- Tony, Newt, And Justin review DREDD. In this Podcas /Movie Review they will talk about the things that make this movie Dredd 2012, or Dredd 3D as it was also known, Awesome! From the incredible action, great visual effects, and and how it adapted the comics in away that was unique but also faithful.
Mega City One is a vast, violent metropolis where felons rule the streets. The only law lies with cops called "judges," who act as judge, jury and executioner, and Dredd (Karl Urban) is one of the city's most feared. One day, Dredd is partnered with Cassandra (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities. A report of a terrible crime sends Dredd and Cassandra to a dangerous area controlled by Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), a drug lord who will stop at nothing to protect her empire.

Did you see 👀 new Suiside Squad yet ? You need to, it's really good 👍, I give it a 9.9 out of 10.

It's cute that you played Justin's little pokemon game with him.
Side story, my uncle was an artist on a bunch of comic books during the 80's to the early 2000s. And one of the comic books he worked on was Judge Dredd. During the making of the Stallone Judge Dredd, everyone working on the comic was allowed to visit the set and meet some of the cast. My uncle was able to shake hands and talk with Stallone. And even was invited to the premier and was only a few rows back from the cast!! Probably the closest my uncle was to being a celebrity.
What's his surname?

Awesome!!! I wished I would be nearby Rocky 😁🤓👍
That’s sick
To me anyone working on comics or animation should be celebrities
Tony: Games are for kids
Also Tony: wears Mortal Kombat shirt
That's the joke.
@@emanuelespinoza9325 One that's running it's course
The shirt is based off the hit movie Mortal Kombat, not a video game. Video games are for kids.
@@antzwids mans talked about assassins creed and doom multiple times. It’s run it’s course
To be fair Tony is half a clown
I remember seeing Judge Dredd in theaters and seeing Dredd in 3D. I enjoy both for different reasons, but Dredd was better IMO, with Judge Dredd i kept thinking "well, this is the closest thing to a demolition man sequel we'll get, not a good sequel but an ok 1".
The opening to Dredd always gives me chills.
It was like the opening to 2020.
In Hack the Movies, Tony is the Law
This is such an Underrated and underappreciated film. I wanted to see it when it came out, but it didnt do well enough for our theatre to get it. I do hope we get Mega City One so Karl Urban can come back. You guys are awesome 👍👍👍
It’s true. I especially love the use of slow motion effects in the action scenes through the plot device of the “slow mo” which enabled the director to present sequences with a look straight out of the panels of a 2000AD comic book. Incidentally the cinematographer on “Dredd” was Anthony Dod Mantle of “28 Days Later” another filmed that employed high frame rate for creative effect
you're churning out the reviews! keep it up guys. gonna get me somethin to drink on and binge these later. love from ireland.

Honestly my favorite part of this movie is the fact it feels like a fan film with an actual budget
The gun that Rambo shot in the back of the truck is a M2 .50 cal, it’s not a mini gun.
The Rookie seems cool.
More episodes with the Rookie!
Oh man I’ve been on a dredd kick for the last 3 months I’m so happy you are doing this. I saw this movie about 4 months ago and it got me into the comics, board game and video game.

