Loved seeing Brian May top the list. He's not merely one of the greatest rock guitarists/composers of all time and a doctor of astrophysics. He's also an authority and published author of 3D stereoscopic photography, the founder of the Save Me Trust, which is a non-profit organization for the protection of wildlife, the vice-president of the RSPCA, and a spokesperson and activist for animal rights for dozens of other organizations. He's not just a musical superstar - he's nailed it on every possible level.
I worked with his partner briefly and got to meet him, he is also kind, generous and gracious, a truly brilliant person

No mention of Weird Al!? For shame. Valedictorian of his high school at 16. Went to Cal Poly with a degree in architecture. Musical prowess like no other.
Not to mention the fact he once applied for a job at McDonald's and was not hired because they said he was overqualified.

I’m surprised they missed David Duchovny. He did his undergrad at Princeton and got his Masters at Yale. He completed his dissertation for his PhD at Yale before his acting career took off. He didn’t go back, but still pretty remarkable.
Idk who this is but when you say he “completed his dissertation for his PhD” do you mean he got the PhD? People usually defend their dissertation before finishing it and formally submitting it.

Few of the greats never went as well. Stanley Kubrick, Christopher Nolan and even Steven Spielberg. Who tried to get into film school to only get rejected.
@@TallicaMan1986 actually, Spielberg did attend film school, but he dropped out and then went back to finish his degree after already winning several Oscars. He had long been friends with fellow classmates Martin Scorcese, Brian DePalma, Francis Ford Coppola, and George Lucas.
Then the was this guy Kubrick who had the IQ of around 200.
He studied filmmaking by watching film. He didn't copy paste scenes from old movies to his own, he's just paying tribute and homage to that film

Hedley Lamar one of Hollywood's first great beauty queens, developed technology in world war 2 that now forms the basis of wifi, cell phones, blue tooth... woman basically helped invent the 21st century
She would have won a Nobel Prize if she had been a man.
She co-invented the 'concept', but not the 'operation or function' of WiFi or frequency hopping, since her mechanical-electro invention was never aptly demonstrated although a patent for it exists (Patents do not need to be proven by the way). It took the development of binary computing (thank you Dr. von Neumann) and micro-electronics for frequency hopping to become a viable functioning reality. Hedy rightfully deserves c-credit for the concept however!

Rowan Atkinson in Blackadder is absolutely brilliant. It is frustrating that he is best known for Mr. Bean as his acting abilities are way beyond that character.

Brian May is one of my all time heroes. Not only is he a genius in many subjects, he is also a life long campaigner against animal cruelty. In addition, he is one of the nicest people on the planet. As a Brit, I’m hugely proud of the British representation in this list! ❤️🇬🇧

Rowen and Sacha Baron Cohen are both very intelligent. If you watch them out of character, they come across as scholars. Ironic that they both did so well playing silly characters. Rowen slowed down playing Mr. Bean because he wanted to play more who he was in real life. Regardless, they both seem really nice, so glad they did so well with such entertaining characters.
I agree with you 100%, it's amazing to watch both of them in interviews because they're polar opposites of the naive characters characters they play

Speaking of Sacha Baron Cohen, he's been lucky this year with two Oscar nods in his belt with an Oscar nod for Best Adapted Screenplay for Borat Subsequent Film and Best Supporting Actor for Aaron Sorkin's The Trial of the Chicago 7.
Dude you can tell Sacha is a genius, in his Borat movies he thinks quickly and makes perfect jokes that even I barely notice on my second time watching, it’s insane and interesting

And in a sense, Stephen Fry is more known for his intelligence now than his comedy. With hosting QI being his main gig for quite some years as opposed to the sketch comedy and acting he started doing, he's now sort of the go-to knowledgable celebrity.
Mayam Bialik was going to school st UCLA when my daughter was earning her psychology degree there. Mayam was frequently found studying and doing research in the library according to my daughter. Undoubtedly Mayam is intelligent, smart, talented and possesses a myriad of other admirable qualities

As a music teacher and guitarist who teaches History of Rock n' Roll, I was grinning at #1--May also pioneered an electric guitar tone with perfectly boosted mid range and judiciously applied distortion that could make his instrument sound like a flute or a human voice, allowing his solos to sing like no other rock guitarist.

