- The swivel knife is an essential tool to leathercrafting. When carving leather, whether you are doing floral tooling or a simple geometric pattern with a border, the swivel knife is key.
It can also be intimidating but in this video I simplify how to use it effectively.

Okay so quick question if I may ask, actually two quick question, the first one is when my dad did leather work in the 1970's, I don't think he ever sharpened his swivel knife, at that point would I need a new one since I inherited his leather tools? Second question is would you recommend a ceramic bladed swivel knife or are the metal bladed swivel knives better for leather work?
will you be able to carve on 1 oz leather? or it needs to thicker leather can you please give me some idea thanks
It would really depend on the type of leather, cheaper leathers or leathers with a texture, no that won't work. Tooling leather can but you'll need to have a light touch so you're not pushing it too far though