Let's not forget...MAMA is not the law! I AM THE LAW!
Newt picked up Justin's glasses... and something about that little act just shows how truly good of a friend he probably is.
You guys need to review the 1987 Masters of the Universe. Especially with all of the uproar from Kevin Smith's new MOTU Revelation.
According to Kieran on the Commando Rental reviews episode Master of the Universe was reviewed but never showed?? I guess 🤔
This movie absolutely needs a sequel
I enjoyed this one I liked the 95 one but as an adult I’m like this movie blows but dredd is great
WOOOOOOOOOOOW! You can tell the second Justin is annoyed by Tony talking over him .
NEWT classy as always ! :D
Who’s this Justin guy talking about Pokémon? He doesn’t seem nearly as famous as Tony.
I love that bit. Congrats Newt.
You know who would look great in a helmet…Alien 3!!!
Don't forget "Gary Busey: Pet Judge"
Lmfao Judge Mint Salad 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Also loved loved Dredd when it came out and still holds up. Can't believe it's been 10 years. Cool that you guys reviewed this one and seeing Justin have so much love for it was Awesome as well!
Dream Team = Tony, Newt and Johanna. Make that happen more often!
You should have ended the pokemon skit with Tony quietly taking the pokemon flashcards and lighting them on fire and dropping them into an empty metal garbage can.
I did like a quick retrospective video on Dredd a while back. One of the best films of the last 20 years tbh.
Please tell me one of you saw Dredd in 3D in theaters. It's the best 3D movie ever made.
I saw it twice in theaters in 3d, loved it so much it made me consider buying a 3d tv just for this movie, unfortunately the tvs where super expensive at the time and I never bought one.
Well tied with Piranha 3D of course
Yes...get in there !
This film was absolutely brilliant and even more so in 3d it had incredible visuals especially the slowmo scenes I've watched both versions and 3d really does add to the movie experience shame it didn't make that box office $ as a sequel could have been great
I loved this movie. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to see the 3-D version. I've been a fan of Carl Urban since his "Xena and Hercules" days.
I do wish we could've explored the city a little bit more though.
i watched the 3D version in theaters ! i'm a BIG fan of the slow-motion scenes in 3D !!!
Karl Urban is pretty close to being tied with Lucy Lawless(she had more) on playing the most characters in Xena/Hercules continuity. Dredd was great in 3D, definitely worth the extra money for 3D
Wait. I only remember him as cupid. Who else did he play in Xena/Hercules
@@chucks9573 Caesar.
@@chucks9573 Cupid, Caesar, Kor and Mael.
Thanks for this guys. Just 32 minutes into the Episode and i just can't fight the urge for watching Dredd again!!!
I actually want to hear about the kumail fight story
Best part is the first ten minutes of these dudes complaining nobody watches their videos while they spend the first ten minutes of a dredd video talking about Pokemon
Simon Bisley is one of the best artists to ever work in comics. The man is a legend. Also did a lot of Lobo's graphic novels, before they completely changed it
Crystal, Erin, Johanna, and Tricia are holding Newt hostage in the Hack the Movies store. And it's up to Judge Tony and Judge Justin to save him. Sadly, they only have one BFG to share. "THEY ARE THE LAW!"
If Newt was being held hostage by four women, he wouldn't want to be rescued.
15:51 foreshadowing
Newt you already did the comic book guy gag 😅 another great episode guys, thanks.
we shoot these super out of order. so hard to remember whats said when
That pokemon bit was awesome!
The best part of the Stallone Judge Dredd was White Zombie's Super Charger Heaven on the soundtrack.
I love this movie they should have made a part 2
Y'all should review "the people under the stairs".
lol, I just got the bluray from Amazon. Great taste.
Love this film. Similar to The Raid.
LAW