I think most members of Monty Python are pretty smart. Michael Palin and Terry Jones met at Oxford University. John Clease and Graham Chapman met at Cambridge University. Eric Idle also studied at Cambridge but started a year later.

I think intelligent celebrities are a dime a dozen in Britain. It turns out the band with the most education (it’s not Queen!) is called Henry Cow out of Cambridge University in the late 60’s. They were an experimental rock band and the degreed members were aplenty. More so than any other band to date. And that reflected in the music they created and produced.

GZA from the Wu-Tang Clan studied quantum physics and has worked with MIT and NYU physicists to find any inaccuracies in the science. David Banner has a degree with honors in Business and then went on to get his Master's in Education.

I'm sure some of these people are legitmately smart, but I no longer think much of a Harvard education or Stanford or any of the other colleges now that we all know you can buy your way in. So the best you can say about a harvard grad now is that they have money.

I always thought it was hard to really quantify someone’s intelligence in comparison to another person. There’s just so many different types of intelligence but it’s good to know now the only thing you need to have in order to be ” smart” is acceptance to Harvard

There are so many more who have not been mentioned. One I find interesting is Kris Kristofferson, who was a Oxford "Rhodes Scolar". That's impressive.
Most actors, song writers and successful writers in general, would by definition, be extremely intelligent. Not necessarily academic.
Kristofferson hasn’t been in the news recently so unless you’re familiar with him from his singing, songwriting days it is easy to not know him. I think his wife used to sing duets with him. Her first name is Rita.

This Kate Beckinsale graduated Oxford and is crazy fluent in Russian. Natalie Portman's first language is Hebrew so not such an accomplishment that she's fluent.

This was VERY entertaining! I had no idea about several of these celebrities. Danica Mckellar could have been higher, in my opinion. But, I am thrilled that Brian May is number one! When Queen were in their heyday, I knew that all four members had master's degrees. And, for him to complete his PhD, after Queen was done, and work with NASA on the mission to Mars is fantastic!
What about James Franco? The man was able to balance years of school and acting, while getting near perfect grades. He also directs and teaches poetry and filmmaking.

All the way through I kept waiting for Brian May's name. I knew he had to be in the top three at least! I might have added Neil Peart to the list somewhere as well.
Dolph Lundgren is a genius and a really inspiring person, he did really well for himself considering he was being subjected to abuse by physical violence by his father from a young age and thru his upbringing. He has a good TED talk about that. Even with all his demons he was carrrying around he managed to rise above education wise and then become one of the classic 80s crew of action movie stars.

The 1940's film siren became a pioneer in the field of wireless communications following her emigration to the United States. The international beauty icon, along with co-inventor George Anthiel, developed a "Secret Communications System" to help combat the Nazis in World War II. By manipulating radio frequencies at irregular intervals between transmission and reception, the invention formed an unbreakable code to prevent classified messages from being intercepted by enemy personnel.
Lamarr and Anthiel received a patent in 1941, but the enormous significance of their invention was not realized until decades later. It was first implemented on naval ships during the Cuban Missile Crisis and subsequently emerged in numerous military applications. But most importantly, the "spread spectrum" technology that Lamarr helped to invent would galvanize the digital communications boom, forming the technical backbone that makes cellular phones, fax machines, and other wireless operations possible.

Being in Mensa means little. If I recall correctly, you only need have an IQ of 130 to be invited. And IQ tests are basically meaningless anyway.
Not saying James Woods isn't smart, though. Just that Mensa is stupid. I was inivted in, went to one meeting & was not impressed, never went back.
Shakira is so smart she told the judge she was living in Bahamas while her husband and children lived in Barcelona, just to evade paying taxes in Spain. Surprisingly, it didn´t work.

I remember Emma Watson saying that as soon as she came away from the Harry Potter film series she was keen to wear her hair short, as this was something she had always meant to do but with living at home then getting the part in the HP movies everything just seemed to overlap.
