in about a year. Today, I felt just as good but started having a little relapse tonight after bending a few ways I, probably shouldnt have. Just finished up another set and I feel really good again.
    I hope things keep improving and I'm, eventually back to normal. That's hope I didnt have last week. At the very least, I'm feeling better, and that's a win. But if I keep working at it, I actually have hope now that I can fully recover!

Since only about 3 days ago I finally wake up pain-free in the morning :) Also stopped doing the bend-over-and-touch-my-toes excercice. I hear its not safe for lumbar discs. Afraid it could be not just a small injury ( searched for disc and sciatica, but increase my worry cos I have no idea what that is). I’ve been stretching and exercising for 5 days straight but it still hurt. Not sure if I should force it when it hurts thinking I just lack movements on my muscle and nerve due to my work(sitting more than 8 hrs a day).

My back has been wonderful, and then when I attempted some heavy squats *after warming up* my lower back injury flaired up again. It’s an odd sensation, in my lower lumbar right in the outside of my lumbar spine. It feels super tight and no matter what I do I can’t get it to release. As well, I feel like no matter what mobility techniques I do I can’t get my hips to open up and release either.

    Thank you. I didn't tweak my Lower right while working out. I simply got up from my 'ergo' chair. I do have degenerative disc syndrome down there. Military stuff...lol. Some of these moves did exacerbate some slight discomfort. Any guidance? Thanks Doc!!
