It worked 100% right away. Thank you. Old white shell MacBook that I forgot the password to. The reset was simple and exactly as described in the video.
Very practical, but honestly I don't know what Apple thought when they developed this feature. What do we need a password anyway if it can be reset by everyone that easily?!?! When I first saw this video I actually thought it was fake because I could not believe that Apple cared so little about security. This definitely hardens my negative opinion of the bitten apple.

My MacBook A1342 is not letting me get into recovery mode. Idk how MacBooks work but I feel like I'm doing something wrong

This doesn’t work for me. My MacBook from 2007 takes forever in the loading screen - like 15 minutes. I tried right when I heard the chime and even before I heard the chime. Nothing. Just goes on loading

Can someone help me please? I have an old MacBook Pro(I don’t know the year) and my friends moms boyfriend passed away so my friend and her mom gave me the Mac for an early birthday present and they don’t know his information (more importantly his password) and I’m trying to reset the password that way I can reset the entire MacBook like new and sign in with my information but when I held down Command R it took me back to the sleep, restart, and shut down page with either to chose his account (which contains his password and no one knows what it is) and the guest account

Thank you, for saving a trip to my tech guy! Who, btw, should have told me how easy it is to DIY, over the phone. Instead, he only said; “YES, I CAN FIX IT FOR YOU’’. Not much ‘fixing’ there, as it turns out... Hmmmmmmm... He could have just guided me over the phone - in one minute. Changing my password and changing my tech guy, right now! 🤓

I have a 2008 MacBook and have tried the power on then holding cmd+R, but everything it keeps taking me to the admin’s home screen rather than OS X utilities. Is there a reason why it could be doing this?

Mine doesn’t have utilities wtf it only has Recovery Assistan
Seems like a great method, but doesn't work on High Sierra. My machine asks for your AppleID password, which means if you don't know that you can't reset. No help.