"LAAAAAAWW!"
@@wstine79 I AM THE LAW
Loved this movie! Thanks SO MUCH for this review, especially the mention of the animated Dredd by Adi Shankar. Just watched it on CZcams & it's awesome!
In Mega City One sugar and caffeine are illegal, never mind narcotics lol
I never saw Dredd. After watching this, I think I'll go ahead and watch it.
“Drug bust…perps were uncooperative”
That was the best. For Anderson, it was the most epic day she's ever had. For Dredd, it was just _Wednesday._
Tony DO NOT WATCH THE SUICIDE SQUAD. You will NOT like the ending....😂🤯
Heck yeah dude it's a Justin episode
Jet, a drug which first appeared in 1998's Fallout 2, was inspired by 2012's Dredd and thus appeared in Fallout 4.
Ok.
Video games are for children so I wasn't able to fact check that
@@HackTheMovies all of your interests are for children, that doesn't stop you from making 90 minute plus videos about them.
Filmed in South Africa yay!!.
Do they know the 2000 AD story SHOK that inspired the movie Hardware?
Dark Judges' Death, Fire, Fear and Mortis are from a planet from another dimension called Dead World. The Fall of Dead World graphic novel that collects the stories from 2000AD about the world The Dark Judges comes from is awesome and highly recommended!
I hope Kieran just means the effects they chose to represent it, because Jet was made up for Fallout 2 in 1998.
Dredd was based on Dirty Harry, and Plissken in turn was indeed based on Dredd, at least in his manner and the way he talks.
Justin can start his own show if he wants all the credit.
@@MP-vd1ck yes. He can do all he wants there. He can even shill that channel here. But when he starts going off about this channel is his idea and stuff, I tend to click to something else. Tony is doing the work.
The gun mounted in the back of the jeep in Rambo was NOT a minigun. That was a Browning M2--also known as the "Ma Deuce".
The only thing that could have made the movie better is if Anthrax I Am The Law played at some point in the movie.
I'm glad Loyce Ropez turned me on to you.
They should have made a sequel to this movie. So much potential.
wow the team is back
I like how when Batman was in the 2000AD universe Dredd immediately restrained and arrested him.
A Paul verhoeven directed 1995 dredd film starring Schwarzenegger (who was the initail choice but turned it down) would have been class!
Legit one of my favorite movies and it wasn’t even directed by Spielsberg.
The pokemon game was pretty fun. Good one, Justin
Most Underrated movie ever
LoL justin had ZERO right to call out newts names we all heard him say "Spielsberg" 😝
Ok I've watched all the Hack the movies episodes, I'm gonna watch all of Rental Reviews episodes now!
Wait you started with this show first?!
@@HackTheMovies Oh no I saw Rental Reviews but not all of them. Big fan guys! Keep up the great content :)
Thank you Hack The Movies for teaching me about Boober today!
Now I really want a Boober t-shirt
Loooooved this movie and only saw it on a friend's insistence to watch it when I visited, glad I did. I actually know how this version of the Lawgiver works. That bulge at the bottom near the muzzle is actually a second, smaller magazine for the adaptive rounds.
If either of you want to shoot Justin and burn his pokemon, you have my full support
I know right? I swear, Pokemon comes up at least once in EVERY review Justin's in these days. I'll admit that my brain is probably exaggerating things, but that's what it feels like.
Jason Brashill and Jim Murray did the artwork for Spaced.
Oof that plagiarism joke hits a bit different now :/
One correction : it's Avon, not Antoine, Barksdale in The Wire
Harbinger in 2024 I think is a dead comic book franshise from the 90s that been repainted twice in Comic books will now get a movie at parmount and I’m excited
Great Movie, Great Episode. The 2000AD documentary is highly recommended. You should review Hardware (1990) considered now the 1st 2000AD movie.
The Raid and Dredd are both incredible movies for different reasons. It's unfair to call one a rip off of the other just cuz they came out around the same time. The Raid didn't create the concept of having a movie take place in one building
Mini guns are terrifying!
I love how they don't talk about the movie for half the run time.
Not a fan of the Stallone movie, but am a huge fan of the reboot. I saw Dredd 3D in theaters in 3D, and absolutely loved it. It's such an excellent throw back to '80s action movies. It reminds me of a cross between Diehard and Robocop. I actually think that Dredd 3D is the best comic book movie to come out in the last 15 years.
It's not a reboot. It's just another movie.
I remember seeing this movie in theaters, in 3D, too! I am so glad that I got to experience it that way. It was such a major flop (financially) but it was a great film.
Can we re-do this episode with just Newt and Justin?
Justin was right, I loved the bit.
i like the justin silverman tony from hack the movies romance that seems to be blooming
Tax avoision is real, newt is smarter than everyone there. Newt for president.
I'd argue that hitting them with Slo-Mo before dropping them off the building would be a blessing of sorts. They would never register hitting the ground in their brains. They would be dead on the ground before they could possibly know it. They might only perceive half the fall at best.
That's not how perception works, man.
I actually would like to see a review of Detective Pikachu 😂😂
Over the last couple years I've grown to really like Justin
Whole entire time Justin looks like he's in pain while internally he is hearing "Hello Darkness My Old Friend."
Justin:😐😐😐😑😑😑😑
Newt:😅😁🤣🤣🤣
Tony:😁😁🤪🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣
He talks and laughs, but he is very funny when he impersonate one of the judges.
Now, when are you going to review The Shadow?
The reason it's called a minigun is because it fires rifle caliber cartridges instead of 20mm auto cannon rounds. They are used mostly on helicopters or LAVs.. They don't have any handheld versions as in Predator as the lighest version is around 45lbs sans ammunition, electric motor, and power supply. Willy Pete "White Phosphorus" was used mainly in WWII to Vietnam, but is still used mainly for spotting purposes. Hollowpoint ammunition is also "outlawed" by the Geneva Convention, but API is not. US police use hollowpoint ammunition, I use FMJ or "Ball" for target practice, and HP or Glazier type for EDC depending on the environment.
Jett is inspired by Judge Dredd?
I'm pretty sure Jett is in the first two Fallout games.
Not the first one, but still...
And Dredd was a character that debuted in 1977 way before fallout existed
I like to think the intern is the only one getting paid, and everyone else is just there to chill/talk about tapes for free
Great movie.
If Robocop and Dirty Harry had a baby, you’d have Dredd. As much as I’d love to see a sequel/series, I just think it’d get ruined eventually judging by how Hollywood is ruining every other project in the last decade.
Robocop was heavily influenced by Judge Dredd.
@@HappyCynic I’m talking about the movie, however true
I think it's simple - we NEED Karl Urban back as Judge Dredd.
A sequel, a prequel, a mini-series, whatever, we NEED him back as Dredd.
Imagine Judge Dredd, still with helmet on, standing at the entrance to Bifrost, the fabled rainbow bridge of Asgard, telling women in his gravelly voice to behold his stuff, then proceeding to demonstrate a Shake Weight to them.
You're welcome ;)
“BEHOLD!…my stuff.”
Uh.......
A Judge Dredd Game would be a Hit! Can’t believe it hasn’t been made
